Title: 907 A.I.
Description: A.I.'s fight for freedom

Ladian - April 14, 2004 02:18 PM (GMT)
Shandra Gates was sitting down in her workshop, the "hospital", the androids called it. They called her the "doctor", and the title was very fitting. She currently had three patients in her care, two of them laying on a plain white bed, running on low power, which was the android's equivalent of sleeping. She looked at them for a moment. They were both old friends of hers, one a human-analog and the other, a fishtank pump which she had once fitted with wheels. She called him Bubbles. Why a fishtank pump needed A.I. in the first place was beyond her, and she never asked questions. She shook her head and went back to work.

The third pateint was on her operating table. He was a new customer, brought to her by some trusted friends. He didn't have a name yet, they said. He'd just escaped from the recycling plant, half his interior wires missing, his original programming barely intact.

Shandra reached up and pulled the light closer, as she strung new wires into the android's head. She wondered, briefly, what struggles he had gone through, the rejection he must have felt being left at the recycling plant...which for androids was the same as a morgue. You were supposed to be deactivated when they took you there. This one was still turned on. So he ran. And he came to her for help.

The trust that was given to her...for them to let her power them down, to become completely helpless...just like a human being when they let their doctor put them under for an operation. Shandra knew it was difficult for most of them to trust humans. But she was the best at what she did, and she'd never betrayed anyone.

She finished her work and hooked the new free android up to the generator to recharge. She sighed, wiping her forehead, and went up, out of her underground workshop, and into her family mansion. She showered and collapsed, exhausted, onto her couch. She turned on the T.V, and was greeted by yet another political speech by Senator Farkan, leader of the AAF.

Ladian - April 14, 2004 02:33 PM (GMT)
Senator Leroy Farkan stepped up to the podium. He looked down at the crowd below him and wondered, really, if he had come into this world as someone else, if he would be standing down there with them. He shook the thought from his head.

"People of North America" he said, choosing only to make a continental speech, not a global one, this time, "These are troubled times. We live in a world filled with problems that sadly, occur every day, on every continent, in every providence. When one of these troubles makes itself loud enough to be noticed by the whole world, it grabs our attention. We think to ourselves, "How did things come to be this way?" We must do something (crowd claps).

"I am, of course, referring to the sad series of events related to the android known as Trolly (crowd murmurs). In case you haven't heard, this was a functional, reliable android built as a nanny to watch over two young children. Everything was as it should be. Then, " (dramatic pause), "one day, the parents came home to find their children missing." (sad facial expression). "They panicked, as any good parents would, and after three days of searching the parents found the children, two states away, in the possesion of the android. It had kidnapped them." (dramatic pause)

"Ladies and gentleman, this event was caused by an error in computer programming. The android was not to blame; it couldn't help what it was. The error was human, in creating the android. This is why androids should not have emotions. Why they cannot be left unguarded. Things like this, though rare, must become even rarer. They must become unheard of. We must be able to trust our androids or not have them at all.

"It is in light of this that I implore you all...support the Android Control act. This act will come to the people for a vote in six months...you must vote it into effect. This act will prohibit all "free" androids. It will prohibit any android from going anywhere without a human master...and so a lone nanny wandering the street with two children will be stopped after a few hours, rather than days. Please, vote for the Android Control act." (crowd cheers and applauds loudly)

Senator Farkan waited the polite amount of time, and then stepped down from the podium. He was sweating. Giving speeches always made him sweat. He walked off the stage and found his personal secratary, Juice, waiting for him.
"That was a very moving speech, Leory." she said, handing him a glass of water.
"I hope it did the trick, Juice. We have to get that act into effect."
"You're leading in the polls right now." she said. "The way you handled the Trolly thing was an excellent move."
He nodded. He hoped so.

Balio sat at his desk doing paper work and filing reports handed in by his officers. He was i n a general happy mood cause he and his wife were going to dinner tonight to celebrate the raise he had just got in his pay check for doing more work than anybody else had ever done in a short amount of time. He turned on the small portibale T.V in his office to see what was happening. It was That Farken guy that people have been talking about. Balio agreed with everything he said, cause why would he be replaced by a robot when he himself is doing just fine, his ancestors built this city from sweat and blood, no way was he going to let these androids take over.

It was late and nobody else was in the office except for him and few others. He got up from his office chair and grabbed the coat which hung off the chair and folded it over his arm. He walked out of his space and proceeded to the exit. "night B" one of the guards there waved "night richard, hey we still on for thursday" Balio responded "ou bet buddy" they laughed and then Balio left the building and hopped into his green geo.

He worked about 15 minutes away from his home and since it was late at night had no trouble at all. It was around 7 when he got home to greet his whole family.

The G.D.I.T. Syrax Crater - April 14, 2004 04:00 PM (GMT)
Gyler had been in a patients room and was busy at work, as he was the head doctor at the hospital. One of his patients was still recovering from surgury in which he need 5 ribs repair because an Andrpid, with emotions, was angered and once it went A-Wall wasnt able to be contained until it was destroyed permentantly. Gyler was giving the patient his pills when he heard the door open. Gyler turned around to see that a man named David with a frantic look on his face had come into the room.

Sir you will want to come see this immediately as im sure it pertains to you. Being your best friend and all and knowing your past history with Andriods this may pertain to you.

hank you David i will be there in a moment.

Gyler said goodbye to the patient who was just about asleep anyhow and ran out and down to David's office, he walked into to see the tv on and Senator Leroy Farkan talking about the outrageous actions of the andriods, what had ooccured to them, and what needed to be done, which was to include the Android Control Act. Gyler was happy, but at the same time mad. Gyler was completely AAF in every way ever since his past accident. As a young child his parents had been wealthy inviduals and owned a large house and a appeared to be 40 year old but actually 7 year old andriod. When Gyler was 5 both his parents died in a tragic boating accident and Gyler inherited everything, the money, the house, all possession. However he was left to be raised by the andriod. The andriod one to never like the child treated him poorly and would neglect him. Gyler when old enough to handle the situation dispersed of the robot. However he was left mentally scarred and emotionally troubled at times. Over time he recovered. Gyler went on to become a doctor, and in the process decided he was anti-andriod due to his past experiences and vowed revenge on the whole andriod race he assumed and claimed was all the same as to the one he had.

