Title: Safe

Some quick notes:
* More of the "Odd Couple" pairing of House and Wilson...love it!
* Cameron was awful snarky in this episode. Part of me liked that Cameron grew some backbone, the other part of me was even more annoyed with her than before. I haven't decided yet... <_<
* I really liked Foreman in this episode. He gave as good as he took. What did exactly happen when he was eight? Foreshadowing, anyone...

Overall good. Cam with back bone is new. Foreman definitely wants to be House for all that he dislikes him--then of course I have a similar relationship with one of my professors;she drives me nuts and yet I want to be her when I grow up.
The odd couple bits were good. Though I was waiting for them to go into a dishwashing standoff, where each refuses to do dishes until all the dishes in the place are in the sink, then they go to washing only the dishes they have to use on an as-needed basis. I guess Wilson, is too compulsive--and I would be too though the above situation has been known to happen especially among bachelors.
I'm glad that Wilson finally played a prank on House but messing with the cane disturbed me. They didn't play it as especially painful and House was smiling, but it would hurt alot. Tile floors hurt regardless--as I, as the queen of the klutzes, can testify--, landing on something that already hurts would only be worse. I'm starting to be disturbed along with Magdala that people who should care about House enjoy inflicting pain on him, or watching others inflict it on him.
And I so called that the stethoscope on the door was a ruse either to see how long Wilson would stand out on the stoop or to get some time to think in peace, possibly both.
CaitDC - April 5, 2006 06:13 AM (GMT)
I absolutely loved the whiteboard/black marker thing. I yelled "Go Foreman!" when I heard that...
I laughed my head off during this episode, almost non-stop. I must admit, at the end when the elevator doors opened, I covered my eyes.
I loved Cameron's line to Chase "If it had been you giving the sample we'd be done already." Hehehe, that was so great.
Also the Cane-break. House had that coming, and I'm glad Wilson grew a bit of backbone, nevermind Cameron. He needs to quit letting House mooch off of him.
I got mad at the patient. Once that cut on her chest heals it'll hardly be noticable. I've got one from a surgery that's had to be done over and over again so it's a bit more noticable, and I got really mad at her saying she's ugly. The damn thing hasn't even healed yet! Shut up!
Ah, what else? Oh yeah! House kept Steve! I was wondering when Steve would pop back up!
I loved Wilson's face when House said (in response to the stethoscope on the door) "Who said it had to be with anyone?" I laughed so much...
Houses fix job on the cane was funny too. And House sitting in Wilson-pee. In fact, much props to Wilson this episode!
Can't wait for next week. That little boy was soooooo cute! :P

I wonder if after almost 2 seasons, House is being a bad influence on his team -- they all seem to be developing a snarky streak.
And I definitely thought the patient this week (I'm as bad as House -- I have a hard time remembering their names) is going to need some counseling. She has some serious issues. I liked how the episode dealt with the mother though. She didn't change much, but to the viewer she went from a monster to a very sympathetic character.
Kind of like House himself. The first time I saw the show, I thought he was a real jerk. Now that I've seen a few episodes, I see the human behind the jerk.

I looooved this episode. Especially the frat-boy pranks. Hand in the warm water? That's a classic. I'm glad Wilson finally grew a sense of humor and gave House what he had coming to him. I guess this mean's Julie's getting the boot. That's what, wife #3? If he gets married again, House should beat him with the cane.
Foreman has been my favorite duckling since about 2/3 the way through the first season, but I think I'm going to make it official now. He's the only one of the bunch I can really see working on his own as an independent doctor.
And of course TPotW was the girl from Pete and Pete, which is amuses me.
Am I the only one who howled when they elevator doors opened and they caught House 'with his hand in the cookie jar' so to speak?
"Told you it would be even better the second time!"

