Good luck in getting it fixed, GB! That sounds like how my computer was before I got Cable. I thought it was dying!
What is wrong with it, btw?

*Forges and fuses a titanium hat to his head so Kaiser will break that fist next time.* :666: I'm evil aren't I?
GB will probably answer this next time he's at a computer. Until then, I'll be waiting for his answer.

Well, the problem is that when ever I turn it on, there's a black screen that has all these different modes on it and every time we try one , it looks like it's working but then it justs restarts. AND some of the modes just make it freeze up. Got any ideas whats wrong?

Well, GB, me being the techie I am, may be able to help you a bit. While I have no idea what It could be. These people might.
http://www.broadbandreports.com/forum/hwhelp Post your question in that forum and see if they can help you. I futher urge you to stick around after you fix your problem to see what other useful tidbits you can pick up.
The only things I could help you with directly is ask the standard questions: Do you have up to date anti virus software that has the most current definitions for the latest threats? (The restart thing to me sounds like the Sasser worm that was going around, but if you have the lastest AV protection, you should be protected from it) Another culprit for your problem might be some kind of Spyware.
But that's another story. Post your question in the forum and see what they say. Then come back here and tell me when and under what name you posted under. I'd like to follow it.

yeah it sounds like you have a virus, try starting in safe mode and see what happens.

I've tried safety mode. It don't do a dang thing. Thanks for the advice though Mr.Z.
As for the virus, that seems to be very likely. Just before it went down, the firewall was gone, the program, everything. How do I fix it?

I hope you're not too attached to the contents of your hard drive GB,since from all you've said the best option is a full format

One thing you might try doing is linking it up as a slave drive on another computer and scanning your drive using the computers master drive. You might even be able to save some of your info that way. but make sure the computers antivirus is up to date.
