Title: LATEST TAIL DOCKING THREAT!!!
Description: Wales

Garypco - January 8, 2007 07:57 AM (GMT)
TAIL DOCKING BAN THREAT

The Welsh Assembly Government has recently issued a consultation paper on The Docking of Working Dogs’ Tails (Wales) Regulations, December 2006.

Whilst it proposes an exemption for the docking of working spaniels and terriers the paper omits any exemption for hunt, point, retrieve breeds of gundog.

At a meeting with WAG civil servants and Wales Chief Veterinary Officer, BASC Director Wales Glynn Cook asked why HPR’s had been left off the list of specified dogs for exemption and was told ‘there is no evidence of their use as working dogs in Wales’.

BASC Wales urges all members to lobby their MP’s and AM’s to have HPR’s added to those working dogs exempted from a ban on tail docking before the end of the consultation period on 12th January 2007. "

"From Glyn Cook, BASC Wales:
"This is a plea to all working HPR owners and breeders in Wales. The
Welsh Assembly Government are not considering any exemption for the
tail docking of HPR breeds in Wales. They are not included in the
list of specified breeds in the consultation document on tail
docking in Wales. The consultation period ends on 12 January 2007.
The reason given by the Chief Veterinary Officer for Wales for the
omission of HPRs is that 'there is no evidence of their use as
working dogs in Wales'. Please, lobby your Assembly Member and MP to
get HPRs included in the exemption list. Please send me much needed
evidence of working HPRs in Wales and Wales based HPR breeders.
Thank you."

"Owners and breeders in Wales can send info to myself at the address
below. They should also lobby the Minister for Environment,
Planning and Countryside, Carwyn Jones AM, via email at
carwyn.jones@wales.gov.uk and also the chairman of the EPC
committee, Glyn Davies AM, at glyn.davies@wales.gov.uk as well as
their own local and regional Assembly Members and MPs.We have a very
short period before the end of the consultation period on 12 January
to make a case for the inclusion of HPRs in the list of exempted
working dogs in Wales.
Thanks again.

this is the email i have sent to some of the relevent welsh mp's

Apparently there is an email flying around, quoting hpr's are not being named under the exemption for the tail docking ban, as there is no evidence in wales that hpr's are being used for hunting and trialing.
I find this preposterous and underhand as being one of the many falconers/hunting men out there who regularly work hprs in wales, i keep hungarian vizsla's german weimeraners and german wire haired pointers, all these pointers would suffer greatly if i were unable to get them docked!

if this fact is true i wish to lobby against this point and place working hpr's under the exemption list, i believe we have until the 12 jan 2007 for this consultation period to end, this should give us plenty of time to have working hpr's placed under these exemptions...

i hope for a quick reply
