Title: How to Review a CD

One_Dead_Drummer - September 10, 2004 09:53 PM (GMT)
Bread Man explained a little, but I'm gonna go more in depth.

First thing is first, check to make sure it hasn't already been done, we don't like repeats.

Next step is the title/genre etc.

You want to follow this format:

(Genre1, Genre2, Genre3 possibly) (Artist) - (Album Name)

Somthing like this

(Metalcore, Heavy Metal, Melodic) Killswitch Engage - Alive or Just Breathing

Next step is backround info

Have some backround info of the band like band members that made it, year it was released, a little history on the band. Also put a tracklist of the album

You could but a pic of the album before the backround info, just put the link of the pic between the [IMG][/IMG] tags.

Next, you acutally do the review. You can do it song by song, or you can just do the whole album itself. STICK TO YOUR METHOD

For example:

Fixation on the Darkness - A song that made the Headbangers Ball cd. Starts out with a nice clean melodic riff that gets your head banging. The screaming is a little weak, but the singing is spectacular etc...

Or the whole album

Killswitch Enage's album Alive or Just Breathing is a very good heavy album for you metalheads. If your looking for a safe album to invest in, I would reccomend this. The songs vary depending on your liking. Self Revolution the mangage to stir in a few heavy riffs with some excellent singing. Other songs like My Last Serenade start out with a very heavy headbaning riff, and continues like this until the chorus when the vocalist shows off his talent. The downfall of the album is etc...

Highlight the tracks, the downfalls, positives what you like etc...

Next you rate the album 1 - 5

1. You really dislike this album and wouldn't reccomend it, everything about it is bad

2. This album is fairly bad, the band has a few good songs but nothing really special. Careful when you buy this, not really safe

3. This album is 50/50, it has it's good and it's bad, buy on your own free will, you either like it or you don't. The album has several good songs and if you like this genre of artist, this album might be good

4. This album is really good. Most of the tracks on this album are excellent. If you like this genre, this cd is a must. Spectacular. Album is solid and safe bet

5. Outstanding album, everything about it is good, if you don't like the genre, you will automatically love this album. Can't sopt listening to it. (5's are given on rare occasions.)

Misc. Info

You could put things like

Positives

or

Negatives

and list a few pointers and refer to your review, if you did the type of review where you did it by track, you could give a rating to the song 1 - 5

NO PLAIGERISING if you took some stuff from another site, give it credit.

This is about it, for more info see

Any mod or user feel free to add some pointers too.

Yeah, that's good. I'd also add just a few things.

1. Add pictures, usually an album cover, but sometimes it looks good to add pictures of the artist. Especially if you are reviewing a DVD.

2. Bold all of your song titles and ratings. It just looks good.

3. If you are reviewing a song with a whole review and not a track by track, give some reccomended tracks, and maybe even quick reviews of the reccomended ones.
