So, IGN was right? That sucks.

http://movies.ign.com/articles/784/784721p1.html

What didn't you like about it? From impressions, mine is the way Peter's suit looks vs the comics and when it bonds with Brock, it still retains webbing.

Two, was that the symbiote in the movie made him act more agressive, vs the comic's trying to help him by taking him out to fight crime while sleeping.

At least they got the white spider symbol right.

Well I wouldnt call it horrible, but its definatly the weakest of the three movies, there were a number of things I didn't think were handeled well.

1. The Sandman: was he really the right villain for this movie? There are a number of other villains that I think could have filled his role bettter. When compared to earlier spiderman villains his character development is also pretty slipshod here. And no real explanation is given as to how he gets his powers. Why were those scientests conducting physics experiments with sand? And to top it off, his story kind of ends without much of a real resolution.

2. The symbiote: All we know is that this fell from space, nothing else is revealed about the symbiote in the movie, its just kind of there and were all just supposed to accept that with nothing else being revealed about it. Dr Conners seems mildly interested in it but when he's like "Gee this is kind of interesting peter, but you'd better not touch it." he should have been more like "Holy crap peter! Were going to be famous for discovering this, but you'd better not touch it!"

3. Peters an idiot: I'm not sure if this is intentional or not, but peter seems to be completely lost in his own world throughout the movie and misses some very obvious hints about when he's screwing up.

4. Venom: Venom was handeled better then sandman, but I'm not satisfied here. I was expecting sandman and Harry to be defeated earlier in the movie and the second half would be peter fighting venom on his own which is how things should have been but everyone comes in at the end for one big fight Peter & Harry vs Venom and sandman. Also I thought the way they got rid of venom was kind of lame. On the other hand if a sequal does get made, Venom might be able to come back because while it looked like he was vaporized by the bomb, there's also a possibility he may have just been blown out the window behind him. At the very least some of the symbiote almost certainly survived due to dr conners keeping the piece and also the fact that venoms webbing which was all over the place seemed to be made of the stuff.

5. Stuff that doesn't make sense: Harrys face had no time to heal and scarr over, it still should have been burnt. Also there's one scene where mary jane is talking to peter, the camera cuts away and suddenly he'd wearing his spiderman suit. Also the pumpkin bombs have inconsistant power.

I think there's only two ways this movie could have worked. One is if it had been split into two movies like that false internet rumor supposed with this one ending where Venom gets the symbiote while most of the story is focusing more on sandman and Harry. but this was a no go because sam Raimi wanted to wrap up the franchise with this movie.

The second way it could have worked is if sandman was cut out altogether and Harrys part in the movie was flushed out to be Peters primary antagonist in the first half of the movie.

To be frank, I knew this one was going to blow.

Look.. it's spiderman THREE. As in the third.

Lets look at some math, will we?
Matrix3 Blew.
X-man three blew.
Star wars 3 blew (as did most of the first trillogy)

on the other hand.
The third LotR movie was pretty good.

3 sucky 3rds.. 1 good 3rd. The odds are not stacked in favor of the 3rd movie in a franchise these days. If ever. It's like "Hey! Lets get even MORE money off of people wanting to see this stuff, and since it's the last movie in what we want to do, lets fuck everything over to piss them off for laughs"

I never thought I would say this, but Rodney from squirrel boy was right! 3 does hate fun! If three sees fun walking down the street it'll punch it so hard it'll put it in a coma!

I'll just see it because its tradition and cry in a corner when I get home :weep:

I agree. I'll go see it and add it to my collection, but I believe from what I've seen from the previews and reading, they could've done the suit much better. I believe they should've just focused on the symbiote and Venom this movie.

Thoughts?

Dry your tears and have a cold one! :beers:

i would not say this movie blew... the story didn't seen to transitition well to me tho... and there were alot of unnessary things in the movie i think. Well it owns x-men 3. i only went to that movie to see colossus and juggernaut fight. Colossus didnt do crap the movie and juggernaut knocks himself out running into a wall... wtf? cyclops bites it in thee first 4 mins too... back to spidy tho

Sandmans creation was gay tho like someone said. They never explain what they were trying to do with the stupid sand.

Harry was a pimp and didnt deserve to die. There were so many things he could of done besides get owned by his surf board... just like his dad....

venom was only in the movie for like 20 mins... lol.

Spidy got crushed by mega sand man like 4 times... he should be dead.... funny thing is the beam didnt even move when spidy was getting hit....

Actually I liked x-men 3 better, but I'm not a big fan of cyclops so that might be why.

Yeah spiders aren't supposed to be very impact resistant.

I would have to say I am not among the big fans of this movie either, though I was not going in expecting anything like the first one. Only went because my roommate is a spidey fan and I promised that I would go with the rest of the household. As for X-men 3.....never saw it and I hear I didn't miss much.

Personally I am looking more forward to Batman Dark Knight when it is finally released. Here's hoping that it doesn't suck....I'm looking at you Hollywood! :bang:

Sam Rami=dead man...

I think I'm going to rewrite the script of spider man 3 and email it to him...it was just that bad :weep:

weltall2 - May 12, 2007 10:35 PM (GMT)

This was not put together very well. The writers of the script should be shot. I mean the writing in show business is bad enough, and to have these writers for all intents and purposes sleepwalking through this is an insult. Further it seems that like always when stars go on to be superstars they lose the drive to excell. I say this because pretty much all the big stars are half assing everything. On the other hand I won't go and say the film sucked. That is just a cop out. The film had a lot of potential, and you see it through out the film desperatly trying to come out. That more than anything else angers me. Also the fact the first two movies were so good made it so this one had a lot to live up to. Additionally where is Stan Lee, I mean really he should have voiced any concerns before this was finished.
I really want to be fair, so I will add this to my comments. Thsi movie is something you have to anylyze to see if the mistakes made were honest ones, or born from laziness.

However Venom aspect had impressed me, it ws also kinda funny to see Brock jump into the sonic cage created by Spider-Man just as he tossed a bomb in there to finish off the symbiote. Brocks character was just stupid. Brock was idiotic to think he had any right to be angry with parker, after he used Photoshop to incriminate Spider-Man.
I mean if Parker hadn't found the evidence, eventually someone else would.

Sparky - May 12, 2007 10:52 PM (GMT)
It's strange you mentioning how Venom impressed when that particular character was actually forced on Sam Raimi to be put in, from what I've heard so far the movie sounds a bit thin trying to complete too much and it was sorta expected a little considering.
Sandman, Harry, Symbiote costume and Venom. It's too much stuffed in there, the symbiote and Venom could be the centerpiece of a spiderman film themselves and the fact Venoms only it for what I hear is about 20 minutes says to me he was pushed in at the last second. Froms whats been said about sandman he's only there for the asthetics and could abeen done with a lot more work.

I haven't seen this yet and only making conjecture it should be noted and nor am I trying to make excuse's for it in the hope it will be good if/when I see it, I'm just saying this seems like one of the plausible problem factors that contributed to the fault at hand.
