At last! The conclusion of the Christmas chapter is up:
weaving time in a tapestryThis is a big chapter with lots and lots of Eileen.
Thanks to Magdala for a little idea that helped me kick a bad case of writer's block.
Thanks to sy for betaing, and special thanks to Namaste, whose betaing was heroic.
A note for new members: This is the latest installment in my big sprawling House fic, which is told in blog format.
Most of the posts are stand-alones, but there's also an ongoing series in which House is reminiscing about his days as a resident and about a woman named Eileen he knew then. This latest post is part of that series.
If you're interested in reading the whole Eileen series, if you go to the
front page of the blog there's a list of Eileen posts on the right sidebar. But here's a quick summary if you want to jump right in:
House met Eileen during his residency and found himself interested in her. Things were complicated, though, for House was... well, House, and the life of a resident is not easy. Eileen was still in college, was significantly younger, and -- worst of all -- was dating a medical student whom House was supervising at the time.
They bumped into each other a few times that spring, but House didn't see Eileen again until a November afternoon when their paths crossed again. Eileen had just broken up with her med student and was without a way out of town for Christmas. House offered her a lift. He had his own issues at the time and wasn't looking forward to his own visit home, so he was pleased when Eileen ended up accepting the ride. He picked her up early on Christmas Eve, and they were off. This latest chapter picks up with their first coffee break.
