Betz, Betz, Betz, I love you, thank you so much. Holy freakin crap on a stick.
I read part one last night and just finished part two. It's the best thing I've seen today.
What else have I seen today?
Les Miserables.
For the first time, never seen it before. The kid who played Gavroche was awesome, I didn't know eight year olds could be that talented. The guy who played Javert had an awesome voice. The staging of it was awesome, the most impressive staging I've ever seen, with a rotating stage and elaborate sets. (Btw, we're not talking about a local theater group here. I don't know why, but the Broadway tours come to Bloomington. So this is a Broadway musical we're talking about, the kind you'd see in New York, just to hammer home the point. :D ) I don't go to the theatre often and don't know much about it, aside from the Broadway thing, but Les Miserables is one of the better stories out there, so it's not something to look down one's nose at.
And you totally blew it out of the water.
I haven't hummed Do You Hear the People Sing in an hour and a half. Till I went to write this post, I forgot that I'd even seen it today. I was thinkin, what else did I do today that this beat the hell out of?
I didn't cry at Les Miz--the heart strings were tugged, yes, but no tears. Now, though. Now....
God. I don't think I've read a fic before with a better payoff than this one. Getting to it, that line, "I love you," oh wow, wow, wow, and then the reply. This is the best relationship fic I've read ever, I think. I can't remember one that was better, at least. The way it crept up on us and them, coming on so slowly, everyone realizing it but them, and we never knew for sure if they'd realize it, and I would've been sad if they didn't, but I would've understood and it would've been okay cause life's like that. But when they did. Jesus H. Christ on a pogo stick, it was good. So good.
As to the writing of it...I believe you've made me unhate a particular set of cliches that I hated alot before now. That's damn hard to do and a sign of really good writing. I was impatient with it at first, annoyed, but it won me over in the end. Certain writing styles tend to stick in one's head; this will be one of them, I have no doubt.
I also really like what you did with Wilson and House and all of the other original characters around them. Susan and Francie are tied as my favorite, but I did like the Twins quite a bit, even if we didn't see much of them. Billy and Vince I like too, though not as much (because of their actions, not because of any flaw in the writing). Original characters really reasonate when one feels one can have a conversation with them. You've achieved that here. Bravo!
I clapped for Les Miz tonight but I didn't stand. Now I'm standing. :)
As you've probably figured out by now, I really liked it. The natural corollary to 'I really liked it' is 'I want more.' So I want more. But I'll not demand more immediately cause right now I am immensely satisfied. Having said that, I want more. But I realize that writing of this quality takes time, so no rush. I can wait. :)
Well...when I got home tonight, I'd planned to break out Les Miz and read it again. I did this instead, obviously. I'm very glad I did. There are certain things dead French guys just can't do. *g*
Cheers,
Sy
hopes that made sense, brain is still scrambled from an awesomeness overload
*Stands clapping* Bravo! Bravo! I am in awe! That was awsome! You have a true gift! Sy, covered so much in the last post, so all I will add is a personal "Jolly Good Show!" :D
Can't wait for the next chapters! I printed the first two and gave them to my friend to read who also loves "House." and she is going to check it out this weekend. I'll let her leave a comment next time she is over after she reads it
Thank you! :)

Wonderful work, Bets! B) I just savored the last of part II, tonight... Like sy, I wasn't sure if those two stubborn guys would ever act on their feelings instead of keep right on dancing around them. I'm glad they did. :) And, I'm not even a House/Wilson 'shipper' (unless it's 'friendship.') LOL But, the way you wrote this was just right. B)
Excellent job at filling in backstory and dealing with all the issues that the show hasn't, from pre-infarction friends, to House's family (his Mom, at least), to why he uses his cane on his 'weak' side, to so many other things. Awesome scenes between Wilson and House... ...and it was kind of nice that everyone around those two supported them and understood what was between them, long before they could vocalize or act on it. This tale covered such a lot of ground and made the journey a very pleasurable one, amidst all the angst. Giving you a well-deserved round of applause for an epic accomplishment. B)
Hugs,
Sanlin
Betz,
I don't know as I can add anything that hasn't already been said but I had to let you know I am completely blown away!!! It's taken me a day to get my thoughts together over this and I still can't come up with any original praise!
This is fantastic and soooooo worth the wait. I took some time to read it because I wanted to savor every last morsel.
Just amazing writing! If you aren't an author by trade you should be. Not to slight any of the other fabulous writers we've got here but you are head and shoulders above us all in my opinion.
Man, that was like a good steak. Just Mmmmmm all the way though and even when you're done and full to the gills you think 'Wooh that was so good I could eat another one right now'
Thank you for writing that and shaing it with us! You're the best! :D B)
Betz - holy cow. What a read. I was finally able to finish your fic. (thank you rtl!) Wow and WOW! I enjoyed it so much. Not to mention, you used the word "legwork" which just kills me. The De Soto metaphor - awesome. House/Wilson slash too. I'm not much of a H.E. slash-er, but I liked the subtlety of their feelings and how it kept them off-balance with one another and helped to deepen their personalities and levels of communication. Great job! Thanks for sharing your talent with us.
