Title: ZU-05 Command Wolf UCT Upgrade Package

Silberner Falkestern - December 6, 2005 01:09 AM (GMT)
Designation: ZU-05
Zoid For: Command Wolf (not IC)
Cost: 35,000

During the old war, Helic officials needed a tough but cheap Zoid to guard the bigger cities, a Zoid designed specifically for urban combat. Drawing from their supplies of Command Wolves, the scientists for the Helic Republic designed this, the Command Wolf Urban Combat Type, nickname Juggernaut. The Juggernaut is more heavily armoured than the normal Command Wolf, and is designed to fight in close quarters, with enhanced physical strength thanks to new stabilizers. Speed has been reduced a little, but in a city, you don't want to be travelling too fast anyway. For those after something with a lot of power in a small package, the ZBC released a slightly redesigned Juggernaut package to upgrade the Command Wolf.

Armor Description:
This upgrade to the Command Wolf more than makes up for the lack of armour on the original. New armour, matching the strength of a Heldigunner’s armour, covers the entire Wolf, including the previously unarmoured legs. Now the shoulders, hips and thighs all sport a double layer of armour, and the structure has been improved too, to handle the weight of the mortar pods and armour. Another addition to the UCT is an armoured roll cage that adds some extra protection to the cockpit and canopy.

Mobility and Power Source:
The Command Wolf Urban Combat Type is very similar to the normal Command Wolf, simply because it is incredibly hard to tire out. Even with all the added weight it must haul, the Command Wolf UCT can handle running for periods of time far longer than most Zoids. Again like the normal Command Wolf, even continuous firing of the Beam Cannons will not tire it out, but usage of the Electron Fang will. However, being a whole lot more top-heavy than the original Wolf, this Wolf loses a moderate amount of its agility for firepower.

Electron Bite Fangs
Rows of razor-sharp alloy teeth line the Command Wolf's strong jaws. They can be charged up with electric energy for a lot of shocking electrical damage to go along with the physical damage. Generally used as a last resort, this equipment delivers quite a drain to the Command Wolf's energy supply. Be careful when you're using this, as the Command Wolf doesn't really have the stamina to take much damage if it is caught stalled out.

Strike Claw x4
The claws of the Command Wolf remain the same, but given the new eight tons of weight that sit on top of the Command Wolf, these claws can be fairly difficult to use. Once you’re on top of something though, the extra weight actually increases the effectiveness of these Strike Claws.

AZ50mm double-barreled Beam Cannon
These are the normal Beam Cannons of a Command Wolf, mounted into a new spot. This cannon is mounted in the middle of the bracket that holds the mortar pods, and as such can only fire directly ahead, but is now set much higher, and so can pivot up and down roughly 45 degrees.  Despite the low caliber, they fire fairly quickly, at a rate of three shots per second each, and are accurate out to a range of 900 meters. They're not sniper cannons, but they're more accurate than most weaponry.

8-Rocket Pod x2
Mounted at the back of the jaw, on either side of the cockpit, is a small pod that contains eight tubes, which each containing a single rocket. Upon command, the rockets will dumbfire in any direction the Wolf is looking, accelerating much faster than any normal missile could, and packing a larger warhead too. The blast radius for these rockets is about ten meters, meaning they are not overly focused. These rockets are designed for urban use, and therefore designed to weaken structural integrity of buildings and the environment, and make a clearer environment to fire the mortars.

Heavy Munitions Mortar Pod x4
The most obvious weapons on the UCT are four squat tubes that are mounted in a firm and sturdy bracket on its back. These are the HMMPs. Each of these pods holds three AZ300mm Mortars that are fired in a linear fashion, meaning they travel directly forward like massive bastard-child rockets, moving three times faster than normal rockets, and covering around a kilometer before the initial propulsion from the pod wears off and they drop. These mortars have massive 50 meter radii, and together with the size of these mortars, you’re looking at a damage range anywhere up to that of ten missiles per mortar. The entire bracket can move up and down five degrees, and each tube can fire once every six seconds, so in chain-fire mode you can fire one shot every one and a half seconds. There is also the option for synchronized firing, but that’s really only if you want massive overkill.

Smoke Discharger x2
Mounted on either side of the rear end of the Command Wolf over the hips are a pair of dual-barreled smokestacks. When activated, they discharge a large quantity of thick black smoke, able to quickly make a large smoke cloud to cover the Command Wolf from the rear.

Infrared
Other than allowing the Command Wolf to see distinguishable heat signatures and see through it's own smoke there isn't much to this basic sensor. It works similar to the Stealth Viper's infrared, except that it isn't able to see through steam very well.

3D Mapping
Installed in the base of the mortar bracket is a sensory package that is absolutely vital to cluttered urban combat. The package is a highly advanced 3D mapping and tracking system that will work no matter how cluttered the terrain is. Weather can affect it adversely, but this system can map out towns, forests, military complexes, and the works. It updates itself every half a second to reflect any changes in the terrain, and during that update, it shows the relative position of any Zoid within five hundred meters, as a small wireframe on the map. It doesn’t distinguish between friends and foe, and some forms of stealth can fool it, but in urban combat, this unit is the Juggernaut’s best friend.

Compatible Modifications:

CP-04 Attack Unit (replaces AZ50mm Double-Barreled Beam Cannon, leg boosters not mounted)
CP-06 Bomber Unit
CP-14 Viking’s Lance (only experiences 5km/h speed loss due to reinforced legs)
DP-01 D4WG Rockets x2 (can be mounted on the top of each side of the HMMP Bracket)
SS-06 Firestar Salvo Pod x2
SS-07 BESAD Autocannons (replaces AZ50mm Double-Barreled Beam Cannon, can mount with D4WG Rockets, anchors not required due to extra weight)
SS-10 Trapper Assault Unit (replaces AZ50mm Double-Barreled Beam Cannon)