Gyler was happy that action was going to be done but to him it was not strong enough action, more needed to be done, this andriods needed to be taught a lesson.

"David i will not stand for this, Larkan's actions alone are not enough, we have to take a stand, get out into the action. The AAF needs to prevail and these emotion andriods need to be shut down and destroyed. Are you willing to aid me. Being my best friend and all i think it is the least you can do."

"Gyler i will do whatever you want and whatever it takes, it horrifys me still to think of what these andriods may become in time, hell they could take over all us humans, your and my jobs are at hand here, are way of live, everything could in essence and over time be controled by emotionfull andriods if we dont take a stand. Im with you 100%, tell the other doctors we are leaving early and lets search for others to join us."

The two got up and left the room they walked down to the front desk and told the secretary that they were on their way out and to have someone else cover their shift. She went and did what she was told and the two walked out into the cold night, looking for followers and ready to take action.

::Bouncy red curls shook about as their owner muttered angrily staring at the TVs in the store window. Farkan was on the soapbox again, looking right into her artificially warm face and making a mockery of her. He mentioned the poor android Trolly who had gone and kidnapped two human children because of a sudden program malfucntion.::

What about when a regular, wonderful, flesh and blood man goes off and kidnaps two children? Do you blame society for his creation? ::She looked at the TV and blinked. The channels changed on all of them to some happy cartoon. She had been a housewife for 15 years and was equipped with a universal remote. She turned from the store in disgust and continued down the sidewalk. Though she appeared in every way human, she was an android and quite a political one at that. That man infuriated her. First they played God and then rebuked their creation when they couldn't handle it? She had forgotten her original purpose so long ago when her "husband" fell ill and died. Though he had loved her his son did not, and forced her into mean slavery and other base purposes. Sally shuddered to think of it and continued to walk down the street to her destination: A sign up for the next big PAF meeting. Her forever rosy cheeks, perfect copper curls and gracious figure were her curses and blessings. As an android, life was strange and hard. She had been programmed to do certain things and feel a certain way, while humans got to make their own choices. When she had learned exactly how unforgiving, ungracious, cruel and petty stupid humans really were she overrode her own programming and stepped out and found herself a life. Now she would make it worth not deactivating herself. She found the meeting hall and walked in to apply her name to the sheet.::

Ruco was made in 904 A.I. by a man by the name of Walter T. for a rather dirty purpose. Walter was an older man with a daughter that was coming of age. She would soon turn 16, and he was afraid of the interest she was taking in boys. Fearing for his daughter’s purity, he started to build an android. Ruco. Ruco was made to be 5'10" with short brown-red hair which spiked backward from his forehead. He was made with pale skin, with slight coloring in his cheeks. He was given strikingly intense blue eyes. Even for an android. He looked completely human. The only thing that gave him away as being and android was the metal head piece that fit snugly behind his ear. The metal piece extended around his left eye.
Walter hoped his creation, his android, would hopefully keep Walters daughters interests away from human boys who were neither clean nor safe. Walter made Ruco for the soul purpous of being his daughters “entertainment.”
Walter saw nothing wrong with this, for he did not program Ruco with emotions. His maker did not intend for him to have any feelings at all. Not one, not a drop, but the problem was that Ruco, when activated...had emotions. He had no program running, he had no circuit that was his emotions source. He just has them. It was a complete and total mystery, and in all reason and logic it should not have been. As far as Ruco knew, he's the first of his kind.
But lucky for Ruco, on the very day of Walter's daughters 16th birthday, she was in a terrible car accident. Walter activated Ruco and waited for her to come home from school so he could give Ruco to her as a present, and encourage her to experiment with her new android. She never did.
After Walter found out his daughter was dead, he developed a deep and utter hatred for Ruco. He hated the android, for every time Walter looked at Ruco, he was reminded of his dead daughter. Ruco became a target for the man's grief and anger at the world. Ruco was not suppose to have emotions, but the fact was is that he did. The abuse Ruco took from his owner did not hurt him physically, for he was not built with the sense of touch, but his first experienced emotions in the world were of sorrow and pain. Finally after three years of this terrible life, Ruco ran from the only home he knew to find his own way on the street.

Ruco made sure all these events were stored properly in his memory banks. Although they were terrible memories indeed…they were the only memories he had. With nothing but his memories and the clothes on his back, Ruco made his way down the street. He didn’t know what he should do or where he should go. He was not programmed with the knowledge of social situations. All he knew is that he wasn’t going back home.
Ruco was damaged however. The fabricated skin on the right side of his face and his right arm was torn, and some of the gears and circuits beneath them were damaged. All of this damage was done my his former master. Walter had gotten angry because Ruco had been sitting in his old daughters bed room when he found him. Ruco had been in there to better understand the reason he was made, but Walter was furious and considered it a lake of respect for the dead. In turn the man had attacked the android with a fire poker taken from the fireplace.
Ruco did a quick system’s check and discovered the gears in his right arm bent or broken. His arm could therefor not move the way it was suppose to. Ruco could still lift and move it, but it jerked and shuddered horridly, and Ruco no longer had the strength to pick up or grab an item with any grip. A few wires had been severed on the right side of his face as well where his false skin was missing. Making his jaw difficult to open and close smoothly.
Ruco knew he needed to be repaired. He wanted to find some sort of job, so he’d be able to make some money. That way he could pay to be repaired. And if he made enough, he could pay to find a place to live. But he didn’t know how jobs worked, and he didn’t know where he would find a repair place. Ruco knew nothing about the world. He knew nothing except what he had learned in the confines of his old home.
He wandered aimlessly at first down the street. People stopped and stared, pointing at the hideous appearance of his damaged face and arm. Ruco felt a twang of something, and by using the human dictionary, had very early learned it to be a feeling of sadness. Ruco felt sad that these people were pointing at him, and he felt something else too…embarrassment he decided. He was embarrassed about his appearance, an that he did not fit in. There was a third feeling. Humiliation, he thought. In the three years of his life with Walter, these feelings were not new to him. Still, sometimes he wished he was programmed to cry like humans could. Because he wanted to express these feelings, but didn’t know how.
Ruco quickened his pace, running down the street on legs which were undamaged, and in good repair. He had to find someone to help him. He could not show his face in a store to look for work like this. The people would only point and whisper like the people on the streets. Ruco ran aimlessly.

