Okay, I know we've been through the proxy but in light of the fact that House has living parents - do they come into the legal frame with proxy?
Are they assumed legally as decision makers had Stacy not been around and could they have contested her decisions?
I doubt, if Auld House is anything to go by, that they would have but could they have been consulted? Are they House's next of kin legally though limited only by the parameters of Stacy's proxy? If they are do they have to be kept informed?
If he signed an official health proxy, had it notarized, and filed it with the hospital it would haave been difficult to contest it. his parents would have been his next of kin legally. But proxies override the blood relationship. It's one reason why it's so important to have one--so you can designated someone who agrees with your wishes to make decisons when you can't. That Stacy knowing made decisions she knew he didn't want violates the trust in their relationship, the purpose of a proxy, and I suppose one could argue, her ethics as a lawyer. But it would have been very difficult to challenge her decision given the proxy.
Thanks!
I never saw much of an issue with Stacy being a lawyer and proxy as long as she stuck to one and didn't use a combination to manipulate the situation and she didn't appear too. I guess she has top trumps on the final say and she seemed clear enough in her intention not to need recourse to the parents and their thoughts.
She certainly didn't appear to consider anyone's opinion but her own. I doubt either she or House wanted his parents involved, although it's hard to know if the writers were thinking that far in advance. BTW, I answered your "layover" question in the "Ellen" thread.
