Title: Hello!
Description: Just introducing myself...

Hello everyone! I'm brand new to the board and wanted to say Hi. My name is Anna, I'm from Wisconsin, and have been a Hugh Laurie fan for a long time, so I was thrilled beyond belief to find that he was in a new show.
Great board you all have here. I love how you can discuss all the characters and the episodes.
I wasn't sure if I would like the show or not. I heard it was supposed to be a serious role, and for a comic actor to take a serious role, it sometimes doesn't work. But a lot of it is dry wit and wry humor and I love that kind of comedy. So, I was hooked immediately. :)
So.....great site! B)

Hey Doc!
Good to have you on board- House meets the Prince Regent is an interesting thought :) Big fan of Hugh's comedy stuff and been watching ABOFL reruns here - amazing how he can do both so well.
Enjoy the board and hope you have fun! :D

Thank you, Benj! :)
Blackadder III is my favorite of the series, mostly because of Prince George. It would be interesting if they were to meet up, wouldn't it?
So far, I'm having a blast puttering around and reading the threads.

Howdy and welcome! It's always nice to have another Hugh fan on board.
I find ther were hints of House in several characters he had already played. Mr. Palmer in Sense & Sensibility most notably. But Jools in Spooks had that edge to him as well. But it still absolutely amazes me the difference between the Prince Regent and House. It's so hard to believe it's the same guy. Bertie is a bit of a stretch too but I think not having the wig helped.
So how long have you been watching House?

I didn't get to see the series until the DVDs came out. I'm too cheap to have cable. ;)
Actually, we moved at the end of 2002 and put off getting even internet until mid-2003. After finding that we were ridiculously in debt due to a few unexpected emergencies and the loss of my husband's job (the reason why we moved), we decided that cable just wasn't really in the cards for us at that time. And we just never really got around to ordering it.
So, the real reason is because I'm too lazy to order it. (People lie, remember? :D )
I hope to get cable soon, though! Trying to make it through Season Two and waiting for it to come out on DVD is freaking killing me.

Hi DocRegent, welcome to the forum!
I think Hugh makes great use of his comedic roots in playing House. most notable is his sense of timing and snarky delivery but also key is his rubber-faced physical asides that he liberally sprinkles into his performance. of course his dramatic acting is what makes House more than a joke role but I'd really miss it if he didn't have the funny component.
I'm a little confused about your cable comments. unless your local area doesn't have a Fox affiliate, you don't need cable to enjoy House. while they've recently added a simultaneous syndicated cable run, those episodes are all reruns. the new ones are on "free" tv every Tues on Fox (mostly anyway, when not being pre-empted by bad singers or sports).

hey welcome, im guessing your from overseas especially the comment about not having cable affected your ability to watch.

I think I saw Wisconsin mentioned in her first post.

Yep. I'm from Wisconsin. We've used the rabbit ears antennas in the past and been fine. After moving, we were unable to get any reception. If we can get anything, it's really fuzzy and our TV will go to that blue screen.
So, hopefully soon we'll get cable.
