Title: Sneak Peek!
Description: A look at the final design!
Pointy-Eared Git - February 27, 2006 11:48 AM (GMT)
Ok, Ive been stepping up the look of the list to look like a propper armybook, rather than just an army list, if you get what I mean. Ive taken screenshots of six of the pages so far just so you guys can get an idea of how its looking. At the moment the borders are just plain grey boxes, but Im hoping to replace them with ones similar (if not almost exactly like) to those in the O&G book. Some of the details look a bit pixelated/blurred, but thats only because theyre screenshots taken whilst in print-preview, I assure you that everything is nice and smooth close up.

So, what do you think?

Excellent Arfa!
It almost look like one of the GW books in my oppinion(when you have the borders im sure it will look like one of them). I even see you have added one of the fluff pieces i made up today in the middle.
Chris
PS: Should i write some more fluff(i writed something some minutes ago)?
Red Skullz - February 27, 2006 12:04 PM (GMT)
WOW!!
This is gonna be so cool, that sneaky peeky has given me a BIG burst of motivation :D
Thanks for sharing Arfa!

The three 'fluff boxes' shown have been filled with the three fluff stories you've posted today Chris, feel proud! :D
The idea is to get it looking like a propper GW book, if you're going to do something you might as well do it right after all!

Thanks.
I have also maked some "Extremely Small Stories" some minutes ago.
Should i write anything more?
Chris
Pointy-Eared Git - February 27, 2006 01:28 PM (GMT)
Yep, keep em coming! The original three are probably the ideal size, but dont rush anything if you dont want to. Im about to head off to bed (tis past midnight here) so I wont be doing any more till after I get back from work tomorrow evening. But yes, the more the merrier indeed, as even if we dont use them in the book I know Zorg is after similar pieces to throw through this issue of DWQ.
oh, and I need a slightly larger (about another third larger than the grogshop piece) one to shove in a big gap I have. Cheers again!

I will make some more, about two or three right now. Perhaps something more later on.

'All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy.'
No not really, its just random gibberish in that photo, although its been replaced with one of your stories now. When I took the screenshots I hadnt added it in yet.
Oh, and yeah keep the fluff piling in, dont stop boy!
(thanks for the cookie btw WGG)

The layout looks very snazzy and nice indeed.
Keep up the fluff stuff too because as Arfa said any not used in the book would be great in the magazine.
Speaking of which we still need articles. :P
I'm sorta getting woried now.

Hey guys, new update!
Ive just finished all the unit pages, and will get started on the 'Looted Stuff' tomorrow. Ive been a but busy with work all week but I should get some time to speed up the pace next week, and this will be done in no-time at all! :D

Ive tried to make it as close to a GW list as possible, Im sure Kurgan will be so pleased when he gets back from his little holiday, wherever he may be...

