Title: The Western Continent War
Description: Detailed History of Zi Page 3

Mary - June 8, 2004 07:11 AM (GMT)
After the great disaster from above the people of Zi struggled to survive and could hardly care for such irrelevant things as war. The Guylos Empire and Helic Republic were completely devestated militarily.

And so it was for 40 years after the great distaster of the comet that peace remained on Planet Zi between the Republic and the Empire.

To end the war decisively, the Guylos Empire sent a force to the Western Continent to conduct a surprise attack. Because the Triangle Daras was an ocean area with a very strong magnetic field, it could not be crossed. That was why the Empire's forces decided to start by attacking the Western Continent. Realizing this, the Republic also sent forces to the Western Continent. The eastern and western sides of Europa were controlled by the Republic's and Empire's forces, respectively. The Merukuriusu lake is situated at the middle-southern part of the Western Continent. In the middle of the lake sits the mountain Olympus which is the highest mountain in the Western Continent and can overlook the whole continent. The battle to occupy this mountain began.

However, the Helic Republic's forces were no match for the Guylos Empire's forces which had been preparing for this war for years. Within only one week, the Republic's frontline forces were in deep trouble. Both forces wanted to occupy the strategically situated Olympus Mountain. In the initial battle, the Republic's forces lost badly as they did not have any machines that could defeat the Empire's all weather machine EZ-015 Iron Kong. This huge machine is able to engage in both hand-to-hand combat and shoot-out combat. Even with their rapid attack troops, Shield Liger and Command Wolf, sent in, the Republic could hardly maintain their front line positions. To make the situation even worse, the Imperial forces sent in their bright red Zoid machine, the EZ-016 Saber Tiger. Saber Tiger is able to match Shield Liger in terms of performance despite being an older model. Even with the Cannon Tortoise force supporting them from long range the Helic Republic could hardly stand up to the Empire's vicious initial assault.

In little time though the battle shifted and the Helic Republic managed to gain the upper hand at Olympus Mountain. So, the Imperial Army, having lost it's strategic position at Olympus Mountain, decided to carry out it's next plan to use ancient Zoidian technology to resurrect an old and powerful Zoid, Death Saurer. The high speed stealth machine EZ-023 Helcat, well suited for mountain battles, was tasked to guard the ruins. In order to divert attention away from this plan, the Imperial army continued to pressure the Republic's front line. However the attacks in the desert and forests all ended up in failure because of the Helic Republic's RZ-020 Stealth Viper.

One month after the battle at Olympus Mountain started, the Helic Republic's Double Sworder scout troops reported that Olympus Mountain had been re-taken by the Imperial forces. This was the last straw. The Republic's forces had to withdraw from the region as soon as possible or face a complete defeat. The Republic's forces began to retreat eastwards. However, in the ensuing confusion, there were some Zoid machines that headed west instead. These were Shield Liger forces that had been given a special mission. In addition to bringing the information that Olympus Mountain had been taken by the Imperial forces, the Double Sworder scout troops brought back another piece of information: that the Imperial forces were bringing big Zoid machines to the ruins at the top of the mountain. Shield Liger Force's mission was to find out whether this was true. On the western continent, there were many ruins belonging to an old civilization. Most of the artifacts were in such a bad state that they could not be analyzed any longer. However, it was clear that the old civilization had technology that surpassed modern technology. If the Imperial forces managed to resurrect the old civilization and use its technology in the military arena, the consequences would be unimaginable. Under the cover of night, Shield Liger Force broke through the enemy's front lines and headed for the mountain top. On the way, they were discovered by the Empire's patrol forces. After a few battles, less than half the Force was left. The pilots who managed to survive and reach the mountain top finally saw the gigantic Zoid: Death Saurer. During the era of the Central Continent war, this dinosaur monster Zoid was invincible. This monster Zoid had the power to wipe out a whole Gojulas force, widely acknowledged to be the most powerful Zoid at that time. If this monster Zoid was resurrected, not only would the western continent be under the Empire's control, even the Republic's homeland, the Central Continent, would be occupied by the Imperial forces. The commanding officer of Shield Liger Force decided to throw all his surviving Zoids into battle in order to stop the resurrection of the monster Zoid. However, the brave commanding officer did not know that although Death Saurer was not complete at the moment, it had already been resurrected to a state where it was ready for battle. The incomplete Death Saurer wiped out the entire force of Shield Ligers.

