Title: Drinker Placement

This may sound like a stupid question to most of you but where do i need to place my drinkers for pheasants.
I havent had any experience with shoots that feed out to strips, we are going to try and feed from our release pens to cover strips, our previous keeper never did this (just drove the woods as a drive or into a strip which was then shot)as we are on flat land.
Which is the best position for the drinkers. In the release area or with the feeders as we move them.
Your all probably going to say both but the plan was to use IBC,s for the pheasants with a length of alcothene and 3 or 4 fountains of of it, we only have enough kit for 1 IBC at each release pen and it also wont be a 2 minute job moving them.
As always any help appreciated.

You have no option really, the birds will be released into the pen with no access to the outside of the pen until they grow there flight feathers (presuming they have been clipped). So put the water in the release pen, you can make some satellite drinkers easily enough to go outside if needed.

Water is as important as food. So the more drinkers you have the better. Half a five gallon drum is better than nothing but try to make some others up . A quick and easy header tank is a five gallon drum of the plastic sort fitted with a tubeless tyre valve a couple of inches from the bottom remember to take the guts out but keep the cap. The 1/4" pipe you use for drinkers will fit on to the valve you can then place these on a platform higher enuogh for gravity to work and you will be surprised how long they last. You can eihter make up spares so you change over the drum for a full one or just take a funnel and some drums and fill in situ. Hope this gives you something to work on. P.s black drums are better as they don't go green with the sun light. Happykeeper
