Title: Gay Pride Song
Description: my first song ever!

Lazarus - September 3, 2005 04:25 AM (GMT)
I wrote this for a contest all about the Need for Gay Rights. It originally was gonna be a poem, but I liked it better as a song.

What Matters Most

Verse 1
(medium tempo rap)
Let me tell you a story about some people I know
Some teens in a world with no place to go
They’re out in the streets with no family to hug
‘Cuz they don’t follow rules about who they should love.

Eric grew up with a fairly normal life.
And it was drilled in his head, he was meant to have a wife.
When he discovered the truth about what he was born to be
He ran away so his parents wouldn’t see.

Where he sought acceptance he found nothing but trouble.
And when he never found it, his sadness only but doubled.
When he came back home he found out he was right
His family all disowned him over something so trite.

Chorus
Tell me what kinda world you want our future to be.
Is it one where what matters most is our family?
Well let me tell you this, that ain’t gonna be so,
Unless we respect all the people we know.

Verse 2
Let me tell you a story about some people I know
Some teens in a world with no place to go
They’re out in the streets with no family to hug
‘Cuz they don’t follow rules about who they should love.

Lola’s a girl with which you can probably relate.
She’s the one in high school no one wanted to date.
She was always the friend, but she thought it a sign
When she finally got the courage, all the boys would decline.

She went off to college never knowing of love.
But then she found someone she couldn’t take her eyes off of.
Now Lola and Cindy are happily engaged,
That is until she found her mother was completely enraged.

They’re still together now, but Lola feels she made a blunder.
The way she sees it she traded one love for another.
Her mother won’t talk to her now, and didn’t go to the wedding.
So Lola let all thoughts of her mother, just keep on shedding.

Tell me what kinda world you want our future to be.
Is it one where what matters most is our family?
Well let me tell you this, that ain’t gonna be so,
Unless we respect all the people we know

Let me tell you a story about some people I know,
Some teens in a world with no place to go.
They’re out in the streets with no family to hug,
‘Cuz they don’t follow rules about who they should love.

(optional ending)

Eric never got over his parents ignoring his life.
While he was still in school, he killed himself with a knife.
But Lola, she was lucky she found someone who cared.
Someone she knew, the rest of her life she would share.

All his pain and suffering could have been avoided you know.
All he really needed was a place to call home.
Somewhere with a family who loved and adored
Instead of being abandoned and completely abhorred.

Tell me what kinda world you want our future to be.
Is it one where what matters most is our family?
Well let me tell you this, that ain’t gonna be so,
Unless we respect all the people we know.

Let me know what you think :D
