I went to a country show over the weekend which i try to attend most years as it gives me a change to meet up with some of the lads back home. This show is based mainly in doors and what i find hard to understand is 1,why do people bother to take their dogs around these building if their not part of the show ? and 2, what ever makes them let their dogs p.... all over peoples stands of clothing the walls ,doors and floors of every where in site? surely they do not allow them to do this all around their own private dwelling.
For the kindness of the dog would you not leave it in its own kennel or home and have someone let it out for a run if your going to be late home?
It annoys me too, if your dog is not part of the show don’t bring it. I know on some of the larger shows where people stay then it’s understandable as no one will be available to take care of it at home. The only other reason I can think why people bring them is just for wilily waving purposes. <_<
I can not understand why anyone wants to drag dogs around country fairs and the game fair , apart from the inconvenience its not fair on the animal,at a game fair at Broadlands back in the 80s we had arranged to meet a friend for lunch in the CLA enclosure , his wife at the time had delusions of grandeur, and insisted that they take their "gundog" i use the term loosely , it was phukin useless to put it bluntly, guarateed to ruin a drive in 10 seconds flat, anyway, four of us were sitting waiting for them to join us , Angela liked to be noticed , she came tripping across the grass area woo hooing , and waving when the "gundog" stopped alongside a table of a well to do looking group and deposited a pile of steaming brown stuff , it must have been saving it up for a week,we were trying not to laugh , Angela was shouting at husband Bob to hold the dog while apologizing to the people at the table while trying to scoop up the considerable steaming pile onto a couple of paper plates, just another reason not to take dogs .
I am totally at one with you on this point, I have absolutely no qualms with anyone who brings his/her dog along as they are entered into a competition etc but to bring a dog along otherwise is surely a bind to the owners.
I can sympathise with the stall owners who complain about the dogs who urinate on the clothing on show etc.
I have been to countless a national show with little or no problems it is only the county or game shows that attracts the problem.
This problem will be further highlighted following on from the docking of dogs act 2007 which comes into force in April 2007.
iIagree I think most people take them as a kind of status symbol (look at me i've got a pedigree gundog) They are the same sort of people that wear brand new shooting or riding clothes thinking they look the part, when actually they have (towny or amateur wrote all over them) Most normal people go to a country fair for a day off which to me would mean give the poor dog a day off too!
