Got your PM.

I don't know if I can post a PDF on the site?
It's 249KB and about 20-something pages long!

Kurbog - December 16, 2005 09:41 AM (GMT)
I like it at the moment. Not too overloaded with rules, but not as underdeveloped as High Elves, either.
Also, I'm quite pleased that a couple of my magic items made it in. :D
Perhaps when it's done we should send it in to GW for Warhammer Chronicles?

Red Skullz - December 16, 2005 09:47 AM (GMT)
I`m thinking about building a 500 pts army first, but I`ll sure as h#ll playtest a 2000 pts battle :D

What are the points cost for the different things? The reason i ask are that many of the units/characters have addition special rules but the points costs arent there.

Chris

WhiteLionKurgan - December 16, 2005 12:33 PM (GMT)
Most (most!) of the units that don't have points values are listed as being the same as an entry in the O&G book with a few execptions. So the points for those are the same as in the book (most of the special rules have almost equal positive and negative effects so balance out themselves!)

There are a couple of missing points values in Magic Items, etc. which will have to be tidied up. <_<

The play-test list isn't supposed to be a replacement for an army book, so you have to use both together. I thought that at 23 pages already there was no need to try and reproduce pages and pages of extra (copyrighted!) material. Especially since you guys all own the O&G book! :D

But the Gunna-bosses, Goblin Merchants and Brewa-bosses have special rules who only have positive effects(and perhaps some other units/characters).

supa cool man! i will try to do a little piecie of how to paint you're pirates :D

ow and kurgan, where are the gunna'boyz? we need them!

WhiteLionKurgan - December 16, 2005 12:43 PM (GMT)
Very true.
What do you think their special rules should cost?
Should there just be some negative rules to balance them a bit?

This is the kind of feed-back we need! :D All this sort of stuff has to be sorted before it can be turned into a DWQ article. ^_^

I think that the Merchants should have 25(now as i thinked about it awhile it think it should be 15+ instead)+ points(with the bodyguards with 1+ each), the brewa-bosses 15-20+ points and the Gunna-bosses 15+ points. Also that the Bombas have Bombas automaticly.

Chris

WhiteLionKurgan - December 16, 2005 12:59 PM (GMT)
No one will use Bombaz without adding Bombz (or they will be waisting a Special Choice!  ) so I think it doesn't matter that they are an upgrade. :)

Your extra points for Merchants, etc, seem a bit high to me. What does everyone else think? Maybe Emoe's right, we should run all the characters through Goofy's system.

For the Merchants are 15+(perhaps it should be 10?) for Bribe and 10+ for Merchant(now as i think about it 15+ for the merchant sounds better), the Gunna-boss are 5+ for extra krew and 10+ for master of shooting stuff, brewa bosses are 5+ for Have some of this beer and 5-10+ for you arent getting my beer. That was what i thought when i saw the rules.

Chris

EDIT: I also think that Gunna-bosses should have 1+ BS for 5+ additional points.

WhiteLionKurgan - December 16, 2005 01:10 PM (GMT)
Hmmm. When you break it down like that they sound spot-on! :D

Okay. You got me convinced!

emoe - December 16, 2005 01:51 PM (GMT)
kurg, were are the common gunna boys? if only the half of the boys can have a gun....its weird

fels

WhiteLionKurgan - December 16, 2005 01:54 PM (GMT)
I didn't see the point in adding "Arrer Boys with guns" when the Deck Handz had access to them. No fluff had been written for them either, so I thought no-one would miss them. <_<

Do you really want more than half your Pirates to have Handguns?
All the Kabin Grots can have them! :D

Red Skullz - December 16, 2005 02:34 PM (GMT)
Have you sent the list to my email Kurgan?? Haven`t received anything yet :(

WhiteLionKurgan - December 16, 2005 03:44 PM (GMT)
I did. I sent them all as one e-mail with lots of BCC'd recipients.

I've sent it again though just in case. :)

I love the tale of da Big Red Hulk and Morky Jonez

Chris - December 17, 2005 08:28 PM (GMT)
Playtest game 1:

500 points pitched battle:

My ladz: A bunch of drunken bastards.

1 Kommodore with additional choppa, light armour and the teef of kap`n fengur. He also had Bloody Meed.

20 Deckhands with Boss and Standard Bearer. They also had Morky Jonez` Magical Brew.

20 Kabin Grotz with Full Command. They also had Bloody Meed.

1 Looted Great Cannon with Bully.

The `Umie Gitz:

1 Captain with Barded Warhorse, Enchanted Shield and Dawn Armour.

10 Swordsmen with Full Command.

10 Free Companies with Light Armour and Champion.

5 Huntsmen with Champion.

3 Oge Bulls with Ironfists, Light Armour and Champion.

Deployment:

The terrain was completely flat.

Left to right from my view(Pirate Orcs):

My deployment sone:

Huntsmen
Deckhands.
Kommodore.
Great Cannon.
Kabin Grotz.