How great was that??
House and Wilson – top, top stuff! I’ll defend Wilson on the cane sawing (probably picked up some tip from NYW) – House’s conversation with Cameron from TB or Not TB
People who know me see me as an ass, treat me as an ass. People who don’t know me see a cripple, treat me as a cripple.
Wilson picking the cane for a comeback is fair game under House Rules- I think he’d be far more upset to think of it his disability putting anything off limits. I’d imagine House feels the one thing worse than being crippled is being treated as such. As for Wilson not caring – it’s another one of the wonderfully subtle aspects of their friendship. I give you the MRI ‘House, this is God’ scene- it was hugely funny but it also struck me as Wilson knowing House was worried. We see House looking pensive before Wilson speaks and he humour is the best way to get him to relax. I know that makes me two-faced because I was cheesed with Cuddy in Skin Deep but I think it is different.
Loved the stethoscope –too much time served at boarding school -a tie on the door meant it indicated ‘the handyman’s half hour’ – I almost expected House to have nicked one of Wilson’s many for the task. House fishing used plates out of the oven was great too and loved that he had deleted a further two messages from the estate agent - top drawer. :D
After a few ep’s of winding me up – I liked Cameron a lot tonight she was really funny with her Chase ‘if that was you, he’d be done in five’ line. Foreman seems extra uptight but I liked that he helped out with the Magical Tick Hunt in the end.
Do House and Wilson have a baby stashed somewhere? House appeared to be drinking something out of a baby bottle at the start? Or maybe Tommy Tipper sponsors the show?
Overall a lighter ep -I love that they can do all things so well
pillpopdoc - April 5, 2006 12:41 PM (GMT)
This week's ep. was smashing! My husband is starting to watch with me! He's starting to enjoy the show!
I loved the joke-a-thon between Greg and James! I knew it was only a matter of time before Wilson started fighting fire with fire! The cane snap was classic! (Guess there was no steel rod in that one, eh?)
It's funny how they are turning into "The Odd Couple." I wonder what House's ture motive is behind trying to get James to stay at his place. Is it because House just wants to have his friend there to care for him and bare the brunt of his misery and loneleness, or is he trying to be there for Wilson by forcing him to face his enevitible divorce. Personally, I think it's a bit of both. House just went through a heart-wrenching break-up with Stacy. You know what they say, "Misery loves company." Especially when company makes delicious, hot meals and then cleans up after.
Is it my imagination or is Cuddy and Huse coming to more hostile blows? It just seems like she is not cutting him his usual slack. I know the thong panty comment didn't help things between them. Did you se the look on her face when he found the tick? A large serving of crow was on her dinner plate that night. Along with a nice slice of 'humble pie' for desert. Any thoughts on this?
The elevator scene between House and Foreman was really tense! I was almose biting my nails when Greg planted the bottom of his cane in Foreman's chest and shoved him back against the wall. I was waiting for them to come to blows! Thank goodness Foreman decided to give House his three minutes. The tick scene was sooo funny! Way more Dramatic!
House-isms ran rampant last night! A few of my faves were:
"Life sucks! You mights as well find something to smile about."
"There's a reason they call it the 'white board'."
"That's the great thing about being an adult...you never really have to do anything."
Hot Beef with a side dish anyone?
See you all around the board!

All in all a great episode.
There isn't much more to say about it that hasn't already been said except for some reason everyone keeps missing my favorite actor on the show....coma guy. Anytime they're in his room I can't help but lose it.
Take care,

I'm so new to the show, I didn't even realize coma guy was a regular. Is he going to have some whopping stories to tell when he wakes up?
I've been thinking about the House/Wilson practical jokes, and there's something about Wilson's expression at the end when House falls ... He didn't seem to be enjoying himself. Of course, that could just be his standard facial expression, and I just don't know yet how to interpret it.