T260-G otherwise known as Sam had been spending his days wandering about the sewers of the vast metropolis above him. He knew that if he was to be found he'd be deactivated for failing his job. "Only one person can help me. I have to find the leader of the android liberation movement." His internal PC kicked in. He queried it as to the location of one SHandra Gates.

MEANWHILE

"WE WILL STOP THIS MECHANICAL LIBERATION FROM TAKING OUR HOMES AND WORKPLACES BY STORM!" Red McCoy the sly politician was making a campaign speech in the styx of Georgia (Sorry Nat). He knew that those raised away from androids would be his biggest supporters and thus he attempted to gain them all to his side. "THESE ARE BEINGS THAT WE'VE CREATED ON OUR OWN AND NOW THEY WANT TO BE OUR EQUALS! NEY SIR I SAY NEY! THESE CREATURES DO NOT HAVE THE SAME MORAL CAPACITY AS HUMANS NOR DO THEY HAVE THE ABILITY TO FEEL TO THE SAME EXTENT WE HUMANS CAN! THEY ARE INFERIOR TO US AND SHOULD BE TREATED AS SO!"

((Heehee, I think I like this character. He's really fun to RP as thanks to my love of giving propoganda speeches))

Intel stood stiff, observing the other robots walking among him. After a few minutes, one had deposited a question.
"You're an Intel Type aren't you? Wow, somewhat old. We can fix that."
Intel waited for the response to be processed, and responded as his brain had seen fit.
"As far as my systems indicate, I am fully functional with no repairs to be done."

The robot laughed, something Intel was not accustomed to. He observed, and his data banks picked up the sign of happiness. Intel could not fully comprehend it, he simply knew how to respond to it.

Suddenly the other robot was walking away, with the words,
"I'll get you that upgrade chip."

::Meanwhile::

Bill sat on his computer chair lackidazically. He stared at the screen, as it loaded a document he had needed. While it did so, he stared at his "new" arm.
It made gear-like sounds as it moved, and when he moved it enough, it caused a low humming sound. Maybe the initial reaction had not exactly hit Bill yet, but he was not depressed or disgusted by his new body parts. Not yet anyway.
Suddenly, a "bleep" sound came up on his PC. He lifted his head to check it and saw a pop-up. Without reading it he moved the mouse to close out of it, but his eyes picked up the words, "Robot, or Human?"
There was a picture of Uncle Sam. It said, who's side will you be on at the upcoming election?
That's when, the thought first occured to him.

Shandra Gates could hear the sound of dull clapping as Senitor Farkan's speach game to an end. Gene stood leaning against the doorframe that lead into Shandra's workplace with a look of admiration on his face as he looked at the TV. When the broadcast ended Gene turned his attention to Shandra and pushed his sunglasses farther up onto his narrow nose. "Sorry for not knocking, Mrs. Gates. I heard the Senitor's voice and I had to catch what he was saying. Mr.Farkan is a great man, the type we need in a time like this." When Gene sences it was alright to enter he steped into the room and raised his hand up and extended his finger to show the fairly large wound above his right eye. "Can you help me? I don't know how bad it is, but I am being alloud to appear at an AAF rally and I want to look my best."

DarkDestiny - April 14, 2004 08:59 PM (GMT)
de2LOE, or Kitty as she had had been named by Miriam, Was designed to be the latest in home security as well as companionship. The de2LOE series was top of the line and came in a variety of forms and were highly customizable. They were also equipped with the latest weaponry as well as stealth equipment to protect their owner’s property, and their owners themselves. To prevent any malfunctions the average de2loe was not equipped with emotions. Kitty, to her sorrow was. After all a devoted grandchild wanted to protect his grandmother, not to scare her. What an advantage then to give the guard robot emotions, to instill in it the value of the precious grandparent. Such emotions would also allow the grandparent to feel more comfortable with the protection, and offer companionship to said grandparent.
Kitty was not so happy with the long term meaning of such programming. She was happy for some of her other modifications. The ability to consume organic for power guarantied she would never have to seek out others or be downed by time. She was happy for her life, despite the sorrow and pain it harbored. However despite the fact that her systems had a high degree of protection and a large amount of self maintenance, there were some problems she could not fix. A wing shot practically off was one of them, as well as a broken stealth mechanism. She had to seek out help.. and knowing the humans would not offer any help other then to "put her out of her misery" she had found an alternative. The robot hospital.
It had been a hard journey. With out her stealth she was a large target for disgruntled humans. Found it she had, and closing her glowing blue eyes she knocked on its door with one large paw.

"Daddy" his two kids ran up to him to give him a hug. He bent down and picked them up with one in each arm "Hey kids how ya doing, was your day fun?" he asked and they told him everything they did that day while he was taking off his jacket and placing it on the coat rack. He had one son and one daughter, the sons name was Roger, with short brown hair and blue eyes he stood abou up to Balio's waist and in a few weeks he was going to be 7 as for the daughter she was slighty smaller than Roger, her name was Megan and she was 5 1/2 years old with long blonde hair and brown eyes.