Errm... my deployment sone(played against myself):

Free Companies.
Swordsmen.
Captain(Sir Robin, if you have seen Monthy Pyton and the Holy Grail you will understand).
Bulls.

Pirate Orc turn 1:

Moved all units right forward(exept cannon ofcourse)
Cannon shoot t the huntsmen, felling one(champion).

Empire turn 1:

Moved all my units towards the Pirate Orcs(even the huntsmen, my plan for the Empire was to charge the cannon with my huntsmen).

Pirate Orcs turn 2:

Charged Bulls with Kommodore, the kabin grotz flank charged, the bulls fled and was purcuied by kabin grotz.

Deckhandz charged Free Companies, slayed 4, lost 1. Free Combanies broke, Deckhands stayed. Captain fled at the sight(out of the battle) so did the Swordsmen(not out of battle).

Cannon Grapeshoots Huntsmen, slaying all.

Empire Turn 2:

All units rallies.

Pirate Orcs turn 3:

Kabin grotz tries to charge free companies(fails), Kommodore charges free companies. Deckhandz charges swordsmen, Slaying 4(i think) only loses 2. Swordsmens flees out of game.

Kommodore slays 1 free companie, loses no wounds in return. Free Companies Panics(not breaks) out of combat.

Have not calculated Victory Points(but i think it is a Massacre to the Pirate Orcs). And i dont think the result had been the same if not the humans had runned away at first sight of danger.

Set-Up

The board was covered sparesly with a couple of woods and hills. We decided to play a pitched battle seeing as we were trying to uncover the cracks in the army list.

Orc Deployment

From left to right:

My Boardin' Boyz and Kap'n Blackheart set up furthest left, lookin to shoot into the woods ahead of them with the aid of Kap'n Jacks Sparrow.

Both units of whalers set up behind the boardin boyz with the swivel gunners behind them. I was looking to attack both of his flanks, exploiting my larger numbers.

To add some extra punch my giant set up with the four skirmishing units.

In the middle I set up both of my units of Deck Handz and Trolls. The unit with additional hand weapons was accompanied by my general. My shaman set up inbetween the deck handz with the trolls whilst by BSB set up to the left of my additional HW unit so the skirmishers could use the re-rolls aswell. My cannon set up inbetween the two main bodies of troops, making sure anyone closing them down wouldn't do so unchecked.

My shaman rolled up Gaze of Mork and Hand of Gork

LizardMen Deployment

His forces set up in the middle of the table, seperated by a small forest. His main unit of saurus set up on the (My) right of the forest along with a unit of skinks who protected their flank. Behind these skinks one unit of kroxigors set up.

On my left of the forest his two units of saurus set up, a unit of skinks again protecting their flank. The other unit of kroxigor set up behind these. On his left flank he set up his unit of cold ones accompanied by his scar veteran.

His jungles swarms set up of his far right flank. Both of his skink priests set up in the woods seperating his forces. the lvl one skink rolled (You guessed it) Comet of Cassandora. Thankfully he decided to swap it for second sign. His level two priest rolled up the comet and forked lightening.

The Battle

As planned my skirmishing Orcs moved up the flank, the whalers and swivel gunners making the woods whilst the boardin boyz who had already got there with the help of capn jacks sparrow bounded into the open ground. My giant managed to keep his feet as he entered the difficult terrain.

My Unit with some Good ole Grog managed to roll nothing and were left slightly tipsy. My unit with the general moved up the field as did the BSB, making sure they where still able to give the help of their leadership and re-rolls to the skirmishing units. My trolls moved up with them as did my shaman.

Mt shaman cast Hand of Gork on my boardin Boyz and pushed them into combat with the skinks shielding the kroxigors and the flank.

My cannon took a shot at the cold ones, bringing two of them down. They passed their panic. My boyz with handguns shot at the unit of twenty saurus. Five hit and two wounded and killed. One boy blew himself up.

My boardin boyz crashed mercilessly into the skinks, bringing down eleven. Blackheart sent another four to morky jonez locker for no casualties back. the skinks fled and where run down, the boarding boyz running frenziedly into the kroxigors who waited behind.

The lizardmen advanced at full speed, both unit of 16 saurus turning to face the threat to their flank whilst the jungle swarms counter charged the boardin boyz. The skinks, saurus and kroxigor on the right along with his cold ones advanced as fast as possible towards by main bodie of boyz.

His shaman cast forked lightening on my generals unit, which I dispelled on a 9. He then tried to cast comet but miscast it and rolled a 4, which meant I got to cast one og my own spells the same casting value or less. I pushed my swivel gunners 6 inches up the field.

My boardin boyz and blackheart attacked the kroxigors, bringing down two. The jungle swarms killed a boy whilst the boyz on the flank killed off one of the jungle swarms. The remaining kroxigor also killed a boy. The kroxigor fled 9 whilst the unbreakable swarms held. I wrapped my unti around them.

