Arena decided by Contestant Sean: ~A platform in the middle of a nameless pillar sways slowly in the gusts of air and dust. Rusted chains from each end groan with each movement of the circular disk. There is little area to hide here, and only a black nothing stretches below

Winner of coin toss: Heather, chooses Matt to post first.

The barren arena Von had been tossed into was worse than the last two he had faced. Before each match, he was left to experience the utter terror of observing his surroundings, picking out each and every pointed surface, each threat to his own life. With such an empty site, Von could not keep his mind occupied with his potential dangers. He was forced to focus upon the core of his fears, the question that he avoided before each battle. The internal dispute whether he could trust himself, whether he and nobody else, could protect his thriving heartbeat.

It was true, that aside from something so simple, he did not have anything else to fight for. His mother had been killed, and his father had abandoned him. If he wished to defend a cause, it was his own possible legacy.

Von had spent the bulk of his life training. For revenge, mostly. With the emotion of fury shrouding him, he had been blind to the other factors. He had been aware of the blindfold that had covered his eyes for so many years, and he embraced it, making it his only true companion. When the moment of truth had finally come, and Von had the opportunity to use his built up anger to take the lives of others, he felt himself begin to erode. The thought of dying had been seen as an honorable thing to him, but now it had only appeared as an easy way out. There was so much more Von had not experienced, and because of that, he was left with emptiness. There was more to live for than the grudges he had constructed for himself to follow by! A life intertwined with hatred wasn’t a life at all.

He stared into the abyss of blackness over the corner of his platform and promised himself he would live through this match and return home to continue his life, free of his pain. Now, he did not fight for the chance to kill his father, or “kill” in general. Von fought for himself, and for the peaceful life that beckoned him on the other side of the road. The opponent that he would fight was not his true enemy. This fight was against his own self, something he had avoided tending to for a long time.

Swathed in a layer of sweat, Von readied his grasp upon his dagger. A turning point was coming upon him, and he was ready for it.

Kael found himself once more on the field of battle. But for truly the first time he felt himself ill prepared mentally for what he had no choice but to do. He knew what would happen if he once again put his heart in to this battle. He could feel it along the edges, desiring the blood, the violence. The overwhelming pit of darkness. Yet he had no choice.
How else would he bring his mother back? He felt his chances slipping away, and silently cursed whatever had led him to this place... Then realized it was his own desire for vengeance. The only one he could curse was himself.
But it seemed the fates had already done so for him.

He couldn't trust his own anger.. his own emotions. Nothing was safe, no course not
scattered with pitfalls of his own creation. So he drew his mother's gift, her twin sais, and felt their reassuring pulse of warmth. It was for her he had to fight, so he would do so with her weapons, with her strength. His robe fell away leaving him without any bindings, but the ones he had forced upon himself. His eyes narrowed, his ears perked. He caught his foe's scent, then with out another sound charged forward daggers out at his foe.

Von caught a glance at the creature advancing towards him. It's appearence startled him, for he'd never seen something quite like it before. Without letting it cause any more falter, he darted out from his opponent's path.
As he began to play the angle game, he thrusted his dagger foward. It sailed silently through the musty air of the arena, it's blade aimed perfectly towards the side of Kael's head.

'Please, let me leave here with ease,' He silently pleaded.

His opponent shifted away from him with speed, as he expected. It would be far to wonderful for his opponent to simply allow himself to be defeated so easily. Still he could feel the shift in the wind as his opponent moved, and hear the dagger rushing towards his head. With ease and speed he ducked his head out of its path, and sent his own right hand blade upwards toward his opponents arm, then twisted around sending his left sai toward his opponents side.

Von was engulfed in sudden panic. Although he felt he had preferred it, close range was no doubt something that he had a terrible problem with. Collecting a bundle of energy within the end of his forearm, he forced an explosion outward, toward the sai that was directed at his arm. It was enough to deflect it for the mere moment he had needed; with the powerful shockwave it caused.
Even so, Von had not escaped from his dangers. The second sai in the second hand had been charging towards his rips, an area that meant a gracious amount more than his arm!
"D-damnit!" Von hollered, sputtering out his frustration in the form of a jumbled word.
He dipped sideways, his entire upper torso bending as far to the opposite side as it had been able. The tip of the blade slid along the skin of Von's side, creating a neat line of emerging blood. It was more so than Von had hoped for, but as least his entire inards were not sliding out from the wound.
Leaping backwards to gain a comfortable distance, Von waited for his opponent's next move, in a huff drowned in the influence of adrenaline.

