This, my good friends, is the pure, distilled essence of evil in a few canisters and generators located throughout the zoid. It is a high-tech and rather experimental package, components of which were designed by both the Republic and the Empire at separate times. Both militaries employ versions of the Ghost Unit, but this incarnation is strictly civilian use.
The Light-Bending Force Shield Generators mount internally on the zoid, projecting something vaguely akin to the normal force shield found on the Liger series but incapable of stopping physical objects. It warps light around it, sending the rays whipping around the bubble and coming out the other side. To the casual observer, the zoid is rendered completely invisible. There is some distortion, but movement helps to cancel out the visible effect of the distortion. A zoid breaking two hundred kilometers per hour is effectively invisible. Oddly, once the zoid starts nearing the sound barrier, this field begins to rapidly break down. At speeds exceeding five hundred kilometers per hour it has reduced effectiveness, almost like standing still, failing almost completely once the zoid passes eight hundred kilometers per hour. The shield is peculiarly effective against laser weapons, sending them out the other side without touching the zoid involved. The shield is a heavy energy-drainer, quickly tiring out many reptilian zoids that mount it.
One of two passive measures in the Ghost Unit, the RAM coating covers the zoid in a radar-absorbent material. This greatly reduces the zoid’s radar signature, providing it a good degree of protection against radar-reliant systems. It is not infallible, as more sensitive radars can still detect and target the zoid. The signal is too weak for almost any radar to detect and track.
The AMD Pulse Generator is a single unit that mounts inside the zoid. It links up to the zoid’s own radar and communication systems. If it detects inbound targets exceeding the speed of sound – a profile that fits just about every missile – then the system sends out a signal telling the missile to disarm itself, veer up by ninety degrees, and burn its fuel all at once. Plans to have the pilot manually aim the system were scrapped, as nobody south of God has reflexes that fast. The system AMD Pulse Generator is hardly foolproof, as fly-by-wire missiles are totally immune to its effects, and even normal missiles have a one-in-three chance of resisting the affect. The system has no effect upon aerial zoids, and does not distinguish between friendly and hostile missiles.
The other passive system granted by the Ghost Unit is the thermal masking. A combination of an enhanced coolant system and additional heat sinks in the stabilizer caps helps to stabilize the zoid’s temperature, greatly reducing the heat it puts out. This can combine with other systems, though there is a limit coolant enhancements can work before they start making the zoid’s surface too cold.
