The team tries to find out why a famous journalist is now speaking gibberish. Stacey and House travel to Baltimore to deal with House's Medicaid billings.

Will bite my tongue on a too-easy journalist joke.
I wonder who's confused about Medicaid, though: the spoiler writer or the show writers. Medicaid is a state agency, so House and Stacy would only need to go to Trenton.

I think, now I am no expert on this, but the Social Security cards, etc are in Baltimore, and since medecaid is a program that is for people on SSI, maybe that's why they had to go to Baltimore. But I could be wrong.

If he's pissed off the Feds he's in trouble...
Trenton isn't far enough away...
Armchair Elvis - December 20, 2005 07:46 AM (GMT)
That was a brief synopsis. Can't wait to see it. :D

Medicaid bills? I'm figuring this ties up with the 'renewal of credentials' chat Stacy and House had in Spin? That's a reasonable excuse but the 'criminal record which will need some explaining' would have been more intriguing. I really hope that isn't a line that gets lost in the depths of time.
Baltimore must be the new Paris as I'm guessing we aren't going to spend the entire ep going through billing procedures. Which is sad- Wilson would have been the ideal escort for House as he is apparently up on his 'double entry book-keeping' skills and just how cool would a 'House and Wilson Do Baltimore' ep be? :)

Baltimore must be the new Paris
BWAHAHAHA!
Let me offer a Medicare 101, in case it might be helpful.
Medicare is a program run by the federal goverment to help eligible people with their doctor and hospital bills. Eligible people = generally all elderly people and those disabled people who qualify.
(If you are poor, you can also apply for your state's Medicaid program. For example, when patient Lucy Palermo from "The Socratic Method" was sick, she could apply for Medicare from the federal goverment and Medicaid from the State of New Jersey.)
As noted, Medicare covers pretty much every elder in the United States of America, as well as certain disabled people. So it's a huge program that pays out a LOT of money. And in recent years, they've been trying to tighten their belt. One of the ways they've been trying to do this is cracking down on waste, fraud, and abuse.
So they've been going after crooks who have been trying to defraud the government. But it also means that they've been going after hospitals and physicians that have been making mistakes in billing -- submitting bills with errors, for example, or submitting accurate bills past the deadline. If Medicare decides that you've been making a bad habit of billing incorrectly, they can deny the claim, fine you, or even prosecute.
So if Medicare's calling House on the carpet, House could be in trouble for waste (maybe admitting patients that Medicare thinks could have been treated as outpatients) or abuse (getting his bills in late or incorrectly.)
But if Medicaid's going after House, apparently New Jersey has annexed the State of Maryland, or at least the City of Baltimore. In which case someone should notify the Mayor of Baltimore, since he thinks he's running for Governor of Maryland and not Governor of New Jersey.
Oh, and House and Wilson in Baltimore would be a scream. Come to think of it, I bet House would love Baltimore. It's got pro sports, horse racing, good stuff to eat....
cutterdog - December 21, 2005 05:18 PM (GMT)
...sketchy neighborhoods...I can just imagine him drinking beer and eating his way through the great restaurants. (I'm thinking "Homocide: Life on the Streets" meets "House"=perfect scenario for snark and good times.
Who knows why he's got to go to Baltimore, but I think we can all imagine what a nightmare House's billing submissions must be--he can't even keep patient file's updated.

We reached for the stars and ended up in Baltimore
I remember this wonderful line from a rotten movie which was totally forgettable.
Poor Stacy she can't win a trick. She earns enough. I think she should take herself to Paris, stay in the best hotel, spend heaps of money and have a meaningless affair with the first guy she fancies.
At least I made House give her Singapore even if it was only fanfic. Her men seem to have given her nothing except blame and an awful lot of heartache. It's enough to make a girl rethink heterosexuality.

Just commenting on Medicaid... I'd always heard that the health system in America didn't have much in the way of public programs... I'd never heard of Medicaid, and what House thinks of it will be interesting. In Australia we have Medicare, everyone is eligible to recieve a rebate on Medical care.