Fantastic work Arfa (and congrats on your Redness too!)
I'll be back up to full steam on Monday morning - I'm at home on dial-up at the moment. Yuk.
:D
Zorg_orc_warboss - March 3, 2006 09:27 PM (GMT)
Guys I have to say.
This has exceeded my wildest dreams of the project. What we have here is ledgendary. Lets finish it off!
WhiteLionKurgan - March 4, 2006 09:23 AM (GMT)
I've had a thought though. Arfa, you may be making the book look too good!
We have to very careful to stay within GW's "Dos and Don'ts" guidelines and not make it look like an official GW publication.
Can I suggest not using the boarders from the O&G book but using something a that is made by us on Da 'Path? Sumicus would love to do somthing I'm sure.
I'll ask him if you want. :D
Pointy-Eared Git - March 4, 2006 09:44 AM (GMT)
That was the original idea, Red PMd him and he's making them as we speak.
Everything is original as far as graphics and the lot is concerned, and anything with full statlines posted requires the Orc & Goblin armybook for special rules etc, just like the greatuncleanone.com, so its all legal. Trust me, I want this book to exist legally, Ive put that much work into it its not funny!
Oh, and the fact that its got a big disclamer stating that it is an unoficial product and that all trademarks belong to GW yadda yadda, and that it will have 'Unoficial' plastered across the cover, will probably help :P.
Arfa da Grate
Pointy-Eared Git - March 4, 2006 10:19 AM (GMT)
Ok, leaving the borders as is so as to make sure we dont get done by (removed) legal issues (removed sentence), and making the disclaimer bigger and 'official' (yes GW have an official disclaimer to use, go figure).
Sorry, this has just capped off a sh*t day (again). Been a pretty cr@p weekend all round I guess.
The book will continue as normal now, we just need to make sure not to cross the line. The GW rule states that:
QUOTE ("GW Legal Monkeys")
Please make it clear that your use is unofficial by including some wording to the effect that, for example, "This website is completely unofficial and in no way endorsed by Games Workshop Limited." Are people likely to be confused as to whether your web site or any material was produced by Games Workshop just by looking at it? If so, then you need to alter it. In other words, do not try to make your material look "official."
&
QUOTE ("more GW Legal Monkeys")
Please make the origins of the intellectual property very clear, in other words, make sure that from a brief review of your material people know that you are unofficially using Games Workshop's intellectual property (and not your own IP or the IP of a third party).
So, if there is no confusion (such as keeping the borders like they are now, coupled with the big f*ck-off disclaimer), we're in the green and everything is all good. Oh, and if youre going to print this, do it on a home computer. If you use an Internet Cafe/Library/Proffesional Printer's computers to print you are breaking the law according to GW <_< .
Sorry if I seem p*ssed off, its because I am.
edited out rather, ahem, 'rash' comments relating to Games Workshop.

Pointy-Eared Git - March 5, 2006 07:05 AM (GMT)
Okey dokey, you can continue to make those borders anyway Sumicus, they could still prove usefull for prettifying the list.
At the moment I have solved the legal problems by the border stating 'DA WARPATH UNOFFICIAL ARMY LISTS (gap) *Whatever section of the book this is (i.e, Looted Stuff)* so that noone could mistake this for an official list, as it says on every single page that it is unofficial :P.
Oh by the way, Im doing the army list at the moment (finished the magic items, although three items still need fluff, see 'Needed ASAP'), and it looks sweeeeet. I'll give a sneak peek later on once Ive done a few more pages, but its also a fair bit faster than the others as its just copying and pasting the 'master copy' of text boxes and images and then editing the text to the specific unit, which doesnt take long at all!
Arfa da Grate
Pointy-Eared Git - March 6, 2006 04:58 AM (GMT)
Ok, sorry guys, but Ive decided that the list looks too darn good to show any more sneak peeks! The zoomed-out photos just dont do it justice, so Im affraid you'll have to wait just over a week and it will be done. Thats right, done, finished, over, fin.
Although the list wont be available for public review till the release of DWQ, Im sure we can treat ourselves to an early copy :).
That said, this deadline can only be reached if people get stuff in, so basically people the sooner you get the stuff in the ASAP thread (funny how its named 'As Soon As Possible' ^_^) the sooner we all get the list!
Im sending out PMs to all the master modellers to give a brief overview of how they constructed and painted their masterpieces, and once that is collected and put into a file (a days work for me) and the special characters, special units and rare units (which should be done thisarvo!), Im done! Contents and cover take no time (althought we will kinda need the cover pic to actually do the cover :P).
Anyway, I hope this information has inspired you, as I for one cant wait to see the final copy PDFed and in circulation!
edit- Holy smeg, quadruple posting! Sorry guys, dont eat me for it! :P

WhiteLionKurgan - March 6, 2006 08:53 AM (GMT)
Arfa, thanks for all the blood-sweat-and-tears that you've put into this. I completely understand your frustration with GW, but rules is rules ;)
I can't wait to see the finished list - I was so impressed with the sneak-peaks! :o :D
I'm sure no-one will eat you! B)
Warlord Ghazak Gazhkull - March 6, 2006 09:47 PM (GMT)
Do we need to wait for this list :( , I'm getting to excited about it. The sneak peaks looked already awesome so the final result will be even better :) .
And are you have done a great job on this I find this deserves some appritition(grammar?).
Throws whole box of cookies to arfa.