More later...

Krusty - December 21, 2005 12:27 AM (GMT)
My giant charged the nearest saurus unit who passed their terror test, as did the other unit within six inches. My Generals unit now stopped its advanced and wheeled slightly to face the oncoming threat of the lizardmen generals unit and his assorted gribblies. My main unit again stayed put regardless of the impending saurus cavalry. Both units of whalers stared down the only available saurus unit approaching, positioning themsleves for some harpoon death. The swivel gunners also got ready to wreak havoc.

My shaman tried to cast hand of Gork on my generals unit but miscast with three ones! He duly became a level one wizard and could only cast gaze of mork from now on...

Shooting phase. I was that eager to test out the swivel gunners and whalers that I nealy forgot my cannon. I again aimed at the cold ones, this time guessing a bit short but the bounce managed to take down one of the beasts. Both units of whalers focused their fire on the saurus unit. They managed to bring down eight of the warriors, taking the unit to half strength.

Now for the bit I had really being looking forward too. The swivel guns... They where going to fire at the second unit of saurus. FIFTY SIX SHOTS!!!! two misfired, both blowing themsleves up. Enough shot was fired to kill eleven of the saurus, but there were only eight left anyway! My stationary unit of Boyz fired their looted gunz at the genrals saurus unit again. Two saurus were killed and again one of my boyz overloaded his gun and killed himself, much to the amusement of those around.

Onto combat. My unit of Boardin boyz attacked the jungle swarms, wiping them out completely. Laying about them with his club the giant managed to kill five. The saurus managed to do nothing back. It was a draw, and he had a musician. I passed my leadership and the fight would go on.

As expected the cold ones charged my unit of normal boyz along with the kroxigors. Theypassed their fear check and held, standing and shooting at the kroxigor, killing one. His generals unit bore down on my generals unit, and it looked as though I would be getting the charge. Even though he did have spears I was confident I could kill enough to make that fact void. he also darted his skinks towards me to pepper me with darts.

He cast second sign with irresitable force, giving him two re-rolls. He then cast comet and miscast again, but used a re-roll and managed to cast it instead! I promptly used a dispell scroll to nullify it.

His skinks opened fire on my generals unit and six orcs fell dead.

The sauras cavalry killed a total of eight boyz. The kroxigor took down another four. The boss attacked back and managed to bring down a cold one and its rider. I ran twelve, landing on the boards edge and just outpacing the cold ones and kroxigor who both ran eleven.

to be continued...

Krusty - December 23, 2005 10:45 PM (GMT)
To start my turn off, my unit that had been broken couldn't rally (As there was an enemy unit with a unit strength greater than 5 within six inches!) and duly ran off the table...

on to other proceedings then. My general and BSB and their unit charged the saurus and my opponents general, as did my trolls. Both units of whalers charged the unit in combat with the Giant and my boardin boys and blackheart charged in their rear. The swivel gunners moved to dispatch of the skinks threatening the flank of my generals unit.

Magic and my shaman tried to cast gaze of mork. It was dispelled.

In the shooting phase my cannon turned an grapshotted the cold ones. As the smoke cleared, only the scar veteran was left! With no other shooting we moved onto combat. First, my giant and whalers Vs the saurus. The whalers brought down two whilst the giant finished off another four and the boardin boyz and blackheart finished off the rest, overunning four inches. The whalers held their ground.

My generals unit prepared to dish out the hurt as they charged into the saurus. The saurus general issued a challenge, and my first mate accepted. (I know, I know, shameful. But would you like to face off against an Oldblood who was 40 points more expensive than you?) He was duly hacked into tiny pieces, the oldblood carrying an overkill of two.

My boyz managed to bring down two saurus. It was amde up for by Krusty who cleaved apart four in one mighty blow. My BSB also brought one down. The lizardmen brought down two boyz. (Morky Jonez brew had really helped me out here). The trolls killed two and the saurus fled, being chased down by both unit. A fine day twas.

With a kroxigor and skink unit left, we decided to call it a day. I'll get the conclusion up later.

There's been a steady trickle of feed-back to the PDF and I've updated the list a fair bit.

So I'm going to e-mail the newest version (early next week - probably Monday) to everyone listed on the first post in this thread. If you're not there and want to be just PM me your e-mail address! ;)

Have Snagafang sent you his results? Seemed like he`s done a fair bit of work with it.

WhiteLionKurgan - January 6, 2006 11:47 AM (GMT)
I've been keeping a Word doc updated with all the changes so I can make a PDF whenever. Now if you want!

It just safer not to have loads of different version floating round confusing the issue! (The first PDF was "version 2.3" and the current Word doc is "v2.5". The next PDF will be "v3.0" )

No, nothing from Snagafang. It seemed like he had a fair bit to say, so I'm still waiting patiently  B)