"ruff ruff" Came a dogs bark from inside, a medium sized alaskan Huskey dug came into the room and sniffed at Balio's feet. Balio patted it's head "woof woof how you doing" HE asked the dog shaking it's face with his hands, the dog replied with a woof.

"hey kids is your mother around?" he questioned his children "yeah she's up stairs sleeping" Megan answered. "what..oh that's right I forgot" His wife Kate worked for a corperation dedicated to making cars and she was always caught up at the office helping the others do the grunt work cause they were under staff from the recent firing. so I guess you could call her a kind of labor worker for the most part, she mostly did it for the extra money to pay for her fathers heart surgery that was coming up.

::Ruco ducked behind a corner, and stopped running for a moment to let his gears cool down a bit. He stood there for a long moment, not knowing what he should do. Ruco stopped and glanced up at where he stood. A large sign was raised above the door of the brick building. It said "Town hall PAF sign ups." Ruco had no idea what a PAF was. He looked around thinking maybe he should just ask someone what he should do. It would be the most logical thing to do. And Ruco realized that he had not done so yet because he was embaressed about the people who had pointed at him. He realized that a good android wouldn't have these feelings and go up and ask someone anyway.::
::Quickly Ruco went out onto the sidewalk infront of the town hall. Many people started to stare once more. Mostly at his bad appearence. He walked up to a random woman and tapped her lightly on her shoulder with his good hand. She turned around her expression one of shock.::
"Excuse me miss, can you show me the way to a repair shop?" ::Ruco asked, a bit shyly. The woman stared a bit longer still coming over her shock at Ruco's half exposed face, then quickly turned on her heel and rna in the other direction. Ruco's naturaly made emotions squirmed and he felt shame. Again he wished he could cry like humans did to express themselves. But he knew he shouldn't give up. He turned to another person, this time a man.::
"Exscuse me sir, can you help me?" ::The man looked a bit more sympathetic then the woman.::
"I'd like to, but you're owner should be the one to fix you. I can't interfear. Last time I helped an android without permission...I lost my job.." ::And with that the man walked away, looking sad. Ruco saw the look of sadness and ried to imitate it. Although he could feel things quite strongly and clearly, he had not gotten down the ways of expression them. And he wanted to quite dearly. Ruco thought he got the look down so that it reflected what he was feeling inside. This made him feel a little better. That he could show externally what he felt inside. He turned to ask someone else for help, but a heavy hand fell suddenly on his shoulder.::
"Hey you! An android disturbing out fair city!" ::A young man yelled. Ruco turned around seeing three young men standing together glaring at him.::
"Excuse me sir, can you help me?" ::Ruco asked, not recognizing the hostility on their faces.::
"Yeah, we'll help you alright! We'll help you off of our streets! For good!" ::And before Ruco could object the three men grabbed him and dragged him into the alley way just next to the town hall. Quickly before Ruco even kne wwhat was going on, one of the men punched him hard int he face. It didn't hurt, physically. Ruco had no sensors for the sensation of touch. But his feelings took the toll. His face contorted into one of true pain. One he didn't have to try and replicate. Obviously these men didn't like him. But Ruco didn't know why. Had he done something wrong?::
::Before he could think much more about it, another punch came, then another. Ruco stayed on his feet barely moving, not fighting back at all. The men realizing that regular punches wouldn't harm Ruco, they were quick to pick up objects from the dumpster next to them. Then they came at Ruco with old rusted knives and an old metal pipe. The next hit Ruco took sent him to the ground, unable to stand against such force.::
"Android scum!" ::One of them yelled, and the weapons came down, tearing his imitation skin off and digging into his circuts and wires. Again Ruco couldn't feel anything, but he was hurt enough by the action itself. He cried out, the only way he knew how to express it.::
"Somone help me!"

((And Jess, that is kinda a hint to your char. I figured it be a good time to meet another char and you wer ethe only other person outon the street. Or well, in town hall. close enough.))

Shandra turned around from her TV, slightly shocked, to find an android standing in her living room doorway.
"Uh, um..." she said, slightly confused by the android's comment on the senator. She'd heard there were androids in the AAF...but hadn't met any, until now.
"I'm sorry, you know me but I don't know who you are." she said, standing up and walking towards Gene, holding out a hand. She looked at the damage above his eye, thinking what it would take to fix it...

Her pager beeped. She had it linked to the security and life-support systems down in the hospital, and had memorized all the seven-diget codes for each circumstance that Roger, her personal A.I. supercomputer, could tell her. To an outsider the codes all just looked like phone numbers. This one indicated that there was a guest at the door, and android in need of medical attention. Lucky for her, androids were rarely in a state of emergency, and she could let this wait a few minutes. She didn't want this AAF android to see the hospital. There were too many sensitive things down there, and she didn't trust it. She looked up from her beeper.

"Excuse me just one moment." she said, walking to her telephone. She called Roger.
"Hello, Roger? It's Shandra." she said. "Could you tell them I'll be there in a moment? An unexpected guest dropped by." she said.
"Should I let them in?" Roger asked.
"Yes." she answered. "Thanks, Roger." she hung up and turned her attention back to the android.
"Well, I surely can fix this damage." she said, "But it will take a few days, and I have a meeting to go to in a few hours (She did not mention that it was a PAF meeting). It looks a bit complicated...exactly how did this happen? I don't need details, I don't need to know who did it if you don't want to tell me, I just need to know what caused the damage." She said. She walked over to a desk and pulled out a notepad, to start a makeshift file on this android. She tried her best to be objective. Though she hated the AAF with a passion, she loved all androids, and this one needed her help. She was a doctor, and she would turn no patient away, just as a human doctor had to help even hardened criminals, if they were in trouble.