The burst of energy had pushed his first sai downward, and even singed his hand a little, but it had not stopped his second, and although the blow had not felt too much resistance, meaning a shallow hit, the hot metallic scent of blood had filled the air in it's own form of a blow. Kaels ears went back as his opponet lept away. The scent of blood.. was intoxicating. The hunger solidified in his gut and demanded more. More blood more pain. The worst part of it was despite every last instinct in him screaming to deny it what it wanted.. he had no choice. He had to fight.
He turned to his foe emotions churning through him. He had no choice, but that didn't mean he had to drag it out.. and despite the fact that close combat was the least risky of his options.. it would probably lengthening the time of the fight. his opponent was just as fast as him, and seemingly as nimble. The last thing he wanted was to give the beast inside him a long battle filled with shallow blows spilling a lot of blood. That left only his magic. Did he dare trust his own powers? The black fire.. was so tainted. was there any white fire left? There was only one way to find out. He closed his eyes and found his anger, hot and ready for the touch. It was frustration. Frustration that his hand was forced, that he had given in to the worst of himself, that he could fail after coming so far. White hot it sprang in to his eyes, as pure as snow, and it engulfed his hands as well. He smiled then with fangs. Then the center of his flames became pitch black... and the flames in his eyes did as well. His anger intensified a hundred fold.
"NO!" He growled clenched his hands tight around his sais, then threw three white balls of fire with black centers at his opponent. He then charged after them himself at his opponent.

With an enemy that had the ability to launch such a massive attack in short time, Von was fully aware this fight would challenge him to the extent of his capabilities. As the three spheres of abnormal-colored flame stormed towards him, he felt the hair on his neck stand rigid. They seemed unable to dodge, but he knew there was no other choice but to try.
He wanted to continue onward with his life in Midard, and find his true path that he'd never searched for. If he found that, than any damage that would be inflicted on him would be worth it.

He began his evade, retreating to his side, just allowing the flame to skim along his upper arm. It only singed for a moment, for the pain was almost immediatly replaced with the third ball of fire ramming into the center of Von's chest. The air exploded out from his grasp, and he began to heave for the inhale that he suddenly begged for. As he had done so, his body was tossed backwards, just to the edge of the arena.
Von climbed to his knees, with only a blurry version of a figure in movement from the corner of his eye. A bead of bright red blood fell from his lip. He caught his breath, and allowed the anger to take him to his feet. If it was going to be the anger that would assist him, he would allow it. What he could not allow, was the anger to dominate him.
On his wobbling feet, Von charged foward, straight towards his already running opponent. Both arms ignited with burning solar energy, he turned the crying he had wanted into a scream for the death of the creature that had caused it.

Kael felt a surge of real joy, twisted slightly with dark passion. He had scored a direct hit on his opponent to the chest, and the scent of burt flesh filled the air as well as pain. It was almost a physically relief that this new opponent actually could be touched, could be burned. He didn't even have to give in to the taint to achieve it, even if it's presence had showed up regardless. Still he had fight to control the twitching at the base of his claws and the ache in his fangs. They longed to grow, to sink deep, to draw blood. He viscously clamped back tightening his fists around his sais, and gritting his teeth.
His opponent recovered remarkably well, his arms bursting with some sort of energy. He let out a scream of rage and death lust strikingly similar to what Kael was feeling. The scream echoed in his own chest, in his throat, and he barely choked a returning howl off. Maintaining his charge he waited till his opponent was mere feet from him before surging suddenly upward in to a flip high over his opponent, and out of the reach of his burning arms. he landed behind his opponent and did a sweeping kick aiming for the back of his leg lashing out with a sai slash at where he was most likely to fall.

