Title: Cuddy and House
cathyNH - February 2, 2005 06:03 PM (GMT)
1. Cuddy *did* hire House (as opposed someone else hiring him, and her inheriting him when she came in as administrator)..
2. And she knew what kind of trouble he could/would be -- $50K/year for legal defense??? Wow....
3. Which means she was also impressed as hell by his capabilities and his reputation as a doctor....

Well I know that all of those facts mess with some people's fan fic...and my logic...grrrrr...why would she wait 6 years to get on him about clinic duty??

Yeah, this *was* a surprise. It raises more questions than it answers. LOL
On the good side of things, it probably means that Cuddy will keep 'going to bat' for House and his team, since she's already made such a huge personal and professional investment in having House at the hospital. Even if House and Cuddy have a teasing/combative personal relationship, I think this indicates that they'd 'team up' against anything or anyone who threatened the way things are done at PPTH.
Hugs,
Sanlin

I think I'm just going to ignore this, it doesn't make any sense at all that she would let him get 6 years behind in clinic duty. Neither does having a $50K slush fund at her fingertips just to bail out a doctor who's been charged with battery. Plus it messes up my fic.

I really liked their "insane" conversation. lol 50k is quite a lot to hold on the side for one person but it is House. Does that mean that House might get into more legal problems in the future? suspicious...

In the world of tort, $50K is chump change. That's like telling your kids you knew they wanted to go to college so you saved them a nice crisp Benjamin.
It's amazing House hasn't been sued yet. Maybe that's part of why he won't see patients -- to minimize the risk!

As far as letting him get behind, it might make sense. She likely hired him *before* his leg was screwed up. Now, I agree with the trumpet player that House was likely *never* a "ray of sunshine" (thus the need for the 50k "slush fund" to bail him out occasionally--I doubt this is the first time that House has been in a court room, even if he doesn't end up there as often as Cuddy would have expected) but he probably wasn't quite as averse to human contact before the accident. Cuddy may have just been hoping at first that if given some space, he'd eventually come out of his shell, so to speak and go back to normal and was lax on forcing him into his clinic duty, and it probably became just a habit or something tolerated half out of either pity or guilt on Cuddy's part. What precipiated her putting her foot down on the matter, I don't know. Maybe another doctor quit and she needed him to take up the slack, or maybe he was getting worse and she was fed up. Who knows?
ETA: Oooh! There's a plotbunny for you! Why would Cuddy feel guilty after House's infarction episode? Hrm... B)
Auditrix - February 4, 2005 04:43 PM (GMT)
Someone else can adopt that plot bunny. In the Trixiverse, Cuddy did not hire House. That's my story and I'm stickin' to it. :D
Now, what's the text on that "across the Universe" avatar you have there?
TelegramSam - February 4, 2005 04:49 PM (GMT)
on the top it says "nothing's gonna change my world" and on the bottom it says "across the universe"
Sorry, that screencap just reminded me of that music video Fiona Apple did a few years ago covering the Beatles song. :P

The revelation that Cuddy hired House did come as quite a shock. I've been thinking about it and have come up with some other questions this answer raises.
Was she administrator when she hired him or maybe just department head?
Did she hire him because of his reputation (as suggested by her comment in the pilot about how his reputation no longer being worth anything if he didn't do his job) or as a favor to someone(Wilson?)?
If she hired him when she wasn't administrator then it would seem highly unlikely that she would have had the power or budget to set aside $50,000 a year. She does seem to be a very persuasive person so she may have talked the administrator into it because of House's extrordinary abilities. This would bring in business and therefore warrent the little fund.
This would also explain the six years of lost clinic duty. If she wasn't administrator she would not have had the power to force him into it. Now that she is in charge maybe she tried other ways and finally got nasty about it?
Like the lacrosse game in Paternity I think we need more information to really get close to an answer. Hmmmmm.

I really like that episode because at the end was very sad and I almost cried when he gave him the trumpet. I am new this group and I am a big fan of House just like the rest of you guys.