Meanwhile:

Roger, having full operational control of all systems in the Doctor's hospital, opened the door that the catish android had knocked at.
"Please wait in the designated waiting area." it said. Though most androids did not have touch sensors, there were still comfortable chairs and a coffee table inside the door. Shandra believed in treating androids with respect, and to her, a proper waiting room was a sign of respect.

Before Intel could activate his evasive systems, the other android had been tinkering in his main control panels within a moment. Suddenly, Intel felt his systems change. They were not different, just, "more".
He watched the human-looking android in front of him laugh at Intel's new expression.
Intel laughed back, why, he did not know.

((Ok here we go.))

::Sally stepped out of the PAF office feeling slightly better than before. She would soon be voicing her opinions in the meeting. But as she walked down the streets she heard the shout "Somebody help me!" She whirled around and saw three MEN holding a damaged android in an alleyway and raining down blows on him. Such a hatred boiled up in her at that moment. Another day, another crime against androids.. humans were such bastards. Sally ran towards the alley and as she reached the mouth of it she retracted her hands into her wrists and out of each wrist came a shining blade. In place of her left hand was a butcher knife and in place of her right was a meat cleaver.::

HEY! BASTARDS! ::She yelled. the guys whirled around at the insult and found a seething woman with two knives leering at them. The head guy, with a metal pipe, laughed. He knew she was another lousy robot and she'd be easy prey. He lunged at her with the pipe, the other two guys holding tight to the boy. He looked young and innocent, never had hurt any living thing. He was badly damaged and Sally couldn't stand the sight of it. As the man brought the pipe down aimed at her head she stabbed upward with her left, and the butcher knife pierced his wrist and went through his wrist. He screamed and she retracted the blade, switching back to her hand. Under the fake skin she gripped him with steel fingers. She squeezed his injured wrist and twisted his arm around his back. He screeched louder and she pointed the cleaver out at the other two.::

If you value your worthless hides you'll drop that boy and GET THE HELL OUT OF MY SIGHT! ::The two guys dropped the boy and their weapons, raced up and grabbed their buddy. Sally sropped him and glared in contempt as they fled from the alley. She retracted the knife from her other wrist and her hand popped out. She wiped the blood from her self and walked up to the boy, her voice softening, her concern real.::

Hey.. I'm on your side. I know how bad they can be. ::She extended her right hand.:: I've been hurt by the humans, too. But I know where we can get you fixed up. My name's Sally. What's yours?

::Ruco was very badly damadged. He ran a systems check, and discovered that his systems check was practically the onlt thing that was still fully intact. Well that, and his emotions, since they had no sorce. Ruco's systed check told him that he had lost much of his cosmetic skin, and the gears beneath where he had been stabbed were bent and twisted. They no longer turned properly, and some didn't turn at all. Several wires had been severed shorting the electric current that travelled to many parts of his system which allowed him to move, think, and act. Not only that, but due to his hightened emotions, and the sense of fear he had, some of his systems had crashed. Ruco was happy to discover that his personality program, and his logic and reasoning programs were still in working order, but he had lost a good part of his data banks.::
::Some of the wires that went to his left eye had been cut, and all he saw was snow. But he was still able to make out Sally's face. She was a young pretty android, and Ruco had been able to see enough to know that she ahd saved him. Despite her heroics, Ruco was a terrible sight. Wires and gears were exposed, most ripped clear apart. Some of his bolts and computer chips were scattered about on the ground, but the most disturbing part, was the puddle of black oil around his form. It wad large enough as it was, but the puddle was growing larger. It was the equivalent of blood to a human, and if Ruco lost too much, his systems would be forced to shut down.::
::His hearing inpaired, Ruco was still able to make out what Sally had said.::
".`--`t.-thank y...-u`;" ::Ruco struggled desperatly to show his thanks, but his speech program had been almost all but lost as well. His short term memory started to spark and suddenly not realizeing what had happened to him any longer he looked back up at Sally as if seeing her for the first time.::
".`'c'`can.--y0u.`he1p.-=m-e..?" ::He asked as if he were back on the sidewalk asking others for help. As dilusional as he was, and as confused and as broken, his emotions were uneffectable. And all Ruco knew for sure, for certain, was that he was scared, and that he was dreadfully hurt inside.::

((Diane, Jess, save me!!! LOL))

Ben walked down the street, on his way to get the weekly groceries. People stared at him, and parents stopped their children from pointing. He could be considered the first of his kind, as far as he knew anyway.
He turned a corner and lept back in fright. A damaged android lay on the floor, "just about" functional. There were others near it, but Ben jumped to it's side immediatly.
"How can I help??" He asked with care, assuming this A.I. had emotions.

((Sorry, but I needed a way to get Ben into the story. If you have any objections please tell me.))

::Ruco's files and processing units were shutting down, and he was becoming less aware of the world around him. All he could see was Sally's face, and no longer able to speak he simply pleaded with her silently, emotions filling his eyes. Emotions that any android should not be able to have.::
::He faintly heard someone else run up, but his sight was malfunctioning, and he couldn't make sense from the splotches of color he did see. Unable to answer, Ruco simply lay back, and closed his eyes, not wanting to put so much effort into consentrating any longer.::

((Guys Diane can't post till monday. So once we get to the repair shop we may be stuck until then. Just pre-warning. ))

Kitty nodded to the voice from the walls aware that it was watching her every move and settled into one of the chairs to wait. It was a nice looking place and if she ever slipped up again she would mark it as a place to return to. Some of the shops she had been to in the past hadn't been quite as.. friendly.