So much was happening in such a short amount of time. Von knew his life could mean a few seconds, but when it physically came down to this fact, he was almost totally unaware of how to go about handling it. He could only control his body to a certain extent, which he discovered, as his legs folded beneath him.
The kick his opponent had swung was a powerful one, as well as lightning fast. The shin of the creature had collided with Von's calf viciously, as if a tiger's claws had swiped it out from his own control. Von felt his body begin to fall backward, but knew he could not allow it to continue. He could feel the presence of the daggers behind him, ready to strike.
If Von wished to live, which he did, he would have to disarm his enemy of his weapons. Hand-to-hand was tough for him, but he was positive it would be impossible to fight against while the enemy was in control of two skin-carving tools.
Von bit his lip, and ignited his brain's senses. As his body plummeted, Von allowed his palm to make direct contact with the ground. It took the brunt of his body's dead weight, leaving Von in pain as the wrist began to give out. His other hand assisted it, by falling slightly to the back. This set-up gave him the perfect chance to escape the clutches of the diving sai points. His body swung along itself, rolling through the air in a circular motion, allowing himself to bounce upward, landing on the more flexible balls of his feet.
Von's palm shot outward, just beside the charging sai. His forearm whipped sideways to throw the enemys arm off, and allowing his other hand to arrive just a few inches from his chest. The hand suddenly ignited in an orange blur, he forced the energy to combust, firing a blast of burning heat towards the chest of his opponent.

Silently Kael cursed as his foe avoided the blow that could have finished the fight or at least made it end much more rapidly. His opponent knocked his arm away, and as an automatic response kael twisted with the blow bringing his other sai around slashing his opponents arm as it surged toward his chest. Despite his intense reaction, it was not enough to stop the explosion of energy from his opponents palm. Kael was sent flying backwards but recovered, remaining on his feet, despite the intense burning pain. He panted slightly his eyes going dark, flashes of red popping in and out of them. The burning raged across his chest... and reached in to his heart where a similar pain awoke from its light slumber. His mind went numb with the black heat of it the coal black rage. It was awake. That one would dare attempt to burn him.. He who was fire.. His fangs lengthened as well as his claws tightly wrapped around his sais as they were. the fur on his ears and tail darkened as if being burnt.
"huuurk.." he managed as instincts began to take over. "You.. Huuuurk.. shouldn't.. have.. huurk.. done.. that." Black fire exploded from his eyes and claws. He flung his sais across the arena and they landed imbedded to the hilt by his cloak. His several inches long claws were now all the blades he needed. In the flash of burning pain his attempts at resistance had been swept away as its desire for vengeance, and self protection over took him. The tainted energy coursed through him giving him unnatural strength that burned. Like a bolt of lightning he flew across the arena at his opponent flinging several pitch-black fire balls of a heat far more intense then his first round.

Von was frightened, more so than he had ever found himself. He was exhausted, and this led him to doubt his abilities. He wanted to win, but this may not have been his right option. Just living was enough, for that's what he truly yearned for.
"Please!" Von screamed. The darkened flames approached with intense speed.
He ducked just in time, but he felt himself reach past his limit. His throat was coarse with the hot gasps he took in, and his stomach felt as though it would overturn. The solar energy was depleted within him, he had not absorbed enough to fully aid him.
"Listen, I understand you are furious, but why don't we consider it a draw! We will both leave in pain, but with life! Please, control yourself, and allow me to leave here! I do not wish to harm you, I just wish to live!"
Von's words were drowned in truth. His opponent had changed, and Von had a bad feeling there was no turning back. Taking his backup way out could be harmful in the end, and even if it allowed him to win the match in a breathing state, that did not mean he would last that way.

((I am sorry if this is over the limit, but i was not sure about what was happening due to Bate's hiatus. Now that I know for sure he wants gen fights to keep going I shall not let it happen again.))
The intense pain of his burn was numbed from with in and he kept focused on his goal.
"Please!" His opponent begged.
"Listen, I understand you are furious, but why don't we consider it a draw! We will both leave in pain, but with life! Please, control yourself, and allow me to leave here! I do not wish to harm you, I just wish to live!" The words were meaningless and pointless, so infuriated was kael, and the little kernel of logic that did peek through only reminded him that, A at the end of the duel all damage including death was removed, B there could be no such thing as a "draw", and C if his opponent had no wish to harm him he would not have launched him across the arena with an explosion.
He reached his opponent with a round house kick following up with a barrage of punches aimed at the gut and face, and ending with another fire ball at close range aimed toward his chest.

