It's for coloring any background. Read it!
I just threw that background together real quick for the tut.

P.S.- Part 1 and Part 2 are two different methods for coloring backgrounds, so I wouldn't put both of them together.

just some sugestions...
on part 1: you don't exactly have to use overlay... soft light and many others work very well... it only depends on what's your sig and what you want... try all blending modes before chosing one...
on part 2: use more than one color balance... put each color balance over a different layer of the bg... you can also use hue/saturation checking 'colorize' to make it uniform...

Did you read step 4 on part 2? Hue/Saturation makes the sig too monotone and that's why I didn't add it. You can also color with Gradient Map which works very nicely.

Yeah... it makes it mono.. but sometimes you need that to add another layer over it and than add something like color balance and get nice results... you never uses only one colorizing mode on a nice sig...