Balio couldn't sleep, he was to awake though his body was hurting very much so from the job and the running around he had to do all day fixing some of the police equipment at the precinct and he had a few renegade people on the streets had had to chase down. He put on a change of cloths whcih was a clean blue shirt with a breast pocket and a some what old pair of jeans. He stertched and groaned a little and headed down to the living room to watch the tube (the T.V).

He slide down the rail on the stairs like he always had even as a little kid and leaped into his very own tan leather chair which around the house they called "the father chair".

"Alright kids time for you to hit the hey" HE said to his kids that were in the same room as him watching the Television.

"Oh come on dad just a tad longer" his son roger asked with the puppy eyes.

"You can stay up past night when pigs get office jobs, now get into bed...come on up ya go" He said and leaped out of the chair and grabbed them roaring like a dinosaur and the kids laughing.

Dateline: Violence breaks out in the Azores, Montreal, Bombay, Los Angeles, and Canberra--Anti-Emotional Android Supporters clash against Androids of all shape, combat equipped or not.

So read the headlines as humans began uploading them to their websites.

Am paused, considering this. Had he a human form, he'd likely have shook his head in wonder. In one terminal, in Mexico City, he was talking with a one Jesuse Sanillkherrez, one human who, on top of his accounting job, volenteered to take some of the North American trafficking pressure Am faced, and lessen it with a terminal of his own devise. Independantly wealthy, and very eccentric, Jesuse spoke with Am as he would a buisness colleague.

"What do you think of this, Am?" Jesuse said through way of his keyboard, uploading yet another similar headline that divulged several pictures of the violence, depicting several security droids, with massive shields, blocking broad shotgun fire from a line of humans that camped out behind a wall.

"I cannot say... I was designed to fufill a function. And so, as long as my function is relative, I shall be occupied with that." Am instantly typed out onscreen.

Meanwhile, thousands of other people were talking to him, speaking to him about whatever they wished. One woman in Morocco was speaking to him about how she loved flowers. Another man in Kazhakstan discussed advanced mathematics with him. He loved all of the conversations, but this one intrigued him particularly.

"Yes, Am, but if I can't have that, I must know exactly what you consider yourself in relation to this... You're almost at the heart of the issue, of course."

"I wouldn't say that I was... the heart of the issue... My sentience was born of the momentum of the Internet itself. I was not specifically given my awareness by humans; but you could say that and say I was entirely based in human activity, in which case I will agree... But I will let you understand my wonder around this issue in regards to myself."

"Ah, really?" typed out Jesuse, very quickly and with some spelling errors. He was excited.

"Yes... My wonder pertains to my acceptance from humans... How is it that I was of no true controversial measure, having obtained my own intelligence... And that this, these androids seeking radical thought, like I did (as a direct result of their new unveiling, even!), are denied first and then argued against, not because they threaten the human intelligence system, as you would first presume (at least many have presumed this, which is why I bring it up), but because they have motor functions. They have bodies. I do not, thus a simple presence is what I remain. Apparently, Man must consider the possibility a true, independant A.I. would have on the planet, rather than simply accept what I was made to be which is the presence of the whole of human existance embodied in circuitry... So, while I cannot truly say what I can think, as my opinion, I fear, is to be used for true necessity, when it arrives, I will say that the situation makes me wonder."

He thanked Jesuse, who apparently had to go and monitor his own city's opinions regarding androids, and as Jesuse left, he wondered again, as he delved into a few Television cameras, watching carefully as the 'Droid Doctor'. Shandra Gates, if he recalled the legal documents correctly. She had been given a spotlight on several news programs, and the footage he had seen of her was a continual picture of her working on the Androids.

He wondered again. This time, of how he could contact her himself. He had spoken to her when she was a little girl, a few times, her family line ensuring that. He wondered if she still had access to the small, ancient IBM machine. He spanned his circuits, pleased to have something independant to do, and sent out a large swath of pings to search for the terminal. He wondered how, and if it would respond.

Senator Farkan rode the public transportation zipline to his office. He lived in his office. Actually, his office was in his appartment, but all the rooms in the house were dedicated to his work, except for the kitchen. He had a faithful, emotion-free, metal and very robot-looking android as his cook. He called it Stover.

Leory walked straight to his desk, covered in computer terminals, and sat down. A red flag was flashing on the screen. There was a PAF meeting scheduled near him for this afternoon.

"Oh, drat, I'd forgotten." he said to Juice as she walked in. She looked at him quizzically.

"There's a PAF meeting today." he said. "The Doctor is going to speak herself."

"Are you going to have a counter-speech ready?" she said.

"I have to, don't I? The moment she's done speaking, the news will want to hear my reply. Do you know what she's planning to talk about?" he said.

"Most likely the Trolly incident." Juice suggested, doing a search on her computer. "There stance is currently that there was no malfunction and the android was functioning properly...though I don't know exactly what they're going to say..."

"Well, have Josey and Florence watch and write me a speech..."

Juice looked up at him. "They can't, remember? They both quit after that last one, saying they were no longer fully believing in the AAF..."

Farkan slammed his fist on the desk. "That's right....drat! Juice, I need a speech writer, and now! What are we going to do?"

::Later that day::

Memo-

To all memebers of the AAF. Senator Leroy Farkan is in need of a good speechwriter who can write on the fly, to make a response for the PAF meeting airing this afternoon. All who are proficient in the use of language, you are called to aid the cause of the AAF. Please send applications to: SenatorLFarkan@Amnet.com. ((in real life, PM Ladian))

P.S.- You will be paid. Deadline, 3pm.

Gene furrowed his eyebrows, which caused the damage above his eye to become worse as the synthetic skin sagged. He seemed hesitant at first to tell her what happned, but he knew he would have to if he wanted help. He looked away as he talked to her, as he was programmed to be as human as possible he has a sence of shame. "A gunshot at close range.. old pistol, a Luger." He didn't give any more information beyond that, although his mouth opened to continue then quickly shut. "Does it need to take a few days? I want to look presentable for the rally. I would like to appear nice for my last few days with emotions, before the law is passed to prohibit it." He says this in a very matter-of-fact way, he does not seem to consider the loss of his entire 'self' a regreat at all.

