DV-006Z Static Capacitance Unit (SCU)
Price: $25,000
Equips to:
Molga (internally mounted in rear of thorax behind wheels, conduits run from front of head along "spine" to tail stingers)
Brachios (internally mounted in chest behind impact cannon, conduits run from head and teeth, down neck and across back to tail along spine)
Black Rhimos (internally mounted in chest, conduits run from horn along shoulders to hips)
Saicurtis (Mounts in front of thruster bank under wing covers, electrodes run through proboscis up to "horn" and to each wing cover)
This part was developed by the fine folks at diVossi Industries for a few Zoids that fulfilled certain criteria. First, all three were rather lacking in the melee department, with a slight exception for the Black Rhimos. Second, all three had low-slung, quadru- or multi-pedal bodies. Third, each one had potential to ram an enemy at a decent speed.
Essentially, the SCU is a small energy-collection unit which feeds into a series of electrical capacitors. Simple, reliable, and effective. The reason it can be mounted only to these few Zoids is that their low-slung bodies, particularly the Molga, have immense potential to generate static electricity from contact with the ground. Think of it as a vastly magnified version of a person shuffling their feet across the carpet, building up a charge. The charge takes the Brachios one round at full speed, the Rhimos four seconds at full speed, and the Molga, thanks to not only its wheels, but its caterpillar body and many corresponding legs, takes a mere three seconds to build up enough charge. The Saicurtis takes about three and a half seconds, but it must be running along the ground, not flying. Once charged, though, the Saicurtis can take off and carry the spark around in its capacitor banks. The system dissipates any electricity beyond that back into the ground, permitting one set amount of charge to be stored.
However, the magic of this unit is when the charged Zoid comes in contact with an enemy. See, the capacitors are hooked into a series of electrodes running from the forward section of the Zoid (the business end, where it rams, or bites, in the case of the Brachios) down along the back and to Zoid-specific mounting spots. On the Molga, the small protrusion on its ramming shell contains the electrodes, down along the spine, extending to the tail stingers. The Brachios' teeth are charged, as is its neck (to discourage melee attacks to it), down the spine and to the tail. The Rhimos, however, receives a nose electrode just before the horn, to transfer the shock when the horn is inside the enemy, as well as a branching set of conduits that run to each shoulder and hip. The Saicurtis' horn and long proboscis receive electrodes, as well as each wing cover, running down the spine.
Once the Zoid is charged and an electrode somehow conducts, a huge spark akin to a static shock on crack jumps to the victim, transferring three seconds' worth of shock damage instantly, and stalling the enemy for a few seconds. It does a decent amount of damage where the spark enters, as well, and has a chance to fry any wiring hit.
