Title: Sliding Door
Nightmare - December 11, 2005 07:39 AM (GMT)
STEP 1:
Open the image you wish to make the effect on. I will be using this signiture which i previously made:

STEP 2:
Create a new layer on top of the previous one by pressing (ctrl + shift + n).
Next, take a smooth brush with the size '20' and create a wave-like pattern.
Mine turned out like this:

Go to filter>blur>motion blur. I applied these settings (you should pick something similar):
angle: 50
distance: 214
Press 'ctrl+f' a few times until it is dark enough to just see through it.
Now you want to colorize it (ctrl + U). Check the 'colorize button in the bottom right of the palette and make it whatever color you want.
Now on the layer panel set the Layer Style to Overlay.
STEP 3:
Now get out your rectangular marqee tool. Select half of the image, right click, and press layer via cut which will make a new layer with half of your image on it
STEP 4 (optional):
Go to 'layer>layer style>blending options' and play around with the settings until you make it look somewhat like a see-through door. I left it the way it was but you can do anything to the image.
It should look like this now with out the blending options:

STEP 5:
Move the document into ImageReady.
Duplicate the frame in your Animation Palette and in the second frame, move the doors completly back to the end of the sig so they arent visible anymore. Tween that frame and add 10-15 frames depending how slow you wish for it to slide.
STEP 6:
Duplicate the last frame and move the doors back to their original spot. Tween that frame and add the same amount of frames you added in the first tween.
I did the basics pretty much, but it can be more complex. For example, add some borders.
One i created, the background behind the doors was white instead of transparent which gave it a richer effect.
Here is my result of the tutorial:

Bushinzan - December 12, 2005 07:00 AM (GMT)

what do you mean? use the rectangular marque and right hand click copy to new layer
or if its for all the layers use the crop tool
hopefully that helps
RONN1E - December 19, 2005 06:23 PM (GMT)
hey. sorry i may have not asked the question clearly, i mean using the lasso tool you cut the picture out .. i wondered how get it so nice and realistic.. unlike ragged square edges?
ronnie
Nightmare - December 20, 2005 07:40 PM (GMT)
oh you mean you want round edges? use the normal lasso and hold the mouse botton as you go around the area you wanna cut.
and if that still isnt your question please make it clearer, cus when you say you want nice and relastic i dunno what you mean by it, you want it jagged or smooth?
if smooth the top answer will help you out, if jagged take out your eraser after you moved it to a new layer, and set it to 50% opticaty and take out a grunge brush or something and erase peices of the edges
MiniCarl - December 20, 2005 09:51 PM (GMT)
be sure to have the feather on about 10-20 pixels
RONN1E - December 21, 2005 02:45 AM (GMT)
cheers and yes i mean smooth edges .. normal lasso i did use and it like goes all over (looking easily fake).
Nightmare - December 21, 2005 04:56 AM (GMT)
then try feathering the edges like mini said, but in order to feather then, you have to make them on a larger sig, then move both layers to a smaller sig later on. that would give you smooth but straight edges.

Ok, I have tried for ages now, I can't get the image ready to work, can some one say in more detail how to get from some image on each side - towards the middle?
All it does is fade.. what tween options did you use. How did you make it so that it was gradually going to the 2nd frame? Can you please have 2 screenshots, one of your tween options, and one of your animation pallete.
Note: this is my first animation.
Thanks for your help :)

Don't duplicate the layer. You're moving the same layer.

I would be lucky if I got that far... can you get those 2 screenshots, or just describe what it means in more deatail - like the tween, what settings there??
Nightmare - February 4, 2006 08:02 AM (GMT)
k well when you move it to image ready you have two layers each one of them is of half of the screen.
so you have one layer of the right half and the other of the left. On the animation panel you make opne slide where they are the way there suppose to be (in the middle). then you make a new slide and you move them to the outer parts, and you hit the tween button, and then pick a number of panels.
hopefully that helps...
if you dont know how to get the two seperate layers, in ps hit the rectangular marquee tool and select the half you want then hit right hand click, layer via cut. and there ya go you have two layers of the screen
BernardBlack - February 5, 2006 07:35 AM (GMT)
What key/trigger/option do I have to do to make it so that it moves backwards (I have the two different panels), do I need to have a panel on the left hand side that is all the way left, and one in the center, so that it moves between each other? When I tween that it opacity.
Or am I asking how to make a new slide - and how to put them together?
Omg, I feel so noobish - I can not even follow the basics of tutorials (even more basic than this) :(
Thanking you for your kind support so far :)
BernardBlack - February 16, 2006 05:36 AM (GMT)
How do I save it - when I save it all it is a .psd like grrr can't save it as a gif or w/e normal animations are, what do I do here?
Nightmare - February 16, 2006 06:39 AM (GMT)
ya go to file>save optimized as