The first battle between the Empire and Republic's forces in Northern Europa ended in the Empire's overwhelming victory. The remainder of the Republic's forces retreated to the forest in the eastern end of the continent and conducted guerilla warfare. On the other hand, the Empire made some mistakes in its war plans. In its haste to conduct fast attacks, it overstretched its supply line and thus had to stop its attacks temporarily. The second mistake was that it was blocked by the Republic's forces in its attempt to use the technology found in the ruins of the old civilization to resurrect Death Saurer. Their third and final mistake was that they pushed the Republic forces right back to the coast and that many of the Empire zoids were confounded by the guerilla warfare due to their inability to move thorugh the vegetation. Not permitting any delay in the advance, the Empire HQ decided to send in two new Zoids: Geno Saurer and Rev Raptor. The tasks given to these Zoids was to find and control the ruins of the ancient Zoidian civilization and to fight in the frontlines. These two Zoids encompass the new Organoid system deciphered by the Empire's technology team and are far more agile and deadlier than previous models.

The battle for northern Europa began to tilt in the Republic's favor as they gained aerial supremacy with the advent of their own organoid-system equipped zoid, the Storm Sworder. They used their aerial supremecy to help their guerrilla forces on the ground devestate the Empire's supply routes. The Republic's HQ wanted to exploit this opportunity fully and decided to send in its strongest Zoid force including such Zoids as the Shield Liger DCS-J Leomaster. The transport ships headed for Europa. However, the Empire's scout troops had already gathered this info. Under the Deldaros sea, the Empire's zoids, the Sinker Forces, waited to attack the Republic's transport ships.

At northern Europa, the second battle between the armies of the Guylos Empire and Helic Republic finally began. The Guylos Empire's army began attacking the Republic's army that had just landed. From the front, PK armoured forces spearheaded the attack. From the sea at the rear, Brachios, Heldigunner and Sinker naval forces closed in on the Republic's forces. Although the Empire was very confident of its naval power, it had made the wrong judgment this time. This was because the Republic was equipped with the newest sea-air Zoid: Hammerhead. Hammerhead forces destroyed the Empire's naval forces very quickly. Over on land, the Republic's main Zoid force prepared for a big counterattack.

And so that's how the beginning of the Western Continent War played out. Although the Guylos Empire initially had the upper hand, the balance had begun to tilt towards the Republic with the Republic's successful counterattack. The Republic's armies managed to break through the central part of the continent and advanced to as close as 1000 kilometers away from the Empire's most important base, Nikushi base. However, if the numerically superior Imperial forces were able to regroup, the balance of power would tilt towards them again. Time was the essence of this war. A short war would favor the Republic, while in a long war the Empire would win. To win the war quickly, the Republic forces decided to send one Zoid, the Ultrasaur, into the battlefield. It is the President's Zoid, the symbol of the Republic. The mission of this Zoid is to attack the stronghold of the empire with its 1200mm Ultra Cannon. The cannon was developed by the Republic's technical department and is so powerful that it can decimate an entire city with just one strike. Its range is 100 kilometers.

In the ensuing battle the Destroyer Force, with the Ultrasaurs at it's center, attempted to break through the final defense of the Empire, including the Geno Breaker and the Death Stinger. With strengthened Zoids and superior firepower and range, the Helic Republic's Destroyer Force broke through the Empire's defenses and began the attack on the Nikushi base itself. Finally, the Empire HQ decided to retreat from the Western Continent Europa. However, the Republic's forces were still threatening the Nikushi base and someone had to hold them off as the other forces retreated. A volunteer force was formed but it only consisted of 100 zoids, hopeless compared to Republic's forces of more than 5000 zoids. However the morale of the volunteer corps is high. The machines they are using are the mightly Elephanders afterall.

And so, with the Empire's retreat across the sea to the Dark Continent and the inevitable defeat of the Elephanders at the Nikushi base the war on the western continent Europa ended in the Republic's victory.

Sadly, this would not be the end of the Helic-Guylos conflict.
