Chapter 2: Time to Get Medaphysical! (1)
The night was still, there was not a single breeze, a fact that sent shivers down Lonewolf’s spine as he jumped from roof top to roof top, Dynast following close behind him with the moon reflecting off his well polished body. They had been on the trail of the DVL type that Dynast had seen three nights previously, the Medabot which had left a scene of chaos where ever he appeared. People however did not know that it was a Medabot, but the Select Corps seemed to know very well what it was. So far Lonewolf had learnt that the DVL had a laser cannon on its arm, but had to have some other kind of power to cause the type of destruction it had been causing, they also knew that it had a Spiked Chain whip for a weapon. Lonewolf was not looking forward to facing it.
Finally Lonewolf jumped on to a roof where blue colored CAT type was standing.
Tora
Medafighter: Lonewolf
CAT-3120-2
Cat Type
Specialty: Electric Blasts
Other Attacks: Hyper Shock
Medal: Phoenix
“Have you seen anything unusual tonight Tora?” Lonewolf asked, pulling his cape tighter around him, there may not have been a breeze, but it still felt like it was below zero.
“No, who or whatever this Medabot is, it hasn’t been out tonight. Do you think maybe its moved on?” the CAT type asked her Medafighter curiously.
“I don’t think so, something tells me that this Medabot is here to stay. This thing must have a Medafighter so if we figure out who that is, we can take them out before anymore bad stuff happens. Keep an eye out you two and report to me immediately when and if you see this thing around. I don’t want this bloody thing in my city” Lonewolf said darkly.
“Don’t worry, we’ll drop him before he even realizes he was picked up” Dynast assured him confidently.
“I don’t want you fighting him!” Lonewolf hissed. “Wait for me before you engage him in battle and we’ll go at him together, but do not fight him by yourself is that understood you two?!” he demanded.
“Ok” Dynast said a little disappointedly, and with that Lonewolf jumped off the building and about half way down a cable shot out from the sleeve of long sleeved shirt and embedded in a wall, making him swing around and shoot another cable out from his other sleeve. He repeated this process until both his Medabots could no longer see him.
“Show off” Tora said dryly.

The Next Day
It was dark in the abandoned warehouse, rats ran rampant, rusty pipes stuck out of the ground and the slightest breeze seemed to be almost strong enough to knock it down. It was a demolition job just waiting to happen, so the mass of computer equipment against part of the wall seemed totally out of place as Nexus switched it on, a shadow cloaked figurer appearing on screen.
“Master” the Medabot bowed a little stiffly.
“Nexus, have you found the other Medals yet?” asked the figure, its voice deep, demanding and chilling.
“In the last three days I was able to find four of the eleven medals. I have been to every museum in the city and they do not have any of the medals you have me looking for, however I do believe the medals are here in the city, more specifically, being used in Medabots, so I intend to go to the City Robattle Tournament being held today. I’ve heard that some of the best will be there, some of them must possess rare medals. I will investigate the ones that show the most potential of having rare medals and when the time is right, I will strike and take their medals before they even have time to understand what happened” Nexus explained calmly, emotionlessly.
“Good Nexus, do not fail me though, or you’ll discover a new level of suffering” the person replied.
“Yes master” Nexus said as if clenching teeth. “May I ask what you intend to do with these medals?”
“No” said the ‘Master’ and the screen went blank.
“Damn him” Nexus spat and spun around and smashed his foot into a create, which promptly exploded into a thousand pieces upon impact. He let loose a furious howl of rage that seemed to shake the decaying warehouse. “I will not be treated like a slave forever! I will not be treated like just any Medabot! I am NEXUS!”

“Oh come on Arcsaber, that’s pathetic” Rune said as a loud clang filled the training room as Arcsaber fell on his butt, again. Rune sighed in frustration. “Get up and try again Arcsaber, its not that hard and god damn, you’re a close combat type Medabot for crying out loud! A spin kick shouldn’t be that hard for you!”
