Title: Rethink, revise and update
Description: Suggestions wanted

Okay, I've been gearing up to get back on the site updating wagon (the fanfiction site that is) and thought it could use a fresh coat of paint.

Anyone have any suggestion? Anything you'd like to see besides updates ( ;) ). Any ideas on a better way to organize?

I'm open to anything right now so have at it. Drop in any crazy idea you have. I just might use it!

And just to give you an idea of what I was thinking (but don't yet know if it's possible and it certainly isn't written in stone!)...

Oh my, how to explain this?!

Without too much detail, I'd like to archive older authors (anyone who hasn't contributed anything in the last year) onto a 'site' of their own. Then take the current authors, update and jazz up their home page as well as add their new works. Then I'd like to add at least three more pages. One with a list of the top ten new fics (a list of the 10 most recent contributions), one with the top ten authors (the top ten most read authors on the site) and a fic challenge page (not even sure how I'll work this one!).

Do you guys think this will break it down too much and confuse people? Should I just leave it as is and just update the fics as needed? Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Actually, that sounds pretty good to me.

I was wondering if anything can be done about the spam on the board? I know it gets deleted fast, but isn't their something that can be added to registration like a confirmation code the user has to type to prove they aren't a spam bot?

I know what you mean and I kind of looked into that the other day when we had three or four new "members" join and over the next couple of days they each posted spam.

I didn't see anything like that and I think it would be annoying to the good standing regular members. Plus, I don't think they are spambots I think they are real folks doing it so they could just as easily type in the code.

I may reinstitute the validation for new members for a while though. I hate to do that and possibly discourage new members, especially over the summer when things are kind of dead. But from what I understand from talking to other board admins, there are ways to let people know why you are doing it so they don't feel intimidated.

I'll look into it over the weekend and see what I can do.

I'm not sure unless they're dumb. For the porn spam if they were smart they would post links to pornographic photos of hot men, and not girls. *is guilty of reading the spam, but never clicks on the links provided*
