Title: #2
Description: House's inner child

rtlemurs - September 20, 2006 02:59 PM (GMT)
I am absolutely dying to read some lighter House. I love House's inner nine year old and it's the highlight for me of any show when it peeks out and throws a spitball at someone being all pompuous and self absorbed.

With that in mind I'd like to issue a challenge. A few more parameters than the first but still pretty wide open.

First, the main theme is House's inner child. It must involve at least one other character on the show and an original character. It must contain the line "I double-dog dare you!" and House's yo-yo. I'd prefer it to be set at work (because that makes it so much more inappropriate and funny), but if you have a great idea for outside of work I'm game!

As far as length, whatever you feel you can handle and finish by October 13th.

Please entertain me!! ;)

I like writing, I really do. I don't know if I am able to write an Englsih story, but I think it's worth a try ;) . I've written much in German - whodunits, thrillers and some stories about court and that stuff - in a style where you had to read a sentence three times and use a foreign-words-dictionary if you want to understand it  , I'm fond of that stuff you've to know :P (So, I fear in English it'd be very trivial ...)
And there's one question, what does "I double-dog dare you!" mean? ^_^
Best wishes,
Kater

Hmmm, Not sure I'll be able to convey the whole meaning of it but I'll give it a shot.

Usually, or at least in my experience, a dare is usually issued when the feat being attempted is either really stupid and embarassing or extremely dangerous and carries either physical harm or punishment of some type if you fail to accoplish the task or get caught doing it.

A double-dog dare is the top level dare, and more of a challenge to one's manhood, womanhood, whatever you want to call it. Basically questioning your courage.

Example, I dare you to run across a busy highway. You don't really want to because you're afraid to get run over. I dare you for much the same reason, I don't want to get run over but I want to embarass you.

So, to save face and keep from doing it you can double-dare me. But that carries the risk of me double-dog daring you. Which is the top of the chain. You either do it or are branded a coward.

But if you hesitate long enough I, or someone else may jump in and double dare you at which point the final double-dog dare is a great out and you can make the original dare issuer prove their metal.

It's a very little boy thing and usual involves nothing as dangerous as running across a busy highway but things like putting a toad in the teachers desk or writing something nasty on the blackboard etc. Which is why I can so clearly see House being involved in such an exchange!

I hope that helps. For a better example there is a scene in the movie "A Christmas Story" where the whole dare and double-dog dare thing is played out/explained. The scene involves sticking your tongue on a metal flagpole in the middle of winter. Very funny and really explains the nine year old world of "proving yourself".

hmmmm, "I double-dog dare you!" and House's yo-yo. Sounds interesting B) . I'm going to have to mull on that for a bit. I will certainly try to entertain you. Does House's yo-yo play a cameo or a pivotal part in this story?

Also, you said House (acting as a child) another main character, and an original character are to be in this, but can other main characters have small or cameo appearances too?

Any size part you would like. Could be just a small mention up to a major plot point, whatever works for you. I just like yo-yo's and I think the big tennis ball is way overused and overrated. :P

Absolutely.

Just thought I'd put up a little reminder, we're coming up on the one week to go mark. Is that still good or do you need more time?

hummmm.....

I'm going to have to get back to you on that at the end of this weekend. I do have a plot going on, but I'm going to have to finish writing it and do a massive clean up revision.

Okay, no problem. In fact I think you may be the only one working on this one :(

But that's not all bad, I'll savor it all the more because of that! :D

Your due date looked so good back in September. Now that there is less than a week to go, I see that I can't make the deadline. I have a bunch of stuff going on including a brand new job and they must come first. Do you care that I push for the end of October?

rtlemurs - October 9, 2006 02:42 PM (GMT)
I had thought about a late October deadline to begin with but didn't want to hog the whole month! That's fine, RL and a new job should be prioity.

Thanks!

PS email to come shortly! :)
