Title: Drumroll, Please.

Solaris - July 13, 2005 12:38 AM (GMT)
A few of us staffers are discussing something that Mia seems to look at as a pipe dream.
But a few of you know me better.
The MC:CANcon. At least, that's what we're calling it right now. A little convention, most likely somewhere in the Midwest. Details are sketchy right now, but at this point I figure on rooms in a motel and some assistance for the more out-of-the-way members. I figure on us needing to enlist the aid of other sites, and maybe some sort of donation thingummiebobber.
I am, however, quite serious about this happening. Maybe next summer, but definitely the summer after that. I'm pretty good at making things happen. But I'm gonna need input from y'all. And possibly financial aid, but that comes later . . .

First off is where you guys live and where you can probably get to. Like I said, I figure on it taking place in the Midwest, most likely around Kentucky.
After that, I need ideas. Things you'd want in the convention. Things you think we could realistically afford.

Silberner Falkestern - July 13, 2005 01:00 AM (GMT)
A MC:CANcon would be love. Really. Yeah, I live in southwest Florida and I could probably drive up around there. (Ever tried driving through Georgia? It's like the state that never ends O.o)
Oh yes, ideas for the con. Bring in a model of another member's Zoid. (Hopefully one for each player, not character.) Also, have areas for the other sites that'll be helping us make this a reality. A really big table we can all sit around and be ourselves. Also, "Show off your |337 drawing skillz and make people pay for it!" << Gaming Shop of Horrors is going to be there and it will be online long before this con starts, Sol.

Solaris - July 13, 2005 01:25 AM (GMT)
Hmm . . . if we get the fundage, we might be able to arrange a MC:CAN-specific custom. I, at least, intend to get a Guysack model and wear it on a ballcap throughout the entire thing. At the very least, we'd have some zoid models selling there.
As well as get on the PA system and/or a megaphone and laugh evilly for a full thirty minutes.
For those outside the know, by the way, Gaming Shop of Horrors is a webcomic Chris and I have been working on (kinda-sorta) since just before BLX died. The characters are due for a redesign, but the general premise is that they're working in a gaming shop.
And dealing with gamers.

Wicken - July 13, 2005 01:31 AM (GMT)
This'd be awesome, really. I'm living in WA, around Seattle... but that's not the real problem.

Namely, my parents don't have a -clue- about my little online-life. They think everyone I talk to on AIM I know in RL. Which makes attending stuff like this slightly difficult.. >_> Of course I'm gonna be in college in a couple' years, and should wind up somewhere around NY/PA/thatarea, so.. yeah. I dunno if I'd be able to go in any event, but I'll try and think of something. Ish.

Dattebayo - July 13, 2005 01:35 AM (GMT)
ph34r the vidiot, for he shall attend!

I turn 18 this month and plan on acquiring a job, a car, a liscense, a bank account, and finnaly a debit card. All of that leads up to my ultimate goal as Vidiot....XBOX LIVE! but besides that, assuming this goes through, I can donate SOME cash toward the convention and plan on finding a nifty leomaster model and pimping it out. Or atleast making my own Dragonosis model XD.

The thing im worried most about is getting there, because it'd be my first time out ALONE in my own vehicle and me = not good with directions o-o

EDIT: I live in michigan, near detroit so it'd be a long ass drive from here to kentucky....that depends on where it's gonna be though

Solaris - July 13, 2005 01:43 AM (GMT)
Bree, we can make your coming to the con happen. We're good at kidnappings.

Vidiot, I figured on my heading eastwards to hook up with you and probably kidnap my little brother to meet Kane. And from there the two of us can wind up hopelessly lost somewhere around Mexico. Or Kentooky. Y'know. Either or.

Luka - July 13, 2005 01:52 AM (GMT)
I am totally for it, grant it I am only fifteen right now, and my birthday isn't until August, which means I won't be getting my lisence until about the end of school, which means not alot of time to save up for the trip...And I live in PA, and I can't navigate my way to the bathroom at night...Bet my mother is pissed about her dieing cactus...But yeah, I will try.

The Keeper - July 13, 2005 02:29 AM (GMT)
*Has finally gathered her wits together* I'm all for the idea, though of course we will need to deal with several financial problems... Regardless I'm supporting this event.

Kraig Cushard - July 13, 2005 03:14 AM (GMT)
I'd love to come, but one problem. Much like Bree, My parents have no clue what goes on in the internet time I spend. They would most likely never let me on the internet if they found out. So attending this is really hard. In two years I will be in college in the Florida area, where I will be free from parents by an easy 1000 miles. Since I currently live in the PA area. So then this is fully obtainable. So yea.

Solaris - July 13, 2005 03:33 AM (GMT)
Yes, about the finances . . . while the Admin and Staff are gonna be handling the brunt of the costs, every cent helps. Here's the results of tonight's discussion:

It's looking to be in the Pritchard Community Center in Elizabethtown, Kentucky. Will's gonna see about checking it out when he can get around to it.
We're also looking to get our hands on a server, the Invision PowerBoard package and a domain name. The domain name is easy, the package somewhat so, and the server's expensive. Mia and I are going to get jobs to help pay for it. I'd appreciate any assistance with that, as it'll help the site as well as help the site get big enough for the convention.
We are also looking to affiliate with and advertise on other sites once we have our own domain name so as to increase the number of hits we get. Webcomics, anime sites, the works. Media blitz here, folkses. Any and all suggestions will be appreciated.

You had the name of the city wrong...

