Title: doesn't have a title yet...

it has everything (words with letters in, paragraphs, even punctuation!) except a good ending and a title... but please tell me what you think...

“Hi, I’m here for some Vicodin... I’ve got a perscription.”

Funny how calm and level his voice was, when really he wanted to do was leap on the counter, grab the pharmacist by the neck and scream “GIVE ME THE DAMN VICODIN!” in his face. Instead he gripped his cane a little harder until white lines ran down his knuckles.
The pharmacist was in no big hurry. ‘Haughty’ was the first word that sprang to mind - the first word that wasn’t derived from a four-letter one, anyway. House half-expected him to look up at any minute and say, ‘This is only a part-time job - I can do much better than this. This is SO beneath me.’ House vaguely remembered hearing someone call him Rob yesterday.

“Everything seems to be in order.” said Rob. “I just need some kind of identification.”
“I’m sorry?”

“New policy...” Rob tapped a laminated sheet tacked to the counter, which House was obviously supposed to have read. “I just need something with your name and picture on it.”

“I’m Doctor Gregory House,” said House slowly. “You tripped me over in a corridor yesterday and I called you an asshole, remember?”

“Sure, you look like him,” said Rob airily. “But can you prove it?”

House could feel pain building up in his leg like a volcano about to erupt. He staggered slightly, gripped the counter and said dangerously, “If I don’t get some Vicodin soon then I’m afraid I’m going to have to kill someone.”

“I need some form of identification-”

“AND I NEED VICODIN!”

“Whoa, chill,” cried Rob, and in those two syllables flew up several notches on House’s Hate-ometer.

House looked around frantically. Where these people planted round the hospital specifically to rile him?

Suddenly he caught sight of Cuddy exiting her office with a clipboard.

House spun round, burst through the door of the pharmacy and yelled, “Cuddy, isn’t my name Greg House?”

Oh my God he’s finally cracked, thought Cuddy. “Yes, it is.”

“See?” Cried House. “She thinks I’m Dr House, and she knows everything.”

“Okay, okay.” said Rob. “I just didn’t think you were a doctor because of your - your -”

Rob’s gaze involuntarily slipped downwards.

“What?”

“Your- your-”

“Stylish footwear?”

“No - your-”

“Handsome appearance?”

“Um, no, your-”

“My what?”

“CANE,” Rob suddenly yelled.

“Ooh, that’s nasty,” said House in a (fake) horrified voice. “That’s discriminating against disabled people, saying I can’t be a doctor. I’m sure... whoever employs you... will be interested to hear about your views on crip’ career options.”

Rob paled. “Oh, no, I didn’t mean that, Doctor House...” he ducked under the counter (to get Vicodin or escape from House?) and emerged with a small bottle that House knew well. “Here... er... have a nice day.”

House walked out the pharmacy and stopped against the wall to open the bottle and dry swallow one of the tiny pills.

:D

It's pretty good -- even without a title.

Just a quick note: It's spelled "prescription" not "perscription"

Also, House seems a little off in this, if it's meant to be something taking place recently. Perhaps it was something that took place soon after the infarction? He seems to be uncomfortable with getting the Vicodin prescription filled, almost as if he's not accustomed to it.

And whle pharmacy techs may seem like losers, it's actually a job that requires a four-year degree and licensing, so Rob seems a little too much like a stoner here. I can see if he were new, he's be overly officious -- getting House's dander up that way though.

I don't know if you were planning on tweaking it or not, but just a couple of ideas if you are.

Cool. Nothing like brute force to get you meds. I have a little question about when this took place. Was this right after House wrote the prescription from Wilson's pad? House's emphasis on having a prescription feels forced, like his prescription was not actually legitimate.

But overall good. I like.