“Its too hard!” Arcsaber complained stubbornly, he had tried at least fifty times to do a spin kick, but kept losing his balance.
“Oh come on, do you see them complaining?” Rune asked as he pointed at Destiny and Ironclaw, who were executing perfect martial arts moves. Granted it had taken him weeks to train his brother and sister’s Medabots in just the basic martial arts he had learnt at the time. “Are you going to let them up stage you!?”
“Hell no!” Arcsaber declared dramatically.
“Then do it again! Arcsaber Spin Kick attack!” Rune ordered.
Arcsaber lifted his leg to execute the attack, but as he was about to bring it around, his other foot slipped and he fell flat on his face, again. This sparked another bout of angry shouting from the Medabot while his Medafighter just stood there and shook his head in exasperation.
“I give up” Rune said defeatedly and with his shoulders slumped he walked off, just as Kelly appeared at the door.
“Come on you lot or we’ll be late for the tournament” Kelly said with a frown. “Honestly, leaving training until the last minute.”
“I don’t need training” Arcsaber announced proudly.
“Oh yeah?” Rune asked dryly. “Lets see that spin kick again.”
“Alright, just come on or we’re going to be late!” Kelly snapped at them suddenly and with that rushed off in a huff, leaving Rune slightly confused for a second, then it downed on him and he turned a sickly pale color.
“Uh, oh” Rune said with a gulp.
“What is it?” Arcsaber asked quickly.
“We’re at DEFCON 1” Rune said carefully. “Please, Arcsaber, whatever you do, do not upset Kelly today or she’ll take you apart piece by piece with her bare hands, and then she’ll get started on me, do you understand? Behave yourself you go that?”
“COME ON!!” came one of Kelly’s angry shouts, Rune jumped and quickly hurried off with his Medabot just standing there a little puzzled, before he finally gave up trying to figure out what Rune meant and followed suit.
* * *
Almost half an hour later they pulled up in front of a large building with Robattling Center in big red letters, with masses of people piling into the center to either watch or participate in the tournament. Kelly and Trey got out of the limo with Destiny and Ironclaw following close behind them, but Rune and Arcsaber were with them.
“You know, I don’t think Rune was really happy about having to walk the rest of the way” Trey said as they walked past the people that were standing on the other side of ropes that had been put up to stop and unwanted quests from getting in. Only the people who were signed up for the tournament and those that had brought a ticket were allowed in. “I mean really did we have to drop him off, five blocks away?”
“Yes because someone could have seen changing into his costume if we had dropped him off closer to the center. Besides, its not that far away, a little walking won’t hurt him” Kelly told him as they walked into the lobby of the robattling center.
Three blocks away Rune was walking along with the black cloak on and the hood up over his head, hiding the ridiculous white head mask that Kelly had forced him to wear, he didn’t see why it was so important to be so dramatic about this. He was only coming out of retirement, not going to the moon!
“I swear Kelly! I don’t care if you are in a dangerous mood, I’ll get my revenge on the battle field” Rune promised heatedly, trying as best he could to ignore the strange looks he was receiving from other people that were out and about.
“Whoa, settle down dude” Arcsaber told him.
Ten or so minutes later they were standing out the front of the robattling center, everyone outside went quiet when he arrived, they all just stared at him in confusion and wonder, he felt even dumber for wearing the cloak, but he try to ignore them as best he could as he figure he was going to be getting a lot more weird stares once he entered the arena. He calmly walked to the door though where a man stood collecting spectator and competitor tickets and just as calmly he reached inside the cloak and pulled out his competitor ticket and handed it to the man who ripped off the tab and handed the remaining piece back to him.
“And just who are you suppose to be?” came a easily recognizable voice, he turned around and just as he expected, it was like someone had put a mirror in front of him. His brother Zeptha and his Medabot Zeris standing next to him, Rune bit his tongue, seriously tempted to say something sarcastic. “I think I would have recognized a freak like you around so tell me, who are you, amateur?”