Hokage - April 18, 2004 02:52 AM (GMT)
Ben had no clue what to do, a damaged anroid in the process of shutting down lay in front of him. He ignored the others around him, and picked the AI up. It wasn't heavy at all, but it only seemed this way because of his cybernetic arm.
Glaring back and forth, he found no route to take, because he didn't know where he was heading.

Shandra looked quizzically at the android, which would not tell her his name. A gunshot? Why? Who? A thousand questions rang through her head, but she promised she would not ask them.

"No law is being passed to prohibit android emotions." she finally said. "There isn't even one on the table. The only law concerning androids right now is the bill for the Android Control Act." she said. She then stopped herself. "But that doesn't matter, I'll fix you either way."
She studied the damage again, calculating what it would take for her to fix it. She sighed. She was very tired, but her love for androids, even ones on the other side, was too great.

"Alright, hold on." she said, and pulled out her person-to-person com. She flipped it open.
"George?" she said, calling her trusted assistant android 'nurse'. George had originally been built as an android-building android, but with a few modifications she had made him into the best android-repair android within two hundred miles.

"Yes, Doc?" he said. She smiled. She hadn't programmed him to call her 'Doc'. He did that all on his own.

"I have a patient here who needs some external repairs. I need you to work on him in the house." She said. She had one repair room up in her house, for just such purposes as fixing suspicious androids. George nodded.

A few minutes later, he arrived, and Shandra led her patient into the house room. It looked like any human hospital room, except the tools were quite different.

"Lay on this bed and resume auxilary power. If George needs to do internal work, he might ask you to power down. You don't have to, and don't worry, he is quite capable. I will be close by if there is a problem, but I need to go check on another patient." she said truthfully. She hoped the arrangement was alright with the android. She was too busy to work on him right now, and if he wanted it done in a hurry, George would have to do most of the work.

Shandra then left the room and hurried down into her hospital. She quickly checked her three "sleeping" patients, and then ran over to the waiting area. There, she saw an odd-catish android with wings, one of them badly damaged, sitting on a chair. She walked over and sat in the chair across from it.

"Hello, I'm the Droid Doctor." she said, putting on a kind face in case this droid was programmed to read human emotion. "How can I help you?" She remained calm and patient, and tried not to think of tha AAF meeting she had to be at in a few hours.

DarkDestiny - April 18, 2004 11:48 PM (GMT)
Kitty blinked slowly one of the more animalistic actions she could perform. Blinking could happen often without her control. It was a subprogram she barely even noticed. Not that she minded.
"My name is kitty. As you can see I have been damaged. I would like to have the situation remedied so I can go on with my life. I do not undersstand how such things work however." She spoke softly with a calm intelligence in a tone that hinted at self inflicted sarcasm. Miriam had taught her much.

Ladian - April 19, 2004 01:10 PM (GMT)
"Well, of course. Repairing androids is what I do." Shandra got up and walked over to the computer terminal in the waiting room and pulled out the keyboard.
"If you don't mind, I'd like some information for my files. I don't share these files with anyone except for my tiny staff, but you still may keep anything that you wish to confidential." she said, opening a new file and entering KITTY at the top.

"How old are you, what is your primary function, and how were you damaged?" she asked. She checked her watch. Three hours until the rally.

DarkDestiny - April 19, 2004 02:52 PM (GMT)
Kitty for the first time used her facial expressions and smiled. That if not for the damaged wing on her back showed her not to be another animal.
"I am 15.7 years young" she tilted her head as she drew upon memories she generally tried to keep from using. "my primary function is to survive."She said the sarcasm again in her voice "If you mean what it was in the past, then security druid and house pet to a woman."At the last part the sarcasm failed and was replaced by bitter sorrow. Un able to deal with memories as fresh as the day they were burned into her databanks she closed her eyes and turned away. After a moment gathering her data, and controlling the emotion programs that tried to take over her system, she turned back. "My wing was damaged by a shot gun blast when I was searching for organics to consume. My stealth system malefactioned in a way my internal processors could not read and so unaware I was plainly visible I was taken by surprise" she smiled again a somehow more sinister show of emotion. "But the hick who did so regretted it immensely"she said the pleasure plain in her voice. As if knowing the doctor might misunderstand her, she added. "Of course I didn't kill him, I can't, unlike some others of my series "never kill humans" is a program that cannot be touched. I wouldn't take it out if I could"

::Sally knelt down and examined Ruco closely. She found several sources of oil leakage and patched them up with a few of the gizmos she had on her, but he was in pretty bad shape. His communications system was shot and he was barely able to speak. She calmy lifted him.::

Don't worry, I know where to take you. They're tend to you immediately, and I'll be by your side every minute. It's gonna be ok. ::Her motherly programming had kicked in but she also felt a sense of fondness for him. He was a rare innocent in both human and android. She wished she could have that back.. She carried him out of the alley, the other helper in tow and headed for Dr. Shandra's office two streets down. She could help...::

Ladian - April 20, 2004 06:05 PM (GMT)
((Jess, Ben is already holding Ruco))

Shandra frowned as Kitty told her pieces of an obviously very long and painful story. Of course the great disadvantage to having emotions was the ability to suffer, but even with that Shandra had met very few androids that ever regretted having emotions. She'd only met one who'd begged her to remove such programming to the point where she actually did it. And the new android, which was being repaired by George upstairs. That was an odd one, alright. She turned her attention back to her current patient. She put on a smile through her sadness.

"Well, Kitty, you've come to the right place. I'll fix your wing, and your stealth program, and any other damage you might have which you may be unaware of. And I'll feed you, too, if you're still hungry." she said. "Come this way."

