Title: Happy Birthday Luka!

The Keeper - August 3, 2005 05:52 AM (GMT)
Happy Birthday 'Person whom I do not know but would like to know better as the site progresses'! ^_^; *hands her an Aro Saurer Plushie that's about 3/4 of her size*

Happy Birthday, Happy Birthday, Happy Birthday, I have no idea who you are but I'm a naturally social person :lol:; anywho, I really don't have a gift cause I'm friggin poor...so....*materializes a cake the size of a Liger's head* enjoy!!! ^_^;

Y'know, that's always been something that's bothered me on MMM. People making 'Happy Birthday' threads for people they don't even know, and who are quite frequently zero-post never-been-back Cits.
That said, I know who this fella is. He's one of my friends, and I've dubbed him the Non-Angsty Vampire Bishie Dude.
. . . He's especially non-angsty when compared to all the characters here . . .
Thusly, his Birthday Present of D00m is two Custom Zoid/Mod Commissions, one for each of his characters.

You don't exactly need to know a person to wish them a happy birthday, it's just something you do out of kindness, I mean if someone took the time to wish me happy birthday when they have no idea who I am(which you did), it's only right to do the same for someone else...

Solaris - August 3, 2005 05:48 PM (GMT)
Not quite. I've chatted with you a few times, and at least interacted with you. For all you knew, this was someone I'd asked to not come back to the board.
The natural solution to this problem, of course, would be to actually take your Away Message off when you sign on . . .

even if that was the case, it's still a jesture of kindness just to wish them a happpy birhtday no matter who they are or what they've done, if they're here or not, I mean if you'd ever gottn on my nerves, picked on me, called me names I'd still come and say happy birthday or whatever if you acknoweledge it or not...and I don't really think this is something to dispute back and forth about in a topic meant to just say happy birthday to this person...

Yes, but then it would be a hollow, meaningless gesture, wouldn't it?

K4n3 - August 3, 2005 08:40 PM (GMT)
Jesus Christ, Sol. It's a birthday. I realize it's a hollow, meaningless gesture coming from someone who doesn't know him but it's still a kind gesture nonetheless. (Happy Birthday, by the way)

Last straw, Kane.

I don't like people engaging in hollow, meaningless gestures because it, quite frankly, pisses me off. It infuriates me to no small end to see people simply herding to a topic and echoing what the last person said, simply because it's someone's birthday. If you want to avoid this rant, then try to avoid the overwhelming urge to say something moronc, something along the lines of "I have no idea who you are, but happy birthday anyways!"
Just say 'happy birthday' and leave it at that, if you've nothing else to say.