TelegramSam - April 5, 2006 04:50 PM (GMT)
I noticed Wilson's lack of amusement at the cane gag too.
I think the difference is that when House was pranking Wilson, it was just for the sake of yanking Wilson's chain, but when Wilson pranked House, he was trying to prove some kind of point, it was more personal.
I'm not sure exactly what Wilson was trying to convey though.
Narsil - April 5, 2006 05:32 PM (GMT)
This ep was indeed awesome. :)
I think that Wilson's not looking amused was probably a momentary concern thing - House wasn't laughing, so he wasn't quite sure if it was ok. I mean, it did look like it hurt. But the tension just lasted a second. I agree with Benj that it was really probably something House would have appreciated - Wilson didn't hold back because he's crippled.
Lily - April 5, 2006 10:10 PM (GMT)
Funny episode. What was with all the sex jokes? I guess it's nothing new, but this time it was like there was one every two lines. Not that they weren't funny. I giggled so much my sides hurt by the end.
Okay, House's pranks were funny to watch, but if I were Wilson I might have seriously killed him. Maybe it's because I'm a girl, but that kind of thing irritates the *$&# out of me. I wonder if House'll stop now that he's provoked a reaction? I liked how he taped his cane back together in the end. :P
Cameron was taking the snark initiative a lot more than usual. For some reason, though, I just get even more irritated at her when she does that. Although the "we would've been done by now" was funny.
Poor Foreman. No one wants to listen to his story. :( We had to sit through House's one about Egypt last time; I don't see why we couldn't have given Foreman a couple of minutes to monologue. It'll probably end up being sigificant later and then they'll wish they'd listened. <_<
My favorite line was "My girlfriend gets sick, she just gives me the prescription."
Cant always get what you want - April 6, 2006 12:55 AM (GMT)
I LOVED this episode!! I think some more of the old personalities we all loved in season one crept back in w/out us even knowing :)
Loved all the pranks...house's own way of helping wilson thru his hard time.
Some great snarks ensued too :)
I cant believe the number of folks in the yahoo boards that didnt know WHY wilson suggested House not sit on the couch "exactly there". Come on folks! Were you not a kid once? Who hasnt done that at a sleep over! All he needed was to throw Wilson's jockey into the freezer and he'd have it complete ;)
I liked Chases' snarky remark to Cameron about the Jane/Tarzan thing. She thought she was being so clever and he immediately comes up with a more logical and obvious answer.....hmmmm who does that sound like? hehehehe.
House's chat w/the boyfriend was good too. Gee...wonder who the administrater he referred to was? ;)
And the cane trick...LOL! Notice how not ONE soul tried to help him up!
Good episode, great snarks...a fanfreakintastic smile from house near the end.....two thumbs up and a stand up applause :)

A coworker saw the previews and wanted to know why House was kidnapping the girl in the elevator. I just had to tell her about the tick hunt. When I got to the point where the elevator doors opened and House found the tick just in time, she said, "Well, ticks do like warm places."

<embarasses> It took me a while to figure out why Wilson told House not to sit there too <embarassed>.
I know about the hand in the water trick and what it's supposed to induce--although I thought someone proved it doesn't work-- but for some reason didn't make that connection. I thought Wilson had, intenionally, put something on the sofa for another prank (say glue or food coloring or plain water) and then changed his mind.
The reason why the cane sawing bothered me was not so much that it was messing with the disability. It was more the possibility that House could have really gotten hurt. I'm not a practical joker I guess, but I tend to eschew the ones that could result in someone getting hurt. If Wilson had hid the cane(s) or put something slimy on the handle I wouldn't have wondered. Causing one to think they have lost their mind on the other hand I'm totally in favor and am considering doing so to an annoying neighbor (wasn't that flower pot on the left yesterday; now it's back again; hey why do the rocks in my garden form an arrow pointing at the car?)
Ultimately, I guess since House looked neither upset nor hurt, we aren't supposed to worry about it either, so I won't. Pardon me for going too deep on things, an undergraduate degree in English will do that to you. :P
I actually wanted the "dish stand off" to occur and wondered what House was doing with a "sippy cup". Apparently they have started making larger versions thereof for adults because people were using the large sized kid's ones anyway--they would come in handy when carrying a drink around, especially if you are spill prone as I am. But what was in it? It looked like milk, but why store it in another container besides the carton and then it looked like Wilson was taking it in to work. That seems odd too even in light of the guy I went to high school with who seemingly drank a quart of milk/chocolate milk each day at lunch, directly from the carton purchased at the convenience store across the street.
prplchknz - April 6, 2006 01:40 PM (GMT)
I liked the episode but something about kinda lowered my infaturation towards Wilson. Maybe because he's no longer married and that just isn't as exciting to fantasize about. But he's still yummmmmm especially since he cooks. I love Wilson and House living together it's so entertaining.
The girl's parents were over protective. I understand that she had a heart transplant but even the doctors said she could go back to school. That bothers me--over protective parents--most of the kids who have over protective parents find ways around their parents rules and are more rebellious then ones who don't.

Oh, I agree, Catlady. It kind of bothered me too. It didn't even cross my mind at first that it was a prank from Wilson; I just thought, "What the hell just happened? Is he ok?" He could have been hurt (it must have hurt at least a little) and then he would have had to struggle to get up on his own and hobble around until he found some tape. (They're both lucky that it conveniently didn't break until after he had solved the case!)
But he did laugh about it so, yeah, I don't think we're supposed to be bothered or concerned. I think he's happy that Wilson has evened the score, happy that his plan to cheer up/distract Wilson a little from the divorce thing has succeeded at least somewhat, and probably also happy that Wilson didn't coddle him. You know, I believe it was Benj who pointed out before that House's ability to forgive and take crap as good as he gives it is one of the qualities that really makes him likeable. He never seems to really mind when people retalliate against him (for example, the three times we've seen him be assaulted by a patient) because he knows he was asking for it.