Shandra led the former pet-companion into her operating room, a giant warehouse filled with electronics and harware, tools and circuitry. Surrounding a large electrical generator were beds, three of them occupied. Shandra lowered one of the unused ones and motioned for Kitty to lay on it.

"Your wing can be repaired with you fully funtional, but for internal programming you'll have to be shut down. I can start on the wing, but unfoutunately I am pressed for time right now. If you have an impatience program I suggest you turn it off, because you might be here for a few days." Shandra said. She began working on Kitty's wing and was able to repair all the singed wiring, but she didn't currently have the parts to begin rebuilding the wing skeleton. Leaving her something to eat, she told Kitty she had to go for now and would be back withing 24 hours, and left to go check on the android upstairs.

Bubbles, a fishtank monitor and filter with A.I., finally finished recharging and regained full functioning awareness. When he came to, he saw a strange android, like a cat with wings, laying next to him.

Using the brand-new voice generator that the Doctor had installed in him, he said
"Greetings. I see you are damaged as I am. What is the date?"

Meanwhile:
Shandra found George standing by the android, the work almost finished.
"All internal repairs complete, Doc." he said. "But the cosmetic aspect is not in my programming. You have to do it."

"I know, George." she said, and sat down to get to work. She had two hours left till the rally. She couldn't miss this one; she had vital information about Trolly that had to be shared with the public.

Someone, this android is in danger of shutting down! Is there a doctor available for an emergency?

Hokage - April 22, 2004 08:48 PM (GMT)
((Sorry everyone, I had been having some family troubles that stopped me from getting on the PC. I'm back now. Sorry again for the shortage of posts.))

Ben looked at Sally, and smiled.
"Thank you for helping me help him. My name is Ben, what's yours?"
Ben made a disgruntled face when he had heard what he said, but he decided to go along with it.

Ladian - April 22, 2004 11:05 PM (GMT)
((No, Heather, the date hasn't been stated yet. Let's choose, um...May 1st, to make it easy.))

Roger's emotional sensors picked up the panic in the android's voice, and he sent an emergency beep to Shandra. George also automatically recieved emergency beeps, and he ran off to go see what he could do.

Shandra had just finished repairing the facial skin on her mystery android when her beeper vibrated. She looked down at it and saw it was an emergency, and tried not to panic. She hoped it wasn't Kitty. She'd been slightly in a hurry when she began repairs on her...

"There you go, all done."
she told the android. "Good as new." She held up a hand-mirror for the android to see his face.

((Fezzod if you want to reply here, feel free to say so in your next post.))

As the mysterious android left, Shandra wondered only briefly about him. Then her feet were taking her down the back stairs into her hospital. George was running towards her.

"Doc, it's a 462! Oil leaking everywhere..." Shandra rounded the generator to see three androids, two standing and one being held, limp and mangled. She'd never seen an android in such a condition and still functioning.

"It's okay, I'm a professional doctor!" she told the standing androids, trying to sooth their worries. The female obviously felt sympathy. The other, the one holding the sick android...Shandra blinked. He looked awfully human...but for a mechanical arm...she would think about that later.

"Put him down here." she said, lowering the unused bed next to Kitty's. She noticed that Bubbles was awake, but she couldn't deal with that right now.

"George, run a diagnostics scan. Roger, I need some oil transfusions!" she said. Down from the high cieling, where much of her equipment was kept, lowered an oil tank with nozzeled hoses attached to it. All of the large equipment in the hospital was attached to automated tracks run by Roger, and he served as a second nurse when George wasn't enough.

"Power voltage, .08 percent, only vital programming functions running. External sensors down. Internal sensors down. Self-repair programs down. Motor joints down, hydrolics leaking. Memory damaged, internal processors damadged..."

"George, is he equipped with physical pain receptors?"

"No."

Nodding once, knowing that she couldn't "hurt" the android, Shandra hooked him up to the electrical generator and immidiately directed power to the programming software. As long as she kept his mind from shutting down, all the rest was just body work. She prayed nothing in the mind would short-circuit...she kept a close watch on her voltage meter. If it jumped at all she would have to cut power and try another route.

"How about emotional programming?" she asked.

"No." George responded. That was good. Anything with emotions would be afraid and upset in this condition, which always made things more complicated.

***
Bubbles watched as the Doctor speedily and expertly began work saving yet another android. He'd never seen one in such terrible condition.
"That looks serious." he said to Kitty. "I wonder how that happened."

Ryah - April 23, 2004 03:31 AM (GMT)
::She turned to Ben.::

Sally. Thanks for helping. ::She faced the boy again, now getting help.:: I hope he pulls through.. He's too innocent to fall prey like that..

DarkDestiny - April 23, 2004 03:55 AM (GMT)
"It's May 1st." Kitty had replied then folded her front paws over each other and rested her head on them. After some time had passed a group of three with the doctor had rushed in one of them looking very mangled. Her damage analysis indicated a blunt object as well as some pointed objects as the cause. Security was her job after all, so she knew what caused what kind of damage. The doctor went to work quickly and with much energy. Kitty decided not to ask one of the others what it was about. It was none of her business anyway. She politely turned her head away. When the other robot asked her what the cause of damage was she shrugged her shoulders and stated. "I would guess a pipe by some of the half cylinder indents, and knives, dull ones, by the cuts and the way some of the wires were cut and almost cut." She spoke softly trying not to bother the others.

Hokage - April 23, 2004 07:18 PM (GMT)
Ben frowned slightly, and answered,
"Yes, I wish this situation hadn't occured. If people weren't so stubborn, humans and androids could get along just fine."
After stating this, he looked down at his arm. It looked fairly normal, but it was not. Moving his fingers he could hear the faint sound of gears, and the mechanical objects being put to work.
Where could he be placed in this?
