Revan The Great - January 19, 2006 03:17 AM (GMT)
Vizi, you're a traitor to the Pelopennese Wars! :o
Arminius the Terrible - January 20, 2006 12:28 AM (GMT)
You can't be a deserter or a traitor when the game is dead.
The game suffered three seperate deaths....and no additional necromacy can raise it.
1.Restart restart after first switch-a-thon .
2. Changing from Rise of Rome to Peloponesian War.
3.When the forum boards were shut down for 3 days.
That particular time frame was boring for all non Grecophiles.
The time is 500 AD........and the barbarians rule...............
Miborovsky - January 20, 2006 02:32 AM (GMT)
No Roman Empire playable?
Flowers&Razorwire - January 20, 2006 04:07 AM (GMT)
It takes place in 500 AD after the collapse of the WRE, There still is the ERE but somone already claimed them, but their are still some interesting plays, like ostrogoths who now rule italy, or romano-bretons.....

Although I find that time frame to be interesting, it is too narrow and doesn't provoke enough interest. SoR is more broad and will provoke more interest.
Revan The Great - January 21, 2006 12:11 AM (GMT)
Meh, it doesn't provoke my interest to be honest. I hate the period right after Rome Collapsed, the Barbarians just don't appeal to me.
Arminius the Terrible - January 21, 2006 12:28 AM (GMT)
Revan
Then the solution for you is to make you own.....or compromise...
Not all civilizations are Barbarians in the game.......It's the Dark Ages and traces of the Roman Empire still can be found.......say in places like Britania....
Revan The Great - January 21, 2006 07:00 AM (GMT)
Meh, I guess I could remake the old Rise of Rome/Pelopennese War boards into an RPG of my own.. :o
vizigothe - January 22, 2006 12:10 AM (GMT)
Revan The Great - January 22, 2006 12:24 AM (GMT)
Lol, sorry Vizi. I'll probably never want to play SoR no matter what you guys say, Barbarians just really don't appeal to me. ;)
vizigothe - January 22, 2006 12:30 AM (GMT)
i meant i quit that ****ing joke of a RPG
Pyromaniac - January 22, 2006 01:26 AM (GMT)

vizigothe - January 22, 2006 02:13 AM (GMT)

with banning PG
vizigothe - January 22, 2006 02:14 AM (GMT)

Emperor Napoleon - January 22, 2006 02:29 AM (GMT)
well, you aren't the first to have that problem with that guy ;)
Arminius the Terrible - January 22, 2006 02:52 AM (GMT)
Successors of Rome should have been left in the grave yard.
Necromancy has proven why the first one failed.
A new game in a different time era would have been a better idea....
Unfortunately, players in both Rise of Rome and Successors of Rome can not get along.
There may be one or more common factors.............

its not even just that....im sick of arguing with admins over msn......
i was angry at the time and i dont know if arminus's comment was directed at me or not but it doesnt matter......
i did my research on the visigoths and then i have to mince words online about where the ****ing came from and all sort of other stuff and then no one can make up their damn mind about anything and i get trapped in bad situations because i have 4 different people telling me different things.........
next time an RPG should not be announced until it is ready...work out the kinks than open it up to the damn public...i am more than happy to help post the ****ing national info shit so that players can just use that since they are often too ****ing lazy to look it up themselves....tho my math is bad and i cant possibly understand arminus's system for figuring out population
math just pisses me off....
ARGH!!!!
Arminius the Terrible - January 22, 2006 03:21 PM (GMT)
No Visagoth the Comment was directed at all the players not just one.
The population for the Visagoths was known from recorded history.
Their army size was also know from Roman Historians.
When the Goths entered the Roman Empire they numbered 100,000.
Their army was recorded as being 20,000 men
That is 1/5 or 20% of the population.
There were population estimated totals posted for 500 AD for Europe.
Since most were Germanic Barbarians, 20% was used.
The population and tribal base of 40,000 people was explained.if the population of an area is determined to be 4,000,000 people and we know there were 100 tribes located there, the each tribe = 40,000 people..
It may not be rocket science but it was an attempt to put a value on something that everyone could use.
In some cases finding a histroical record for a particular army size is almost impossible.
So in an attempt to put every thing into a common perspective, the barbarians were given a multiplier of .20 x population.
The other population matrix was developed from research.
It does not always work but is is close.
That is taking the known population of a given country in year 2000 AD and working backwards to 1 AD or beyond.
Lets save population of country XYZ = 85,000,000 in 2000 AD
That same population in 1 AD would be 4,250,000 (divide by 20)
To get the population in 500 AD divide by 15 = 5.7 million.A factor of +1 is added for every 100 years. The same population taken back to 400 BC would be 3.5 Million(divide by 24).
Although it's not perfect it is a matrix that works especially if all players are using it,and is better than most bullshit estimates posted by players with out a historical record..
The problem with role play in time period like the Dark Ages and earlier, there are a lot of gaps in recorded history especially out side of Greece and Rome or other civilized Empires.
The real problem is there are too many players who think that by attacking an unrole played position and conquering it with a single statement about some BS reason to join them or a weak attempt at a battle wrire up, tha tthe ycan then immediately assorb the people and army of that country into their own totals.
That is pure unadulterated bullshit...that players just can't comprehend.
No defeated nations willingly joins the enemy and fights for them unless the yfear death from the conqueror.Even then the patriots will form guerrilla bands and resistance fighters/partisans. Perhaps the economy could be included but the army would be disarmed and not trusted by the victor since the conquered would wait for the first change at freedom to turn on the enemy.
The Germans did it for the Romans. They hired them selves as Auxilla like Mercenaries and gained the Romans trust in wars against their own enemies and sometimes against their own race. But in the end, the same Goths Franks, and other Germans conquered by the Romans, where the victors in the fall of Rome....
There is a German statue commorating the destruction of the Roman Legios at Teutoburg Wald in 9AD. There is another Germania "Watch on the Rhine" Statue holding a sword and facing the West.
Thses became focal points for German unification.....and anyone who thinks the Germans ever forget their lost battles, only has to read a few decades worth of history to be reminded.
Revan The Great - January 23, 2006 04:55 AM (GMT)
Vizi does PG=PraetorianGuard?
If so, that's Parthian Warrior from RoR and Pelopennese
Arminius the Terrible - January 23, 2006 11:04 AM (GMT)

PraetorianGuard - January 24, 2006 01:34 PM (GMT)
Woah, There was a conspiracy to ban me and no one was man enough to come upfront and tell me?
Sick..
Arminius the Terrible - January 24, 2006 10:56 PM (GMT)
Worse than that PW......
I believe there is a mass conspiracy to boycott any new game you start as Admin.... :ph43r:
Perhaps this is the time to mend fences and reconcile differences. B)
PraetorianGuard - January 25, 2006 01:54 PM (GMT)
Looks like I was suspended, But it's past it's due date (22nd)

Arminius the Terrible - January 25, 2006 11:35 PM (GMT)

PraetorianGuard - January 28, 2006 05:16 PM (GMT)