Here's a more detailed synopsis of
, "Failure to Communicate," from the futon critic:
QUOTE
Journalist Fletcher Stone (guest star Michael O'Keefe) collapses at his editor's retirement party and hits his head on a table. When he comes to, his sentences don't make sense, and he is rushed to Princeton Plainsboro Teaching Hospital. Since House and Stacy are out of town defending House's Medicaid billings, the team struggles to solve the case on its own. Meanwhile, House and Stacy realize they still have feelings for each other, and when a storm comes through Baltimore, their return flight is cancelled and they are forced to share a hotel room together - further turning up the heat between them. Frustrated since he thinks he's speaking normally, Fletcher tries hopelessly to communicate with Foreman, Cameron and Chase, but they can't decipher what he's trying to tell them. As his organs rapidly deteriorate, the team enlists House's help to help crack the code to try to save Fletcher's life before it's too late in the "Failure to Communicate" episode of HOUSE Tuesday, Jan. 10 (9:00-10:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX.

Ah yes, and I hope you all caught the hot preview for this episode at the end of last nights repeat!!! :P How many think they will actually kiss or will the cell phone ring just in time to stop it again?! :( Just Kiss her already!!!
Coming to the end of the Stacy arc has been so much more fun than the Volger arc!! With Volger you kind of knew they were going to get rid of him and that would be the end of it. But with Stacy, even though I know she's leaving, the question remains as to how and in what state her and House's relationship will be in (not to mention her and Mark's). Will anything really get resolved? And from the writers and producers stand point, has this been successful enough that they may leave it open for a return?
I know some of you are growning right now but she isn't dead and she still has friends in the PP area (Wilson being one of them) I think it's a real possibility that they could drop her in and out on occasion. It will be interesting to see.

I saw it...can't wait! I got to admit though, I am curious as to how the producers will write Stacy out of the show. It's not an easy fix like with Vogler. I guess I'll just have to wait and see.

Ha- I saw the preview and all I can is 'Stacy, do him or you're gay'.
Seriously that hat is so hot, it's back and it's a proposition all in itself. :)
Armchair Elvis - January 2, 2006 12:27 PM (GMT)
Man. That hat. Those fingers.
Still, looking at Stacy. That Botox. I have a theory that House left her, after she spent all of their savings indulging her plastic surgery addiction. :D

Hey, funny's funny, and if it made you laugh I'm glad. Even the echoes of internet laughter are, well, funny.
I was half expecting someone to brand me with a scathing reply, something along the lines of
"Stacy can't help it! That BASTARD House drove her to Botox, giving her so many worry lines!"
or
"Next time you knock my pal Stacy, I've got a vaguely threatening email waiting for you in my outbox, so there, step up."
elfkey_echo - January 6, 2006 03:26 PM (GMT)
:D :D :D :D :D :D :D
On the side though, two things:
1. Failure to communicate actually happens as a disease! Wow. So, that's not just a "you don't understand me!" statement. Sweet. Except not, if you still think you can talk normally. Brain something-or-other?
2. WHY TUESDAYS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! But I shall find someone to tape it for me, as my current taper is quitting, due to circumstances on my part that can be found in the Off-topic lines.
3. (Whoops! three things) When does Stacey leave again? I'm thinking either it's setting up to be a "I love you, I can't work here" or "I hate you, I can't work here". And she's going to walk out of his life again. Sucky deal either way around.
4. House and Wilson do Baltimore :P :D   That says it all.
Benj - January 6, 2006 05:23 PM (GMT)
Argh! Just occured to me that House in Baltimore means no House/Wilson moments - that's horrible! :o
Okay, Mr Shore it's not too late.
Plot contrivance - Wilson takes a job as a bellboy at the House/Stacy Hotel Of Lurve/Doom (depending on your perspective). He can do a nose tackle intercept (sounds right??) , before they get all the way down, and show up with his 'safety first' rubbers, on a silver tray, in an untimely room service move.
Hey presto - everyone is happy! :) we get a House/Wilson fix and no 'OMGHouseisafatherWTF' moments to dread. Although Cameron would make a great nursery nurse. I'm sure playing surrogate to House's child would give her the chance for plenty of martyring as she looked with longing and sadness at what could have been.