The crowd outside was dead silent now, expecting a confrontation between the two Medafighters, they all knew Zeptha and knew what to expect, and if they had known it was Rune under the cloak, they would have known what to expect from him too, a couple of smart ass replies and then a challenge declared, but he knew that he couldn’t tip them off that was really him.
“Oh, too good to talk are we?” Zeptha asked as he slowly started to circle him. “Or maybe you’re a chicken and the prospect of speaking to the top Medafighter in Australia is too intimidating for you? Hmmm?”
Beneath the hood and behind the mask, Rune’s eyes flared with anger and he could no longer keep from saying anything, so by changing his voice just slightly he replied. “So tell me Zeptha, how’s it feel to be given the title of Australia’s top Medafighter, instead of earning it, like your brother did? Everyone in Australia, knows that you were given the title, had your brother not retired, you would still be in his shadow…” he suddenly had to stop as Zeptha’s fist shot out, he barely had time to move his head to the side. “A sore sport I presume?” he asked with a little smirk of satisfaction.
“How dare you insult me like that” Zeptha growled dangerously.
“Save it for the tournament” Rune replied and started inside. “Your going to need it.”
“Yeah! Prepare to kiss your bot goodbye” Arcsaber added confidently.
Rune and Arcsaber both proceeded to their designated area that was complete with one of the regen chambers that had been sent over from the house earlier that day for in between the battles so he could repair Arcsaber that much faster. He looked around and saw Kelly and Trey at the same “pit” area and he took out a small ear piece with a short microphone attached to it from his pocket and pressed a button on it as he was putting inside his ear.
“Be on the look out, Zeptha’s here and no doubt with what I just said to him he’s going to be looking to take it out on someone” Rune spoke softly into the piece.
“You spoke to him? Are you nuts?” his sister hissed at him.
“Don’t worry, I disguised my voice so he wouldn’t realize it was me, and besides he didn’t find out it was me anyway, so no harm done” he defended himself quickly as he watched other competitors walking around, seeing who he recognized and what kind of Medabot they were putting out. “Looks like theirs going to some worthy competition” he said as he spotted an old friend and his Medabot. “I hope I get to fight him…”
“Hey R” he looked up suddenly in alarm, but breathed a sigh of relief when he saw that was Zero, another old friend. “Whoa, settle down, didn’t mean to startle you man, just came over so you could check this out” the store clerk explained as he produced cloth wrapped object.
“How did you know it was me, and what is that?” Rune asked as he looked back and forth between the teen and the object.
“Oh, Trey told me when him and Kelly got here, they told me you’d be wearing a cloak with the hood up most likely. Anyway, as for this, well, check it out” Zero said as he unwrapped it and revealed a black medapart. It was an arm part, with a retractable sword, Rune had seen it in the catalogue that had come with Arcsaber, it was one of what would be many parts released for the STG Mk3 model, though it could be used by other Medabots, it worked at one hundred percent when used by a Mk3. “All yours for just a hundred and fifty dollars, it’s one of a couple sample parts I ordered in the Mk 3.”
“You mean Arcsaber” Rune nodded towards the Medabot that was sitting off in the corner watching Zero. “By the way, its medal is defective, you wouldn’t know anything about that would you?”
“Hey I found that medal in the storage room, I figured it fell out of a damaged package, I wasn’t going to be able to sell it and then Kelly and Trey came along and told me about their plan so I figured at least someone would put it to good use. If its defective you can trade it in if you want” Zero shrugged.
“I AM NOT DEFECTIVE!” Arcsaber roared.
“Oh so this is what it looks like activated. Nice, very nice, kind of makes me wish I had the money to buy one myself” the store clerk said as he looked Arcsaber over, circling him a couple of times as he inspected the Medabot, who didn’t look very happy about being something like an ornament to be stared at.
