Title: Question on writer's challenge
Description: Details

So for those of you who have been doing the fanfiction thing and know or have participated in a writers challenge;
What exactly is it and how does it work?
My understanding is that someone puts out a somewhat detailed plot bunny and as many writers as have the urge, write a fic around it.
If this is correct, do they usually put out the plot bunny first or get the writers to sign up first? Or does it vary?
The reason I ask is, and I'll try to keep a long story short, I was reading an interesting book this weekend. In it there was a mention about how the Bible was written by so many authors and yet it is still a coherent piece of work. The themes run through it as if it were planned.
This got me to thinking about whether this could be seen in other books. Which of course lead me to House fanfiction. I wondered if by issuing a House challenge on a specific plot bunny if you could then take the resulting stories by the different authors and make a longer fic that would remain coherent and yet true to the original theme.
For example, issue a challenge where the writers are to write on what is going through both House and Stacy's minds during "the kiss" scene in FtC.
Could you get enough of a theme (this probably isn't the best word to use but I can't think of a better one right now) so that when you presented the finished "compilation" to someone who hadn't seen the show, they would have a clear idea of who these people are? And I mean in more ways than just the basic House is a doctor and Stacy is his now married exlove.
I just find that a bit mindblowing. I mean you can make all kinds of arguments one way or another and that's not what this is about. It's about the fact that we are all watching the same show but since we are all individuals we all will have a different perspective on what we see and how we interpret(SP?) it.
Can these varying perspectives be intertwined to give us a broader picture of any of the character on the show? And how accurate would it be?
Okay, I'm weird but I think this is really fascinating. Anyone else?

I've had weirder thoughts than that one ;) It's a really interesting idea- sometimes finding the plot/purporse is harder than finding words to fit- this 'challenge' idea seems to have a lot of potential as an aid to getting a piece started. No idea, sorry, on how this stuff works in practical terms - I haven't seen it before. Great idea though. :)

Okay, since I haven't really got a clear answer to how a challenge works I'll just make up my own rules. :D Give me a few days(which will turn into weeks) to plot it all out and then we'll have at it.
I still have to finish Cait's song fic challenge so if you all are up to it you may want to warm up and give that a try while I get my act together!

Forgive my faulty sleuthing, where on the site is Cait's song challenge?
Thanks much. And, I'm looking forward to the fic challenge too!

It's in the Plot Bunny Shelter, Here's a

How's Chapter 3 coming?
Pradon - March 7, 2006 11:09 PM (GMT)
Chapter, er, ,uh, 3?
*looks both directions and runs*
Aiiiieeeeeeee!!!!!
i.e., feather pen has not touched paper; fingers have not tapped keyboard; brain has not applied itself. Time stands still.
But...I will overcome! I will prevail! I will....write!
btw - I loved loved loved your email. So juicy. Love it! :D
I'm bizzy with Henry V these days. Have watched the Branagh version about 5 times. He cut out a LOT of the text, but I don't care, he's a joy to watch as HV. yum.
