Recently (like, today) British intelligence forces stepped in and it looks like they've put a stop to a terrorist plot to blow up several planes using liquid explosives in their carry-on luggage. There was no real danger, as the plot was stopped before they even reached the planes, but the warning is pretty clear.
It ain't over yet.
So, naturally, there's some safety precautions they're taking. Them and us. Only absolutely essential liquids and gels can be taken on a plane, now, and the threat level for aviation has reached critical. But, in the immortal words of the HHG^G, Don't Panic. We've got some pretty competent folks at work, albeit not enough of them, and things are going to go over rather smoothly. Unless someone screws up. In which case we're going to have yet another reason to stomp them crazies.
I don' care if it's not politically correct to call Al Qaeda spin-offs crazy. Them there folks be nutty. They're more bonkers than a mechanical mole in a certain game involving highly energetic kiddies, a mallet, and said mechanical mole. We don't know yet if these guys are Al Qaeda, but reports have them as being mostly British citizens.
That makes me chuckle, especially if they turn out to be just average-looking blokes. Or gals. And make me a little nervous, too. Reminds me of the Commie scares of the fifties. You never know who could be One Of Them. Good that the Brits are doing their part, though. I can think of a half-dozen countries offhand that would just as soon let the terrorists go.
Lebanon, China, Saudi Arabia, Iran, Kuwait, and anywhere in Africa. See? Half-dozen countries. More, if I were to bother listing off some African countries.
Don't know why they're not working over there. Seems it would make more sense to work with our enemies, wouldn't it? There must be something else at work, possibly a morale type deal. They may want to sow the very paranoia I mentioned.
Or they could just be madder than a hatter. Who knows?
This rattled me a little considering I flew out of London-Gatwick two days ago. Just something to think about.
Major props to the UK - damn good showing, gents. Again, the best thing we can all do is keep a level head about this sort of thing.
Indeed. That goes on more than one level; I don't want this turning into a discussion about the war in general, 'cause that's just uncivilized and off-topic.
And yes, I did put this in my post on my journal on EoRPGs. I went on in a different direction afterwards, though.
