According to the model of the Geno Saurer I have, it is most definately in the chest but I don't have the Dark Spiner model, however, it appears to be in the head.

It is in the head according to the model kit. See bottom row, near center picture.

Seeing as the Dark Spiner can actually run, I'd say it's a decent jumper as far as zoids can go. It's own body height is what I'd cap it off at.
