LEGENDARY TRANSFORMERS PROPERTY FROM HASBRO WILL COME TO LIFE WITH LIVE ACTION FILM FROM DREAMWORKS AND PARAMOUNT
-- Steven Spielberg to Executive Produce --
LOS ANGELES and PAWTUCKET, R.I., July 23, 2004 - DreamWorks Pictures and Paramount Pictures, in association with Hasbro, Inc. (NYSE:HAS), will develop a live-action, motion picture based on the globally popular TRANSFORMERS franchise. Steven Spielberg will executive produce. The film is slated for release in the summer of 2006. Lorenzo di Bonaventura ("Constantine"), Don Murphy ("The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen") and Tom DeSanto ("X-Men" and "X2: X-Men United") are attached to produce.
DreamWorks Head of Production Adam Goodman stated, "Steven and everyone at DreamWorks are very excited about the prospect of expanding the world of TRANSFORMERS into the live-action feature film arena. The possibilities for a thrilling action adventure are virtually endless, and a film holds the definite promise of expanding an already worldwide fan base to new audiences."
"This is a tremendous franchise that offers us the opportunity to create an inventive and thrilling action-adventure film," said Donald De Line, Vice Chairman, Motion Picture Group and President of Paramount Pictures. "We're happy to work with our colleagues at DreamWorks to develop this project with Hasbro. There couldn't be a better team to bring the TRANSFORMERS to the big screen."
"We are truly fortunate to have the best talent in the entertainment industry on board for the TRANSFORMERS movie and are excited at the opportunities this powerful collaboration will bring to the property," said Brian Goldner, President of Hasbro's toys segment. "The TRANSFORMERS franchise has been successful in many entertainment arenas and we are thrilled to give millions of fans an extraordinary experience that's never been done in the history of the brand."
Hasbro will work with the production team, DreamWorks and Paramount on all aspects of the film's creative development, marketing, promotions and will manage merchandising in conjunction with the release of the film. Hasbro will also team up with Takara, who has been the co-developer of the TRANSFORMERS brand since its beginning in the early 1980s.
"The TRANSFORMERS brand has always struck a chord with fans around the world and remains one of our strongest franchises since it was introduced 20 years ago," said Keita Satoh, President and Chief Executive Officer of Takara. "Together with Hasbro, DreamWorks and Paramount, we will bring the property to a new level for fans in the Japanese market, as well as around the world." DreamWorks will distribute the film domestically, while Paramount will distribute internationally.
In 1984, the TRANSFORMERS brand took the world by storm with its compelling saga of the ROBOTS IN DISGUISE, and quickly became a childhood rite of passage with a tremendously successful toy line from Hasbro and Takara, comic book series, television program and animated feature film. Twenty years later, a new generation of kids has discovered the excitement of the TRANSFORMERS brand and the legendary characters, such as OPTIMUS PRIME and MEGATRON, that truly are "more than meets the eye." Today, the franchise features a popular toy line, an animated series on Cartoon Network and a chart-topping comic book series from Dreamwave Productions, which sold two million TRANSFORMERS comic books last year.

And before everyone asks.. YES, I HAVE heard of this... I acually knew this was in development for a few months now... And don't bother hiding.. It's Gen-1 transformers.. so there won't be any midget eroticons massaging energon into your secret places, nor will Optimus prime be a tank.. It'll be a movie about the good ol' days.. back when a cartoon accually ment something.. and wasn't just a 30 minute long commercial for toys..
Okay.. they've ALWAYS been half hour long commercials.. but back then they had the decency not to shove that fack up your ass sideways..
Yes, incase you havn't noticed.. I take the transformers WAY too seriously..
And NO, there will be NO transformers RPG.. Period.. This has allready been adressed by the administraction, and will not change anytime in the immediate future.

Yah, I have also known about the movie for a while now I was just waiting for it to be official. As for the trasformers rpg, i could not agree more, and if I wanted to play i would go somewhere else :P since there are plenty of them. Hey bloodstorm what characters do you want to see other then the main?
Mr Zektoll - July 29, 2004 02:27 AM (GMT)
Hmm I'm kind of skeptical about how good this will be for several reasons.
1. For the most part there arent very many good live action counterparts to anime (although the live action Zeiram was decent).
2. All the recent transformers productions (Armada/Energon/etc) have all been pretty bad, although like bloodstorm said this was supposed to be based on the original transformers so maybe it wont be jinxed by those.
On the other hand dreamworks is making it, and their recent productions have all been pretty good. So there is hope yet. I just hope this isn't going to be like that Thunderbirds movie, if anyone saw the original thunderbirds with the puppets, you know that the movie that came out recently has nothing to do witht he original series, so hopefully they wont do something stupid like that.

Who I want to see? Four words sums it up..
"Me Grimlok! Me King!"
Grimlok.. Leader of the dinobots and all around ass-kicker.. Next to Optimus, there is no transformer I ever loved quite as much as Grimlok..
Teknoguyver - July 29, 2004 02:42 AM (GMT)
"me girmlock kick butt"
god i loved that dino. i wanted to kill the one who turned him into a damn bulldozer in "RID"
Astroguyver - July 29, 2004 02:46 AM (GMT)
I got one word for you.
Metroplex.....
He is my altiem favorite next to computron. Also i have the DW poster of all the dino bots on my wall.
Baron of Guyvers - July 29, 2004 04:30 PM (GMT)
Grimlock was ok but he was always alittle too slow for my taste. The coolest transformer to me is soundwave simply based on his voice
BloodStorm - July 29, 2004 04:51 PM (GMT)
Grimlock may have been slow.. but atleast HE had personaloty..
The only real thing Soundwave has going for him were all the miniature tape-transformers he kept in his chest... Uh...
Anyone thing those guys were the pre-curser to minicons? They were smaller transformers that you put it the bigger one to make the bigger one um.. Well.. those guys didn't unlock any extra powers.. but still...
Maybe I'm thinking too much into this..
Teknoguyver - July 29, 2004 06:14 PM (GMT)
grimlock was not slow. it's just how he was made. every transformer has a different way of thinking and speaking.
you wouldn't call a guy with a speach disorder slow just because he can't talk like a normal person.
besides that whole "shoot first, ask questions later" thing was kinda of the dinobot motto. and boy did it get them into hot water more times then i can count.
BloodStorm - July 29, 2004 07:29 PM (GMT)
Accually, Grimlock WAS a little slow in the head, Tekno.. but like you said.. he didn't need to be smart to be good at what he did.. and that was kicking ass!
"Me grimlock no need stradagy, Me Grimlock kick ass!"
Astroguyver - July 30, 2004 01:04 AM (GMT)
Grimlock was cool, but when he got super intellegence and made computron that was pretty cool.
