Title: Gene Splicing
Kaiser Dragoon - September 2, 2005 04:50 AM (GMT)
This is sort of a half and half bit. We should, emphasis on should, know about all these wonderful marvels these lovely white jacketed scientists have been making in regards to gene splicing and all that. My question is sort of one out of curiosity as a hypothetical what if deal.
Say you were offered the ability to have up to five non human genes/traits of other animals thrown into your genetic cocktail, what would you choose, or would you abstain from tampering with your genes at all?

Cockroach: speed and durability
Hyena: Super disgestion and biting
spitting cobra: venom
Rhinocerous beatle: Streingth (when it comes to size ratio this is actually the strongest)
Lazarus - September 21, 2005 11:49 PM (GMT)
As much as I like the aspect of all the intriguing powers, I would probably stick with what I've got. Though, since it's hypothetical, what's the harm in listing potentials anyway ^^.
A tick - huge jumping abilities
Mocking bird - the ability to perfectly mimic any noise (can be useful in prank calling^^)
Sea horse - ability to camoflauge into surrounding area AND underwater breathing
Water bug - ability to 'walk on water' so to speak
Black Widow - deadly bite (venom)
Mr Zektoll - September 22, 2005 12:24 AM (GMT)
Lazarus, ticks don't jump, your thinking of fleas, although if you did choose a tick youd be able to withstand an amazing amount of pressure, one time one got on me and I tried to squish it between my fingers and it survived unharmed even after being completeyl flattened. Also with the sea horse camoflage, that would only work in the sort of places sea horses live in the coral reefs that is if your thinking of the sort of sea horse I am, it wouldnt be much use elsewhere.
Kaiser Dragoon - September 22, 2005 12:33 AM (GMT)
Yeah, maybe being a cameleon would be better suited for your needs. I could see you as a sea horse though, being all male but feminine at the same time B)

| Water bug - ability to 'walk on water' so to speak |
Sorry Laz, but the walk on water effect is only plausible for the water bug because it's so small. Because it's so small and light it doesn't break the waters surface tension which is what gives it it's walk on water ability, although to be precise it's more like skating
Mr Zektoll - September 22, 2005 06:59 PM (GMT)
Maybe Lazarus could get the trait of being really small, but I think that'd be kind of counter productive since someone could just step on him. Also the way human lungs are structured insect sized humans wouldnt be able to breath well so that would need to be fixed too.Yeah humans arent meant to be that small biologically, so lazarus would probably need to be fully changed into an insect which is pretty much impossible by our worlds physical laws. So yeah you probably dont want to be a water bug.
BloodStorm - September 23, 2005 02:46 PM (GMT)
Really, the bug doesn't skate just BECUASE it's small.. the positioning of the feet and thier unique structure of the waterbug are the main factors.. if size was the only factor then pebbles as small and light as the bug would float too, and we know that's not true.
Of course, even with that in mind, it still wouldn't work becuase that formation needs atleast four legs minimum to work on the water..
Lazarus - September 25, 2005 05:07 AM (GMT)
Geesh, why's my idea the only one getting shot at? I figured given a large enough displacement of my weight and it would work, granted, looking back that would require a HUGE ass foot. And as for the tick thing, I was waffling back and forth between the tick for ability to live purely off of blood and flea for the jumping ability. I originally chose tick, then changed my mind and went to erase it and replace it with flea, I must not have been thinking very clearly because as you can see, I merely combined the two by mistake.

I know it’s been a while since a post here but meh I never got to post in it due to laziness so I’m posting now.
- Shark: teeth and all senses but sight. (shark senses are some of the most powerful, with it’s senses I could ‘feel’ a 3d image of something nearly 3 feet away. Not to mention being able to taste stuff far away and smell stuff a few city blocks away) swimming and gills (I’m still keeping my lungs though.)
- Starfish- Regeneration (yeah I know it’s been used already)
- Myrmecia(bulldog ant, jack-jumpers): Eyesight (they are 2 cm creatures that can follow a target a full meter away, come on who wouldn’t want that eyesight)
- Spitting cobra: Hood, venom, and spitting/spraying of venom
- Eagle: wings, talons/claws, honeycombed bones, and flight muscles
- flea: jumping (yes I want flight and flea level jumping.)
- octopus: Camouflage and suction cups (placed in hands and feet)