“Your father owns the 24M-Shop, order in two models and keep one for yourself” Rune suggested with a slight shrug.
“Already suggested that to my dad, he said no, doesn’t matter though I like the Medabot I have and I wouldn’t trade it in for anything. Anyway, are you going to buy this part or what? From what I’ve seen you might need some close range weaponry for some of your battles, at least this way you’ll have a balanced weapon system, close and long range abilities” Zero explained.
“Alright I’ll take it, but I won’t be able to pay for it until after the tournament, I left my wallet at home” Rune told him.
“Hey no problem, I know your good for it, besides I know where you live” his friend replied with an amused smile as he handed the part over to him.

Five wins into the tournament, Kelly was met with a slightly unexpected opponent, her own brother, Zeptha and she knew her chances of making it any further had just been ripped away from her. His cold eyes sent shivers down her spine as he watched her walking to the other side of the field with her Medabot.
“Well this is a pleasant surprise sister. When was the last time we robattled? Oh that’s right, it was last year when I made that harsh but true comment about our cowardly brother, tell me, is Rune still wallowing in his own self pity?” Zeptha asked with an evil grin.
“Keep talking wind bag” she growled at him dangerously, but then she smiled. “Besides, even if you beat me today, I can be happy in the fact that I know that you won’t win this tournament this year.”
Zeptha narrowed his eyes a little suspiciously. “What makes you so sure of that?”
“I heard that a top Medafighter was entered in this years tournament, you’ll soon find out any, so lets robattle!” she demanded.
“Medafighters Ready?! Medafighter Robattle!!” yelled the referee.
“I’ve been looking to take my frustrations out on someone, I suppose you’ll do just fine SISTER! Attack Mode Zeris!” Zeptha yelled and his Medabot charged forward.
Zeris
Medafighter: Zeptha Richardson/Daniels
DVL-42212
Devil Type
Specialty: Punching
Other Attacks: Hammer Fist
Medal: Devil
“Destiny, be careful of his Hammer Fist attack, that’s how he got us last time. Keep your distance and try to take him out with a shot to his legs, you take those out and he can’t fight you!” Kelly told her.
It was easier said then done though, Zeris was a pretty fast Medabot and had a decent amount of armor too, defeating him was no easy task, even Rune and Zeri had never beaten them quickly so Kelly wasn’t under the impression that she was going to be able to beat him.
Destiny somersaulted backwards to avoid Zeris’s Hammer Fist attack as the DVL type smashed its fist into the ground, cracking the ground around him. Destiny landed, fired off a volley of lasers and then shot off to the side as Zeris just barely avoided the shots and went after her, but was so busy trying to hit her that he didn’t notice the barrage of lasers she shot at back at him until it was too late and was hit by all of them and thrown backwards.
“Warning, 20% damage to main part! 50% to right arm, 30% damage to legs” warned Zeptha’s medawatch.
Zeptha’s eye twitched in annoyance. “Zeris don’t let her put any distance between you, if you do she could easily get the upper hand in this fight. When she turns to fire again, jump to the side and when you land, launch yourself at her before she has the time to react!”
* * *
While the battle raged and everyone watched the heated fight between brother and sister, no one noticed Nexus high above them in the rafters looking down on the fight with interest. He had been right about a few of the Medabots having rare medals, he had been able to feel the collected power as soon as he had entered the Robattle Center. He was surprised no one else could feel it, the air was thick with power. But the question was if they were any of the Rare Medals he was looking for, if they weren’t, then they were useless, however he could feel that the medal of the DVL type fighting now was one of them.
“I will make that Medal mine” Nexus growled lowly
* * *
Destiny back flipped as Zeris tried punching her again and as soon as she landed she was running again and shooting, but Zeris was able to read her movement now and was two steps ahead of her. Literally. He circled around the opposite direction before she even had time to register what he was doing and was soon met with a Hammer Fist to the torso, causing arcs of lightning to sprout between his fist and her torso. The force of the hit sent her flying backwards and almost out of the arena, but Zeris ran after and grabbed her by the foot just as she was about to fall out.
