Armor Description:
The King Liger is an old Zoid, but it's a respectable machine in its own right. Constructed to be the replacement for the Shield Liger, inferior marketing kept this Zoid out of the limelight while the rival Shield Liger became more widespread. The armor on the King Liger is extensive, and much of the Zoid has some measure of armor plating protecting it. Notable spots devoid of armor are the back and a small bit of the upper chest. The flanks and rear are also somewhat unprotected as well. The armor, where it covers, is very tough, on par with that of the Shield Liger, enabling the King Liger to take a righteous beating before giving in. Finally, the back of the legs have radiator fins protruding from the armor. Should they be disabled, the King Liger will find it difficult to execute its supercharged run speed.
Mobility and Power Source:
The King Liger was designed to exceed the Shield Liger in every manner, and maneuverability is no exception. The King Liger's very agile, and more than capable of keeping up with the Shield Liger. It's about on par with the Zaber Fang for maneuverability. Despite its slightly smaller size, the King Liger actually has more muscle power than its rival, and can brutalize other Zoids just fine in melee combat. It's also got better endurance, meaning it can keep up the fight longer, even when using energy-intensive weaponry. It's no canine, but the King Liger has more endurance than the Shield Liger.
Weaponry and Equipment:
Mega-Vulcan Cannon x2
These two powerful vulcan cannons rest on either side of the King Liger's face, and sport a high firing rate of thirty armor-piercing rounds per second. However, the projectiles they fire aren't standard bullets, like nearly all rapid fire weaponry, but actual 40mm cannon shells, propelled at a high velocity to penetrate armor more effectively. The Mega-Vulcans are the main weapons of the King Liger, and with good reason, as they can do a horrid number on enemy Zoids. Due to the recoil involved, their sturdy mounts only allow them to incline 30 degrees up or down, and not at all to the sides.
Laser Blade x4
The King Liger was the original blade-attack Zoid. It has two metal blades welded directly to its "mane" area, behind the head, with another set on the tail. The head blades are approximately seven meters off the ground. Both point slightly upward from an otherwise horizontal mount, and can be charged with laser energy identical to the Blade Liger's blades. Since they're rather stubby (the top ones have almost no blade sticking out past the body) the laser system actually extends out past the blade, projecting four energy blades about four meters long past the Liger's body. They don't hurt as bad as getting hit by the physical charged blade, but they allow you to make blade attacks somewhat more easily.
Beam Needlegun x2
Two small, rear-facing beam guns are located in the tip of the Liger's tail, next to the tail blades. The beams are nothing more than standard laser bolts, but the weapon's been given the name "beam needlegun" because it builds up damage much like getting hit with a flurry of tiny needles. Combined, the twin Beam Needleguns emit between one and two hundred tiny laser bolts per second. While the effect on Zoid armor isn't a whole lot, the aggregate effect can amount to a decent bit of damage. They also excel at downing missiles.
E-shield Generator x4
The King Liger's energy shield generators are buried under its thick armor in the grey units on its shoulders. In effect, it's exactly like that of the Shield Liger, the difference being that since the generators are buried under armor, they're more difficult to disable manually. Like the Shield Liger's shield, it forms in a zeppelin shape strongest at the front, weakest at the rear, and leaves the King Liger open to attack from behind.
Active radar antenna x2
The King Liger appears to have four blades on its mane, behind the head. The upper two, stubbier than the lower ones, are actually heavy-duty radar antennae. They're just as strong as the blades, but instead of charging with laser energy, they employ sensitive omnidirectional surveillance radar to map out a 3D image of the battlefield for the pilot. Technology gleaned from salvaged Imperial Molgas, the King Liger employs a holographic heads-up display in the cockpit, which is nearly impossible to see out of otherwise. It works via standard light sensory as well as the radar antennae, and appears much like a wireframe model of the battlefield. Think Battlezone and you're on the right track.
Energy Management System
One of the coolest features of the King Liger. Its entire body is packed with specialized conduits running to a central energy management system governing the power flows in the Liger's body. The Liger can choose to "supercharge" one of the four energy intensive systems in its body at the cost of the others. Either the beam needleguns, the energy shield, its mobility and power functions, or the laser blades can be energized to perform much better for one turn, but the downside is that the other three shut off entirely, with the exception of the mobility, which receives an 80kph speed penalty. If the mobility is increased, the King Liger gains 30kph running speed, as well as a large increase in physical strength. The beam needleguns, if amplified, shoot 10mm laser bolts at the same rate, to vastly amplify damage. The laser blades can extend up to seven meters, and deal much more damage, and finally, the energy shield can absorb 50% more damage than normal, as well as featuring an intensified disintegration effect. If amplified, the energy shield or beam needleguns burn out after their one turn is up. Knowing which systems to route power to is one of your greatest assets.
Power Connector
The King Liger's unarmored back provides ample mounting space for specially designed "grade-up" units. Numerous aftermarket modifications making use of this specially designed port are available for purchase. In addition, certain Zoids, such as the Gorgolauncher, are designed to fit onto this slot, becoming weapon packs for the King Liger.