Billy Shears - March 20, 2005 11:09 PM (GMT)
Von responded just as he almost always had. He managed to block to kick, but took the full blow of the flurry of fists. He tumbled, straight onto his back. As he fell, the sphere of flames skipped over his chest, rolling lightly across him. It was lucky he had fallen, because he was sure he couldn't take a direct blow a second time.
He felt his lungs beating outward and inward at a quicker rate than he had ever experienced. He wanted to back down, he wanted to leap off the edge of the arena and hope for the best.
"Damnit." He muttered, rolling out of the reach of Kael for the time being.
His solar energy had sadly not been a main option, and his physical strength was weakening by the second. Luckily, as Von scanned the area, he was joyous to find his dagger just adjacent to his foot. Frantically scooping it up, he held it ready within his fist.
"You could have made this easier, for both of us." Von warned, as he jutted foward.
The dagger came straight outward, towards Kael's chest. Using the last miniscule remnants of his solar powers, he heated up his arm to prevent his opponent from blocking it. He readied his back leg to sweep Kael if his first attack had failed.

He had felt the solid flesh beneath his fists and it had felt good. He failed to finish his foe off, and he had rolled out of reach. Kael didn't care, his lust for blood, and violence remained only slightly quenched and the pain of his chest burn kept him from regaining control. His foe had managed to snatch his dagger back up and began to attack
"You could have made this easier, for both of us." Said his foe and Kael merely sneered. His foe made an all out direct attack for his chest heating his arm up. Kael's sneer increased at such a unsubtle attack. As his foe came with in reach he shot his arm out, and dug his several inch long claws into his foes wrist. The heat was such that his fingers burned, but it was manageable. He used his foes forward momentum, and twisted throwing his opponent away. He then fired one more ball of fire at his foes moving form.

Von shut his eyelids tight and allowed his body to flip-flop through the air. His opponent tossed him, and the fireballs began their dreadful impact. The power of the flames sent Von even farther, throwing his body like a rag-doll. Blood dripped from his wrist, and his entire body had stung with horrid burns. Finally, he came plowing into the ground, feeling as though he had shattered like glass.
He weakly re-opened his eyes, finding himself just on the edge of the arena, once again. He was glad to find he had not been gasping for air, but the intense amounts of pain made up for it. He crawled to his knees, and vomited. The world was spinning, he felt as though his body had fallen to a complete dull numb.
Kael was simply to powerful, and his arsenal attacks was too ranged for Von to keep up with. There seemed to be nothing left for Von, except for a frantic thrash to hold the life he had left in him.
He wobbled slightly, as he stood. His top was singed on all ends, and torn in several places. It looked as though he was wearing rough strips of material over his shoulders. He removed the remains of his clothing, and took a horrified glance at the mix of bright red and charred skin upon his chest. It had forced him to gag again; he held down the vomit this time around.
"I hate you." He gnarled, wiping the blood that bordered his lips.
He remained standing, hunched over in agony. He could only defend himself for a short time longer, and his fear was building because of it.

The sight of his opponent flying across the arena crunching and flopping like a thrown away rage doll was extremely satisfying. The scent of charred flesh and blood filled the air, and it made him almost dizzy with pleasure. He wanted to roast this pathetic fool who had dared to attack him in such away alive. Control and thoughts of holding off the taint were far off and distant, almost like another person whispering faintly in his ear. A person he ignored. He was starving now for it. Starving for the blood and the gore and death. The faint tastes of it his foe had given him were not enough. He did not transform in to the beast.. because it was not necessary in his twisted mind.
"I hate you." Said his foe, and his sneer turned in to a fanged grin. for a moment a set of yellow eyes rimmed with red appeared on his forehead as he said
"Good. hatred is what I live for." they then disappeared as he walked calmly slowly across the arena a grin like that of a Cheshire cat plastered on his face. as he walked black fire engulfed his hands again and he took two shots. One fireball aimed at each of his foes legs.

Billy Shears - March 24, 2005 03:51 AM (GMT)
Von was sick with sadness. Sadness caused by close defeat, sadness caused by the fear for his dunking life, and sadness caused by the damned darkness that surrounded him. If there was only the slightest bit of compatible energy in the room, he could save himself and suceed!
That's when it hit him. Although it had not been pure solar energy, it was close enough to what he had needed. The black flames had erupted within the palms of his enemy. Their eerie threatening aura had become an ambience of hope! He felt the life flow back into him. He didn't have to contemplate how he would take the hit of the flames, because they had suddenly become his savior!
They approached his legs at a blurring speed, Von eyed them with excitement. He acted upon the milisecond, and bent downward, taking the burning heat into the outsides of his forearms. For a mere moment they began to singe his arm hairs, but the sudden pain was replaced by the glorious feeling of energy shooting through his entire body. At last! He had felt prepared to fight!
Ignoring the unusual grinding feeling within his upper arms, he charged foward. A front kick shot out with the flick of his waist, his back hand blocked his face. The arm that had been placed farther foward was held at his hip, and it swung upward towards the chin of Kael.
A giggle hopped from his throat.

