This is a fairly expensive and complex modification with a simple purpose. Once it is installed on a zoid, it cannot be easily removed due to the fact that it is so thoroughly integrated into the zoid’s structure and power supply. As such, it cannot be swapped around with a teammate’s zoid, and can only be removed when it is sold.
On most zoids it replaces a good deal of the foot, installing a particle converter in the ankle joint and putting small vents at the bases of the claws. The claws are also coated in a heat-resistant material so they aren’t eaten away by the plasma. The Gordos mounts a similar system, save for the fact that the plasma torches are installed in the spikes and the particle converters in armored cases on the sides of the tail, barely noticeable bumps between the spikes. Due to the simpler nature of the modification to the spikes, the torches can account for two of them.
The Strike Laser Claw is capable of dealing almost unsurpassed melee damage, especially if the zoid using it has a lot of kinetic energy to back the attack. The claws tear up the armor, and the torches both assist the claws and burn at the internal structure. They are, however, serious power drainers and should only be active in the split second it takes to activate them and the initial strike. The Saber Tiger, Shield Liger, and Lightning Saix handle them the best, able to keep a SLC going for several seconds if they’re not expending too much energy, the Gordos and Redler just behind them at four to three seconds, and the Command Wolf and Heldigunner suffer the worst effect, dealing less damage than the others and able to keep it active for only a couple of seconds.
