Title: Knicks Hire Mike D'Antoni
Venom - May 11, 2008 01:16 AM (GMT)
Knicks Hire D'Antoni4 years, $24 million.
Strider - May 11, 2008 10:36 PM (GMT)
Maybe they see him as a long-term solution. Because that "seven seconds or less" sh*t isn't gonna work with Marbury, Curry and Randolph. They'll have to rebuild (obviously) and do it in a way that fits his system. And it'll take at least a couple seasons to find and/or develop those pieces - especially the point guard. Which means if he's another 2-seasons-and-done coach, it'll have been a major waste. But, since it's the Knicks, we have to assume they're expecting it to be a big splash, quick-fix move. They saw the record with the Suns and the "fun, exciting basketball" and think he can have them alley ooping their way to 45 wins. The team can't defend and they've got a coach who says, "Sheeeet, I ain't asking you to."
I wouldn't have wanted him - because I can't stand his voice - but I think Avery Johnson might've been the best fit for the team right now, during the rebuilding. With things as f*cked up as they are, they need a nagging banshee type to get in asses and try to create a competitive atmosphere. They wouldn't be a winning team, but he'd at least hold them accountable and maybe annoy them into giving effort on defense. Guys might hustle every now and then just to not have that nucca in their ear.

After Herb Williams, Don Chaney, Lenny Wilkins, and Isiah I don't want another black coach ever again. We need a white man to lead this group of stupid nyguhs.

Larry Brown wasn't given a fair shot because of black Isiah.

"I've been hired to come here and teach you monkeys how to play basketball. And ya'll have got to be the dumbest bunch of banana-eatin' sh*t-tossers I done ever seen. I used to think basketball skills came natural for orangutans. Guess like every other species, there's a few retarded ones in the group. 'Cept for David, o'course. He plays with heart and works his ass off while surrounded by laziness, like only a white man can. Lee, you go'on home and thank ya mama for raisin' you right. I've watched the film and excludin' him, I've seen a bunch o' little chimps runnin' round, being selfish, all tryin' to be King Baboon. There'll be no more o' that. Now, first goddam things first! You, Balkman, get a f*ckin' haircut, you shiftless, pot-smokin' son of a bitch. That's way too much nap for one head."

 you are so right! He needs to Kunta Kinte these losers into the mid 90's Knicks. I met Allan Houston in the airport the other day and even he was dogging them.
Mattingly23 - May 12, 2008 03:20 AM (GMT)
I would have preferred Jax since he could have learned on the job as the Knicks cleared cap room, but I will keep an open mind with D'Antoni, who supposedly didn't always play a run and gun style when he was uber-successful coaching in Italy. This isn't about the next two years. It's about treading water for that time and then really turning it on if they're able to sign some top free agents.

What did he say? Because he didn't play defense either. All it took was one stutter step or a simple crossover to get by H20.

Really nice guy, I was in Nashville last week and he was just waiting for his bags when we got off the same flight.
It was crazy..... I asked him if he thought the Knicks had a shot of rebuilding in a hurry and competing next year. He said even if they hired Jesus, they would not make the playoffs next year and him and his boy started laughing.
He was not limping at all though.
Mattingly23 - May 12, 2008 02:23 PM (GMT)
It's especially funny because he is so religious.
He's going to attempt another comeback this summer, just not with the Knicks. He could have made a team out of last year's camp, but felt loyalty to the Knicks. This time he can pick and choose a team that needs an outside shooter, especially one that has players who command double teams inside. Cleveland, Boston, and Phoenix are three possibilities.

I was hoping for Avery to be the coach as well. I don't think D'Antoni will be succesfull as Knick coach at all. I also think he won't last 2 full seasons. I think Avery jOHNSON WAS THE GUY TO HIRE! He would have been the perfect NEW SHERIF IN TOWN TYPE! I think if nthing else he would have forced some of those lazy azz bastards to play harder while they waited to clear some more cap space. In all honesty, I'd like to see Mark Jackson get a shot once the roster is turned over and they make some better moves. I think he has the skills to be a successful coach in NY.

I don't like this move, Mark Jackson was the man for the job. Queens cat, played for the Knicks, fans would be much more patient with him!!!! Bad move.

He'll certainly last longer than the Magic's last coach.
moomoo24 - May 13, 2008 05:48 PM (GMT)
My only concern is with D'Antoni is if they aren't as patient. I could see them trying to trade Marbury's contract to Phoenix for backups like Diaw and Barbosa who's contracts go through 2010. Would've been cool to see Jackson though, especially because Ewing probably would've been brought in as an assistant.
I'mRickJamesBitch - May 13, 2008 06:49 PM (GMT)
I thought Jackson was the guy too. Not sure why they went this route.

Yes, the god awful move of bringing Brian Hill back. Very nostalgic, but he didn't have Shaq and Penny running things this time around. Two years....I should hope D'Antoni would last longer then that!

I think he was talking about Billy Donovan?

I was actually talking about Billy Donovan, but yeah, Brian Hill Part II didn't work out either. Ron Jeremy should stick around awhile. He's a good coach.
D'Antoni will have to deal with the next two years of clearing the cap, then he will hopefully begin to enjoy the fruits of my Summer of 2010 post, which I should bump.
Yanksfan03 - May 14, 2008 03:29 AM (GMT)
D'Antoni would've been a perfect fit for the Bulls. Great job by Paxson and cheap ass Reinsdorf screwing around like f*cking tools.

LMAO, I forgot all about Donovan, it's almost like that never happened it was so short. I think the Magic ended up with a better coach which is why I don't think about the Donovan fiasco that much.