She looked at him in confusion. “Why?”
“Because I’m not finished yet” he spoke coldly and with that he swung her back into the arena and slammed her into the ground.
Destiny cried out as she hit the ground and tried to roll away, but Zeris still had hold of her foot, he then proceeded to slam her into the ground repeatedly in the cliché way.
“Warning, warning!!” Kelly’s watched warned loudly. “Massive damage to entire body, function cease imminent!!”
“Zeris, FINISH IT!” Zeptha roared.
Zeris suddenly stopped slamming Destiny into the ground, most of her body parts now inoperable due to the massive amounts of damage she had suffered, not to mention that most of her body was seriously cracked all over, even one of her eye optics had gone out. Suddenly Zeris jumped into the air while still holding on to her, and then with a powerful swing, he sent her flying towards the arena ground which she smashed into with a loud scream, and then Zeris came down behind her delivered a powerful Hammer Fist attack to her back and sent up a great dust cloud all around them. Seconds later, Destiny’s Medal popped out with clang.
“Function Ceased! The winner is Zeris!” the referee announced.
Kelly ran on to the field, pushing Zeris away from her fallen Medabot, she had tears in her eyes from watching Destiny so brutally beaten and just taking a closer look at the damage made it even worst. She looked at Zeptha eyes that caused even him to shrink away.
“Mark my words Zeptha, you are going to regret this day” she snarled, then collected her Medabot and medal and walked off back to her and Trey’s area to put Destiny in the regen chamber.
* * *
Rune had watched the whole thing with his anger and rage building up inside him, unable to unleash it, he was going to make Zeptha regret this day without a doubt. Even Arcsaber who stood beside him seemed to be angry at how the robattle had turned out. But both Medabot and Medafighter remembered that it was a fair win, Zeptha and Zeris were strong and skilled opponents, it was just that it was a cold hearted robattle, it was not an honorable win and they both made a silent promise that they would make it to the finals and beat him.
“The next robattle will be between Lisa Brennon and the Stranger” announced the commentator.
Rune winced at the stupid name Kelly had put down for him, but never the less he motioned for Arcsaber to follow him and they walked up on to the arena. Across from him he saw his opponent, Lisa, he knew this girl all too well. She was a stuck up snob, who knew she was a good a Medafighter and wasn’t afraid to gloat about it, she had tried several times in the past to seduce him with her body. She was as sleazy as she was beautiful, she wasn’t afraid to use her body to get what she wanted. To a certain point of course. Still Rune recognized her for what she was. A gold digging hussy.
“This should be interesting” Rune thought, he may not have respected her as a normal person, but as a Medafighter, he seriously respected her abilities.
“Medafighters Ready?! Medafighters Robattle!!”
“Attack mode Fatalis!!” Lisa screamed.
Fatalis
Medafighter: Lisa Brennon
LIG-35769
Liger Type
Specialty: Retractable Claws
Other Specialty: Movement Prediction
“Arcsaber, keep your guard up, Fatalis has been modified since the last time I saw her robattle, there’s something different about her. She’s extremely good at close combat fighting and her Medafighter has even trained her in gymnastics, making her even faster then you so keep your guard up at all times!” Rune warned his Medabot.
“What do I do then?” Arcsaber asked.
“Keep her at bay with your lasers and examine her movement pattern” Rune told him.
Arcsaber fired his laser cannon at the female Medabot, but like Rune predicted, she was extremely quick and avoided his lasers by flipping through the air like a gymnast and landed in front of him and swiped at him with her claws which slid out of her arms, but Arcsaber jumped back just in time.
“Whoa, you got babe” Arcsaber told her as he recovered from the attack.
