Title: Katfight

((I'm God 'round these parts. I can make whatever puns I want.))

Taking a break from classes, Jenny slipped into a nearby arcade on her lunch break. She got into the simulator, entering the familiar codes to play with the Shield Liger. She considered getting the Leomaster modification, then opted instead to simply get the XP-02 Fokker Device.
There's something kinda funny about knowing the guy responsible for a modification.

Alice wanting to learn how to handle her new helcat went to the arcade and got into a simulator. She searched the list and found the Helcat model, she debaited on adding a package, instead she choose none seeing as her own helcat had none.

Jenny found an opponent, then typed in the standard one-on-one battle setup.

The virtual Judgeman came down over a beautifully-rendered badlands. The sun was setting, and visibility was decreasing rapidly. He deployed, announcing the data:
"Shield Liger pilot versus Helcat pilot. Battlemode 0992. Starting distance five hundred meters. The area within three kilometers has been designated off-limits. Go back. It's not safe here."

The battle started up and as soon as she had command function she enables the cloak and moves the helcat off to the right, a little to fast seeing as she was hit by a wall of acceleration. She had never actually piloted a zoid in this kind of simulator.

Jenny geared the Shield Liger into a rapid jog, moving at two-twenty klicks. She raised the shield and activated the Fokker Device. She lifted up the AMD repeaters, setting them to pan fire thirty degrees to either side of the Helcat's starting point. If she saw a round hit something invisible, she'd focus her fire on it and turn to engage.

Alice was momentarilly surprised, she refexivly pulled back hard on the controls, the helcat stopped moving. She turned the helcat around started running again and did a small uturn, and had the helcat jump right over the stream. Afterword she turned the helcat at a 45 degree angle to 100 meters to the rear of the Sheild liger.

Alice's Helcat charges off to the right, fading from view as it sped off. Jenny, on the other hand, activated her shield and charged in. The Shield Liger's AMD repeaters trained on the Helcat, passing through the fuzzy-looking e-shield thanks to the precise Fokker mechanism. Once the Helcat was fully gone from view, they hit a lot less often as Jenny had less and less of an idea as to where it was. Even following on the last known speed and bearing, human error claimed a good bit of the shots' accuracy. The Liger turned towards the Helcat's general direction, though they didn't close in this round.
The Shield Liger is about one hundred and thirty-three meters off the Helcat's left flank. The Helcat's impact sensors registered several hits on the left flank. Alice couldn't tell how much damage they did or how far they penetrated.

"Right now." Alice changes bearing and speed staying out of range of the cannons. She gets ready to try and dodge any return fire. She keys up the AZ20mm double-barreled Beam Cannon, and turns it towards the Liger and fires off 3 rounds near the back edge of the shield before stopping, afterward she changes course and speed again, Circling around the Liger's back in a very wide arc traveling at near top speed more away from the liger then towards it.

The Shield Liger continued to pan fire, trying to run down the Helcat. Jenny keeps one eye on the spotty radar signal and one eye on the battlefield, looking out for muzzle fire and sign of footprint. She drops the shield to reduce the screen, deeply regretting not having selected a zoid that had some measure of anti-stealth capabilities

Solaris - September 5, 2005 10:21 PM (GMT)
Alice turns, heading towards the Shield Liger to discharge the beams. She discharged the fire into the hulking Liger's knees, doing some damage. Not nearly enough to slow it, much less stop it. Thanks to their relative speeds, though, the Helcat was close when it shot at the Liger. It couldn't have been more than fifty meters away.
Jenny, on edge from the battle against an invisible enemy, reacted pretty quickly. As the Helcat ran past and faded from view, she caught it with one of the Liger's massive paws.
Now let's put things in perspective here. The Helcat is roughly a sixth the Liger's size, their relative velocity some three hundred and fifty kilometers to five hundred kilometers an hour, and the Liger's paw alone probably weighs as much as the Helcat's leg.
And the Helcat compromised its stealth within view of this beast's pilot.
Alice felt something huge descend upon the Helcat's hindquarters, her proximity alarms squealing as the Shield Liger clipped it with a swipe from one of the paws. This swipe, while probably not very dangerous to something larger, took the Helcat's tail clean off, and a good chunk of the armor along with it.
There was now a hole in the air where one could look in and see the Helcat's structure.
The Helcat took off again, circling around the Shield Liger, and Jenny's heavier zoid had to turn in a much wider arc to keep up with it. The Helcat zipped off, losing Jenny for the time being.

Alice reeled as the 3d terrain basically fizzled out and got a few damge reports. She slowed her velocity, heading away from the liger at the slower pasce to try and keep the Helcat from tripping over anything, she wasn't planning to run away but perhaps a more pacient tactic would work, she starts off in a direction opposite the liger and speeds up to 120 km/h, staying ready for any fire.
