The Proper Care and Feeding of Young Ducklings

**ETA** 10/4/05 -- PPD is working hard to get the last of the fics up at the new site. Sorry Sam, we'll have these up in the next few days and I'll get the links going. Thank you for your patience!

The link to the Author Page is working so keep checking there. The stories will be there before I can get links posted.

Hmmm... I'm sitting here thinking how to *phrase* my feedback for this piece. ;) Fanfiction always fascinates me because of the endless possibilities that can be explored. The Doctor House presented in this piece is different than one I ever would have thought of, myself. This incarnation is colder and more ruthlessly Machiavellian than the image of House I harbor in my own warm, fuzzy heart. LOL But, it's interesting seeing different writers 'takes' on things and I value reading works that make me look at things in sometimes startling, or even personally disquieting, ways. So, thank you, TS, for a 'what if' look into one of the myriad possible incarnations of House. :)

Hugs,
Sanlin

Okay, I've read this through about 10 times. It has grown on me and is becoming one of my favorites. B)

I love it when a piece creeps up on me like this! Great work!

I think you've hit very close to House's inner thoughts here. He's not warm and fuzzy and probably never was but that doesn't mean he doesn't care. You've really brought that out. Everything he does he does for a reason and those reason's are usually not based on spur of the moment emotions.

Plus how could you not love the Foreman/hedgehog comparison?!

Thank Sam! I hope inspiration strikes again soon!! :D

Sanlin-Cold and ruthless? LOL, I thought I made him pretty darn fuzzy, actually. In the end he *does* let Chase off work, even though he could be mr.mean'n'nasty and make him stick around because they're knee-deep in two cases.

Yea, I know, you want him to squish and cuddle his ducklings. I'd explode with fluffy happies if the duck family had a big group hug, but I just don't think it will happen any time soon. :P

Also keep in mind that in this piece House is guarding even his thoughts (as I suspect he would), because OMG what if he ever really admitted he gives a damn? Oh gnomes, it would be the end of the world!

Read between the lines, kids. ;)

Sam, this is my first re-read of this piece in a long while and I have to say I think you've captured House quite well. The stamping down of emotions is so spot on.

He does give a damn but, like you said above, doesn't dare show it. We don't know why and maybe we never will but you have captured that inner struggle in just a few brief lines without softening him.

That's what Hugh's acting does for me. It shows us that inner struggle without softening House.

I guess that puts you in the same box as Hugh?! :P Behave! :o ;)

Thank you for sharing this Sam and trust me when I say I will read anything you write! (And eventually get to feedback)