Bite me, Kentookian.

kitsune106 - July 13, 2005 03:16 PM (GMT)
the idea sounds interesing, but unfortantely am unable to attend. my parents also don't know about this and most liekly would not approve of going ot the convention. Am in college, NJIT, but commute. ALso, unless know some one here to donate physically, cant help online. parents would ask about thedonation and mos tliekly ban me from teh interenet for a veyr long time. Very sorry, but althoguh it is a great ide , will be unable to reall help or attend.

K4n3 - July 14, 2005 12:53 AM (GMT)
Check it. These rates are for July 20-21, 2005. . . just so everyone can get an idea of the money and hotels and all that jazz. Oh, and the top ones on the list have meeting rooms/banquet halls incase we can't get the Community Center. I assume we all want a pool and free parking, so I checked that too.

Solaris - July 14, 2005 01:10 AM (GMT)
If we stay at a place with a pool, I'm wearing a Speedo. I don't know if this will take place before or after the Thirty Minutes of Evil Laugh. But I do know it will make all you guys feel inferior.

You're welcome for that thought.

Oh, ideas I've had that don't involve mental trauma:
LAN parties (Vidiot suggested this one.)
Special Convention Tournament (Zoid battles, maybe a big ol' Big Bad with a spiffy tangible prize. Like a rare model or something. And if that rare model's some nifty zoid, it'll be a nifty zoid that your character gets in the game.)
Zoid battles on the Gamecube. (So you guys can finally whup my ass in a zoid fight.)
Zoid Model contest. (Custom models. Tangible prize, too. Maybe one on the site.)
Cosplaying. (Do it and die.)
Burning Hero Cloud in effigy. (Only if he doesn't show up. He shows up, we lynch him.)

Silberner Falkestern - July 14, 2005 06:59 AM (GMT)
<< My friend Aka is coming with me. Also, Aka says for our first con, we could ask someone's parents if we can invade their house because the prices for a hotel room are a little high... (If this gets big, we could probably get anime convention prices on hotel rooms and such.) Also, my Gamecube pwns all of yours because mine is Zadka's. Sol, I so know you want me to find people to dress up as Siren and the rest of my characters *Notices Aka die in corner.* And me want Gilvader for Sil. Must find Gilvader on Ebay...

Sol? Speedos BAD. Trust me and my many years of living by/on the beach in California.

Wicken - July 14, 2005 08:03 PM (GMT)
..Do you really think anyone's parents would approve of a massive ammount of their kid's internet friends coming over? o_o

AND! Didja know, Tomy's re-releasing the GGA in the Genesis line? >_> There's still hope for getting a Gylvader under 500 bucks! Who knows. Anyway.

Solaris - July 14, 2005 09:20 PM (GMT)
Yeah, a couple. Why?

Yes, but then it's not as spiffy if it's the new release that doesn't cost large amounts of money.

K4n3 - July 15, 2005 02:17 AM (GMT)
You bitches are not posting up in my house. Fuck you. Sol will not be coming anywhere near my family.

Solaris - July 15, 2005 02:23 AM (GMT)
Y'know . . . I get that a lot. I'm not sure why, though. *Whistles innocently.*

Silberner Falkestern - July 15, 2005 03:43 PM (GMT)
Wait, Gungy or Gilvy? GGA is the Gunguyarados, not the Gilvader. But it wouldn't matter either way for me. I'm a Gungy and a Gilvy fangirl.

Solaris - July 15, 2005 05:17 PM (GMT)
Pretty sure she was referring to the hope that they'd be releasing a Gylvader model. Not the fact that they've already released a Gunguyarados model.

Dattebayo - July 15, 2005 05:38 PM (GMT)
Yah know....Kane, when we come there....I'll be with him and can ALMOST promise you wont get hurt....for the most part o-o

. . . Vidiot, don't encourage them to start a pool going as to whether or not my ability to take on three guys and win without getting touched actually means I can beat the ever-loving shit outta Kane.
I'd hate to have to put money on me.

K4n3 - July 17, 2005 02:28 AM (GMT)
That's why I said "Fuck you.". I'm actually quite to opposite of the part I play. I'm short and scrawny. Been in one fight in my life and I hit a guy with a skateboard and ran. I'm a puss and I don't feel like having the crazy one in my house.

Solaris - July 17, 2005 02:35 AM (GMT)
Oh, like being short and skinny's ever stopped me . . . But seriously, we'd be putting up in a hotel or something. No sense in launching raids on the Kentookians' houses.
Not saying we can't, but we have to leave before the sun goes down. I hear tell that if you're in there after sundown, you're trapped. Forever.

K4n3 - July 17, 2005 03:27 AM (GMT)
I wish. That'd mean my girlfriend would still be here and you know what that would lead to Steve-o, lovin' all night for the Ben-man. That's right Sol, I fight fire with fire.

Solaris - July 17, 2005 02:42 PM (GMT)
You're right, Kane. You do nothin' for the staff, so I'm thinking you don't need to hold that position.
Alright. The spamming stops now. Don't post in here unless it relates directly to the convention. We have Spamelot for everything else.

That wasn't fire. That was cold as ice.

The Pipers - September 5, 2005 02:31 AM (GMT)
Heya.
The Pipers are friends of Solaris . . . if everything works, we'll be playing at MC:CANcon.
We're currently working on a fund to buy the band a hearse . . . when we get a system for donation, I'll make another post.
Thanks!

And yes, this was approved by me - Sol.
I love the smell of passive voice in the morning. - Sol again.
