I'm off, in a day or two. Leaving the country and ~ far more important! ~ it'll mean I'll be off line for anything up to maybe a month! I am gonna So miss all this :(
Anyway, it seems firearms may be more attainable where I'm going and, if so, I hope to sort myself out. I'd get a 12 bore again, as a general 'Have Around', for that odd thing that may present itself on my land.
Then I'd like a pistol, for despatch. Now, I'm pretty sure I remember most of my Yank mates use a .22 and use that on Yote, never mind foxes. So .22 sounds good. But I've been advised, by a very experienced MAFF / DEFRA fox catcher, that there's nothing finer, for foxes, than a .32 Loose Ball. Opinions, please? And remember; I'd be looking at despatch from outside a cage, as well as in a wire. CBHK's that I've ever seen just won't fit.
Finally, of course, a rifle. What can I say? I recently fired one round through a .243 (OMFG! :o How loud Are those things?!) But, again; Isn't that the one you Lampy Shooty guys use? I understand there's a slightly bigger one, goes up a bit for Roe? I'm not interested in Roe. This'd be purely for fox. Would .243 be the one to look out for?
Cheers for any tips.
The legalities and ease of importing firearms into this country are not too bad, presuming you have an F.A.C. which covers what you wish to import. There aren’t many “non-forces” held pistols around nowadays and seem to be only held by professional deerstalkers or slaughtermen.
The .270 is probably the “bigger” rifle you mention, the .243 is a great all round rifle, for foxes and roe but if you want one for just foxes, you actually want to go smaller. A .222, .223, or a .22-250 are ideal,
If you want the details of how to legally import, I will let you know. The consequences of trying to bring one in illegally can be a lengthy spell at one of Her Majesties hotels.
Good luck on your trip, keep your powder dry and your arse to the wall.

Go for the 22/250 for foxes.
This calibre is devastating - this round has a very flat trajectory out to 300 yards and has minimal recoil for a centrefire round. The one drawback the 22/250 has in my opinion is the noise , if you think .243 is loud wait until you fire this baby - JESUS !!!!!! This can be overcome by the use of a moderator .I use a T8 reflex moderator on my sako 75 and this results in the rifle being comparable to an unmoderated .22 firing high velocity rounds.
;)
i fired a 243 last week for the first time ( o my god :o ) it was loud compared to my 17 hmr , but still great fun :D :D
i used to use .22.250 for foxes and to be honest dont think you will beat it to be honest flat trajectory and fast bullet only thing i may suggest is i prefered soft tip rather than hollow point.
also good for roe in scotland aswell if your interested in them lines
another top tip when out lamping foxes i used to always have shotgun on board using special sg cartridges for them lamp shy foxes.