Is it just me, or did House/Hugh sound like he had a cold through the whole episode...?
First thing I noticed...
Taruia - April 8, 2006 02:44 AM (GMT)
He did sound a little stuffed up, but I know that it's starting to be allergy season, so it's most likely that...but yeah I noticed it too!

Obviously haven't seen this ep yet... but the 'stuffed-up-ness' was the first thing I noticed when I watched Spin. He sounded like he had a slight cold/hayfever in that too.
RealRazumihin - April 8, 2006 04:53 PM (GMT)
Ok - Wilson must have learned *a lot* about woodworking from House's New Yankee Workshop subscription, b/c how did he get the cane to break RIGHT THEN instead of when Foreman and House were playing tug-o-war with it in the elevator?
Cane sawed 3cm deep with hacksaw 4mm thick + coefficient of Forman's grip + House exiting elevator into hallway = kaboom
That was the only thing that seemed slightly unrealistic :D
Very funny ep. Though even as House was pulling the warm water prank, I had to ask, "Does he realize what he's doing to his OWN COUCH???" Ew. But as a famous doc, he can prolly afford another. Too funny, how even when Wilson got back at him with "You may not want to sit . . . . exactly there." House took what looked like Wilson's pillow to sit on.
All around great snark. Am surprised Chase didn't argue about "we'd be done by now" comment by pointing out how high she was at the time.
Foreman rules. I cheered when he grabbed "the black marker." Stick it to the man!
Looks like House's usual method of going too far worked just fine, esp. with Wilson, who is clearly more of a back-down, avoid conflict kinda guy. But this did the trick. House looked almost pleased that Wilson resorted to something so devious.
Benj - April 9, 2006 11:26 PM (GMT)
I love the cane snap scene; it’s funny and awesome that Wilson finally trumps House in the practical joker stakes. But I love it more because it nails House’s admirable qualities as well as any we’ve seen to date- his selflessness. House has a ton of flaws but arguably his most saving grace is that he isn’t looking for reward. On some levels he is, he loves to be right etc, but he can do something decent without looking around for applause. His needling Wilson won’t win him any ‘Best Mate Of The Year’ awards but it kind of should. Whilst it came off as being mean that he dismissed Wilson’s appeal for advice in Sex Kills, ultimately he has done something much more admirable.
He hasn’t looked to offer Wilson the benefit of his insight into his relationship problems; he helped him to see it himself. House clearly wanted Wilson to move past moping and feeling guilty into something more practical and less passive. Achieving that without a side helping of making himself look good is something perversely heroic and admirable. It’s not one of the more obvious traits that people look at the character and respect but I’d say it is one of the most endearing.
rtlemurs - April 12, 2006 02:17 PM (GMT)
Benj, you stated that so well. That's something I've felt about House for awhile but just couldn't put my finger on it, or put it into words.
I've always felt House was a teacher. As much as he hates people and being around them I think he has that need to try to better them by getting them to think and question. All of this without ever looking for allocades or approval. In fact, almost seeking the opposite.
That's the main reason I "put up" with House. There does seem to be a purpose to all of his meanness and snark. It's rarely, if ever, done just to be mean.
And my brief take on the cane scene. I did think it was a little off base in that even though House didn't get hurt and he may have wanted, been pleased, with the fact that Wilson didn't discount such a prank because of his disability. The fact remains that that prank carried a very high risk of really physically hurting House.
It's almost as if Wilson was acting out of anger more than even revenge. I can't believe that Wilson would want to actually hurt House so I think he was just angry and did the first thing that came to mind.
Now mind you, I LMAO at that scene and I do agree with what Benj said earlier about mates and not using House's disability as an excuse and all, but I think this kind of exemplifies what Benj just said above.
House does these things to push buttons and get people to think and do things. What was the purpose of vandalizing the cane? House pushed Wilson's buttons and finally got a response, and that's all that was, a response, a reaction. What did Wilson want to accomplish by doing that?
He had to know that wouldn't stop House, in fact it would probably encourage him. Or would it? This is becoming a more complex scene by the minute. Either that or I'm reading way too much into it!