Rune noticed something strange, Fatalis had what appeared to be a Disrupter installed on her head, but he knew for a fact that the disrupter was compatible with the Liger Type.
“Arcsaber, aim at her disrupter!” Rune ordered.
Arcsaber raised his arm and fired a barrage of lasers at her, but before their eyes Fatalis slipped through all the lasers without getting nicked once and appeared in front of Arcsaber just in time to deliver a kick to this torso, knocking him back.
“I knew it!” Rune said instantly. “Lisa upgraded Fatalis with a Hyper Reflex System, the system allows her to see all of her opponents attacks, giving off the illusion that she’s extremely fast, but in fact to her, everything around her is happening in slow motion, in the twenty first century this was otherwise known as Bullet Time. As long as system is active, she can seemingly predict any attack we throw at her, this match could end and she could win on account of points alone. Nice job Lisa, very nice indeed” he thought.
“Arrgghhh!” Arcsaber yelled as he was knocked backwards again.
“Arcsaber, get away from her, just avoid her for now, I need to think of a way, to get around this defense/offense combo of hers” Rune said calmly, trying to remember any weakness the HRS had that he could exploit.
Arcsaber flipped up from the ground and jumped out of the way just as Fatalis went to slice him apart with her claws, but only managed to make deep scratches in the ground. Arcsaber continued to run and jump just out of Fatalis reach, while Rune continued to observe Fatalis movements, he noticed that she jumped a lot, that could be used to an advantage maybe, but other then that there didn’t seem to be any weaknesses.
“Ok, Arcsaber, next time she jumps, get under her and attack! That’s the only time she’s at a disadvantage!” Rune ordered, bringing Arcsaber to a skidding halt as Fatalis launched herself into the air and prepared herself to attack with her claws poised ready to strike. “She’s going to come at you with a down claw attack, move five degrees back and counter with an upward slash!”
At the last possible second Arcsaber moved backwards as Rune instructed, causing Fatalis to attack the ground and lodge her claws in it as well, effectively trapping her. Wasting no time, Arcsaber slashed his sword around with lightning speed, and left a deep scratch in the HRS on Fatalis’s head. Seconds later sparks erupted from her head and she screamed as she backed away.
“Warning 90% damage to head! Function cease imminent!!!” Lisa’s watch warned.
“Fatalis!” Lisa yelled in alarm, unable to believe that her Medabot’s Hyper Reflex System had been beaten.
“Prepare to kiss your bot goodbye! Laser Cannon!!” Arcsaber yelled and fired his cannon rapidly, hitting his mark repeatedly, causing Fatalis to jerk with every shot until he ceased firing and she toppled forward, allowing her medal to pop out soon after.
“Function ceased! The winner is Arcsaber!” the referee announced and the crowd went up in cheer.
“Good job Arcsaber” Rune congratulated him and then they both went back to their designated area so Rune could make the necessary repairs to Arcsaber before the next match. “I wonder who we’ll be facing next” he couldn’t help but wonder.
* * *
Standing off in a corner watching the current robattle, he was dressed in a dark green leather jacket with a singlet underneath and camouflage designed pants, like the army wore. He had short blondish brown hair and a determined look in his eyes. He was surprised how neatly the stranger had taken out Fatalis’s HRS in the last battle, he knew that guy had to be skilled, and his Medabot’s abilities seemed to be more then what had already been shown in the few battles that the stranger and Arcsaber had been in.
“Finally, a tough competitor, I was getting tired of coming to a draw with Lisa all the time, and having Zeptha’s Medabot trash mine around” he thought to him self, he then looked over behind him into the shadows. “Are you ready for a hard robattle?”
At that moment the lights of the robattle center managed just for a seconds to reflect the light off a deadly looking laser cannon with a pair of yellow eyes seemingly coming to life within the shadows.
“I’m ready to kick some bot” answered a metallic voice.
To Be Continued Next Time In Medabots!!
More Medabots!! More Power!!
