Title: What say to another challenge?

Catlady - January 19, 2007 06:52 AM (GMT)
We haven't had one for a while. I could offer one up if no one else has any ideas and of course, there's nothing against having multiple challenges at once.

Anyway, just curious as it's now after the holidays and we've, I hope, nearly recovered. So, what do we want to do?

I don't know... but the fic section of this forum seems to be dormant. Can we have an angsty challenge?

cakemixo - January 20, 2007 12:14 AM (GMT)
I'm afraid I'm going to have to sit out this one. I have three fanfics fighting for my attention right now. But I'll be happy to watch ;) .

Catlady - January 20, 2007 07:38 AM (GMT)
And that is perfectly fine. I'm going through a bit of a dry spell myself with all my writing. The challenge I was thinking of wasn't especially angsty either.

I don't even know that I'd participate in a challenge myself. It's just as Nomad said, that fiction area has been kind of barren lately and no one has posted any responses to any of the old challenges or posted any new ones, so I just though I'd send out a few feelers and see what was going on.

I know it's post-holiday, several people are just getting back into the groove with school, and apparently, I'm not the only one with the "blahs" right now. Add that the holidays are always crazy and that accounts for much of December. So just wanting to see if we're all sitting around waiting for someone else to start a new one and no one is taking a turn because they keep assuming someone else wants to, or what. If we want to bag it for a while, or indefinitely, or for good, no problem, no pressure.

Please add more opinions.

I've got zero ideas for challenges... but I just don't seem to have a very good imagination when it comes to making up challenges. Maybe everyone is off on their own temporarily... writing in secret to unleash their masterpieces upon us at a later date. I've got a potential fic in the works... but it's tentative at best.

I keep saying I'm going to write a House fic. I don't know if I'll be able to this semester since I have to focus my attention to original fic and characters since my pre-production class focuses on coming up with outlines for scripts and I have about 12 C.L.O.S.A.T cards due monday and have 3 written now and only 1 well written. Unless I have some great inspiration or a good idea, it's not going to happen until later. I have a fear of a House fic turning out bad, and everyone here is so good. I'd be too embarassed if I did finish anything to post it.

Catlady - January 26, 2007 06:15 AM (GMT)
Well, I have the same fear, of producing something truly horrible, if that's any consolation.

Anyway, you and everyone else, don't worry about it, it sounds like we're all more or less up to our necks for some reason or another.

Truthfully guys... think of all the fics over at the "pit" (i.e. fanfiction.net) and I'll bet you have them beat by a mile. Pretty much everyone on this board does. No offense to youngsters having a go at it and having fun, but some of the posters there are most definitely written by 13 year olds who have yet to learn proper grammer, spelling, and the ways of the world. So get out there... and start writing. :) Then find a good beta and post to your heart's content.

Since I seem to be on a bi-monthly updating schedule with my current fic (the next chapter is almost ready . . . really, it is), I probably shouldn't go starting anything new. But here's an idea that might be conducive to ficlets, and thus might fit better with our busy schedules than longer projects would:

In the promo for the upcoming episode, the announcer said something like, "House faces his greatest fear." I doubt this really has much to do with the plot of the episode (though I could be wrong -- I'm spoiler-free); it sounds like the kind of thing that the promo gods throw in to stir up "buzz". But it raises a question, which a ficlet might answer: "What is House's greatest fear?" This could be approached as angst, or as humor.

I'm sure it's not going to be exactly like the show. For some reason, the last line of your post. reminds of a Dr.Who, fic I read the other day, which made me laugh.

Another challenge sounds great. I'm still trying to find time to polish up the last challenge (Sorry cakemixo! I will finish it sometime. Soon I hope!). I have five fics in the works right now and one older one that is undergoing intense rewrite scrutiny so I don't know as I'd be starting or finishing another challenge but I'll certainly take a look and give it consideration.

Thanks guys for keeping thing active around here. I hope to be back and contributing soon.

You know, Catlady, I had a flash of memory of you asking about how House would act at the dentist (or something like that) and somebody else suggested it be posted as a fic challenge, do you want to issue that as a challenge?
