Designed to work with the Liger Zero Jaeger MKII and other scout zoids, this modification grants the Elephander access to many missiles. Several segments of the armor are replaced with pop-up missile boxes, sacrificing a good deal of armor protection for the ability to rain death upon the opponents. There is one eight-tube box on each shoulder, one on each ankle, two on each hip, and four four-tube boxes on each flank. Each has two missiles available to it, but they have the slow reload time of six seconds each. The total number of missiles per turn is ninety-six. The missiles arc out and home in on a target using radar locks. Fortunately for the other guys, it takes three seconds to achieve a target lock, and the missiles aren’t very useful against targets up close and personal.
These are micro-missiles, meaning they have one-third the size and power of an ordinary missile. They fire based entirely upon data from the firing zoid, requiring it to stand still and guide the missile formation.
Yes, formation. These missiles literally form up into a wedge-shaped phalanx, with the pilot controlling through two lead missiles in the eight-shot pods -- the eight-shot pods have two phalanxes each -- or one lead missile in the four-shot pods. The lead missile is at the front of the wedge. If the lead missiles get taken out, the phalanx scatters and goes for the nearest viable target. There are a total of twenty-four phalanxes. The pilot can control their direction and speed, allowing him to strike individual parts on the zoid. Skilled pilots can control up to four phalanxes, and the system allows him to slave phalanxes to each other, to a total of all of the missiles in one phalanx.
This system is basically fly-by-wire on crack.
