I'm starting the story before. The whole introduction I posted was just a general overlay of the direction of the story. I feel it leaves others a better oppourtunity to come into the story.

He was simply a messenger of King Rangol VIII, and errand boy. And a young one at that; he was only about 14 years old. Course, he's dead now...
Oh, and to clear up any confusion that might ensue:

There are no actual vultures, it's just a metaphor to liken the onlooking crowd to the scavenging bird. Pretty clever!!
