I was invited on a shoot by a freind down in hampshire thinking January pheasants .
I drove in the farm yard people dressed in jeans etc with guns over arms and not a dog in site. We split into 2 teams walk one stand one , great i thought lined out bit of noise few shots then the walkers came out holding two or three birds ,
Then the penny dropped who can run through the wood and get to the next drive so they can stand ,.I hope that you are getting the picture by now.
I think it would make more sense to have the beating team with guns in slips and to carry a stick so that they can concentrate on one thing at a time and giving some sport to the standing guns ...........
I do agree. I run our days similiar by having one team shooting and one standing any walking guns on the flanks are from the standing team. When it is a free for all you end up waiting for the walking guns looking for birds they've shot and people start getting funny because birds are shot going forward and all sorts. The day is about doing a job ,paying back thanks and having fun!!