To kaels shock the man absorbed his black fire. Yet to his dark joy he absorbed their dark taint as well. He could feel his own darkness flowing through his enemies body as it had once flowed through the ice arena from his last fight.

Kael could not control his emotions, could not control his transformation, and could not control his plunge in to darkness... but he could control his tainted energy once it was outside his body.

He saw the kick coming and grabbed it, in the process taking the punch to his chin. A flash of pain thudded in to him but he embraced it. Let it infuriate him further giving him a dark clarity. He sunk his claws deep in to his opponents leg trapping him. And then smiling a grin with inch long fangs he said in a voice rich with contempt "Thank you. You just made the task of obliterating you much, much easier." He focused on his energy circulating through his foes body, and concentrated it, forcing it to flow directly to his opponents heart. Then he turned it toxic.

Billy Shears - March 25, 2005 07:29 PM (GMT)
The imbalance between being delighted and devastated was cutting Von's brain in two. His situation had gone from a position of seesawing, to utter misfortune. His frown bent downwards to the point where his cheek muscles were in pain. The unusual sensation within his arms had grown, and spread. He felt as though his body was shutting down. His five senses had slowed to the point where he had felt time stopped.
His enemy was right before him, but bringing out any movement had felt as though it was a task three times harder to accomplish. The bite in his leg had stung beyond a the simple wound it was. Darkness engulfed his inards, and he was aware of it. He had been so boggled, he had felt his fear begin to numb.
He was screaming within his head, unable to express it verbally. His eyes began to shut closed, but he wouldn't allow himself to go down without some form of vengence. He clenched his fist tight, as much as he could manage.
He felt the slightest bit of solar energy left within him, just whisps that bounced around within him. If he could conjure them, and focus them..
His palm clasped onto the chest of Kael, just as he felt his legs begin to give out. The heat forced its way through his arm, inching its way foward weakly. Finally, he found it at his wrist, and concentrated it. The energy combusted outward; a simple attack that had allowed Von to put force through the blast without wasting much stored energy.
With his last breath, Von watched the flames begin to burn. If they made it to the heart, he did not know. His eyelids locked closed, and his body began to shake with emptiness. He could have sworn he absorbed the smell of charred flesh through his nostrils, but he wasn't sure of anything anymore.
What had waited for him on the other side was unknown to him, but he had not feared it. He had decided in the first few moments of the match; a turning point was upon him, and he was ready for it.

Kael's tainted energy had coursed through his foe outlining every nuance of his system, Kael felt each pulse of blood, the contraction of his every muscle, better then he could have felt his own. He felt his foes death in an exquisitely painful way, like he himself was dying. In that moment it was what he wanted above all things, and it almost filled the hunger in him. His foe reached out to his chest in a way that was to him slow beyond measure. He felt his foe trying to focus what little of the untainted energy was left to him. He felt it course through his foes arm and knew at once what he was trying to do. Like lightning he ripped his claws from his foe's leg, yet it too seemed in slow motion. his claws reached his foes wrist just as the energy peaked. His foe released it just as Kael pushed his foes arm with his hand and twisted his body. The flames shot forth burning again across his chest and shoulder, burning of another layer of skin and muscle, a serious possibly fatal wound if left unattended. As such he screamed with the agony of it and at the same time the pleasure of his foes spirit passing through the gate of death. Yet the pleasure evaporated in the agony of the burning. The torment in his soul brought in to the physical realm brought him to his knees. He tasted his own black blood in his mouth, as the world spun around him. Mindless, his whole body burning like nothing he had ever felt before, something in him stirred. His vision became red the color of blood. his body shifted back to it's most human form. His vision flashed and suddenly in front of him stood a man. A man he had never seen before. Suddenly the voice in his head spoke, but for the first time it spoke in his own language. "Kael Fire Destiny, My own one, My son." The man with hair pale blue almost silver, and two sets of ears stepped forward. He was mostly shrouded in darkness and although kael could see most of his head his face was obscured.
"A little more son... the gate is almost open." The man reached out a pale clawed hand and touched Kael's head. Intense pain lanced through his head, with one word spoken by a voice not his own,
"NO!" and then all was blackness.
