Description: best ammo for this rifle ????

Hi , I have recently bought a SAKO 75 stainless / synthetic 22/250.This has a t8 reflex moderator and leupold 6.5 - 20 x 50mm scope and harris bipod. The problem is that i struggle to get groups under 2" when sighting in at 100 yards.I have tried using Federal 55 grain softpoints and also Federal ballistic tips.
I have read so much about certain rifles liking certain makes of bullets. My question is - does anyone have this rifle and if so can you recommend a certain type of factory ammo.I do not home load at present but i do intend to start at some stage.
I can't blame my technique because my mate is an excellent shot and he also struggles with the groups.
Any suggestions ?????
Cheers
Barry.

Have you tried without the sound moderater on to eliminate this. Happykeeper

Yes , I have tried that but to be honest it makes the problem worse with "barrell flip" and the noise of the 22/250 is horrendous.

I've used a sako 22-250 for about ten years now and not had a problem. I will just go through a few things that we have had happen before. It may be the ammo just try another make in case, also if the scope is new have you got any movement where everything has settled down you may just give the screws a turn. Is the scope ok we've had brand new top quilty scopes which have had to go back. Try these and let me know.Happykeeper

There could be several reasons for not getting smaller groups.
First, is it a new or s/h outfit?
If is is new, it could be a scope problem (I also have had to return a scope that would not hold zero), also overtightening the scope clamps can happen. Have you broken the barrel in?
If it is s/h, there could be lot of other reasons.
I have been re-loading for .243's for many years and you can gain a significant amount of accuracy if it is done correctly, but you should be able to obtain less than 2" groups with factory ammo.
My current setup is CZ 550 American, T8 Reflex Moderator and Crusader Gen2+ Night Scope, which combined, is very heavy, but can still group at less than 1" at 100yds.
If you are still having problems, let me know and I will try to help.

Thanks Dave , The rifle is second hand but i have been assured that it has only fired 400 shots max.I think i have eliminated all the possible problems - scope , rings , moderator etc.To be honest i think it is down to the ammo - i don't think my rifle likes federal.I don't really want to buy several different types of rounds at nearly £20 per box.i was hoping that someone could recommend a certain type of bullet for this rifle.Someone who has actually used this rifle and got good groups with a certain make of ammo.

I have had problems with Federal Ammo in the past.
I would try and find some norma or remmington factory loaded rounds, stick to 55 grn heads. and for the time being lose the sound mod. until you find something that suits, only then refit the mod and give it another try.

MAKE SURE THAT THE RE IS NO RUBBISH TRAPPED BETWEEN THE WOODWORK AND BARREL,SLIDE A FIVE POUND NOTE UNDER THE BARREL AND MAKE SURE, EVEN THE SLIGHTEST BIT OF CRUD WILL AFFECT ACCURACY. THEN CHECK ALL THE SCREWS ARE PROPERLY TIGHTENED.
