Title: X-Box games
Description: need help here
WarriorZoalord - December 26, 2004 11:46 AM (GMT)
Alright, now then, I just got a box for christmas, can any of you suggest good non-sports games, (racing, skating, snowboarding, ect.) that are reasonably cheap that I could start my pretty much non-existant game collection with? and I mean besides all the majorly popular ones, like halo, I know about them already and am thinking about 'em, i mean the good games that were under rated and turned out better than everyone thought.
XENON I know you can help me here, working at a gaming store :P
Riven - December 26, 2004 01:37 PM (GMT)
Tenchu 4 comes to mind
Dino Crisis 3
Prince of Persia Sands of Time (its on Xbox right?)
Prince of Persia Warrior Within
other then that, I don't really know, I'm not a fan of Xbox
WarriorZoalord - December 26, 2004 02:09 PM (GMT)
Warrior within is new riv, I wouldn't call it reasonably cheap yet :P
BloodStorm - December 26, 2004 04:12 PM (GMT)
Personally, I find that the x-box works best with Mecha games... So try picking up a copy of MechAssault or Phantom Crash, two of the best Mecha games I've ever played outside of the ArmoredCore series.
I'ld also recomment Steel Battalion.. but you said you wanted cheep, and due to the packaging of the game's controller in with the game, I doubt it'll every drop into the "cheep" catagory.
One last thing I have to say about the X-Box is that it's lacking a decent rpg library. Sure there are a couple decent rpgs here and there (Phantasy Star Online being the only one that comes to mind at the moment), but your better off getting your rpg fix on the ps2 or Gamecube..

Haven't you ever heard of after Christmas sales?
WarriorZoalord - December 27, 2004 06:07 AM (GMT)
thats if i could find it, every place i went was sold out of ALL the good games, anyway if i would have found it it would have only been about maybe 6 bucks off :P So I got Panzer Dragoon Orta, and Hunter: The Reckoning.
Though I got one question abotu steel battalion for blood over there. why the heck do you need a controller with like 100 or so functions on it...... anyway i dont think i have room in my house for that thing, isnt it like 3-5 feet wide or something like htat? or is that just the REALLY special controller?

Steel Battalion was designed to try and capture the feel of a full mech simulator in the comfort of your own home.. so thats why the controller has so much stuff on it... to replicate all the knobs and gizmos you'ld find in a real mecha cockpit.
They also package the controller with the game, as it's impossable to play WITHOUT it.. And to this date it's the only game that uses it, although I've heard a couple other companaies attempted to obtian permission from the designers of the perephrial to make use of it in other games.. so far I don't know if anything's gone through yet, or something..
To be honest though, I don't even have the game yet, as my X-box is sort of dead at the moment, and I havn't gotten around to swapping it in for one that works.. so I can't tell you out of experiance how well it plays..
WarriorZoalord - December 30, 2004 06:06 AM (GMT)
Though I heard they are making a steal battalion 2 or somehting like that, so thwen there would be a whopping 2 games it can use.
Sparky - December 30, 2004 09:38 PM (GMT)
I don't have an X-box myself but I have to say I think that controller will have a couple of other games compatiable with it, they may have wanted to make an impressive mech simulator but they aren't stupid so weather or not they make a Steel battlion 2 they're going to make other games eventually, no-one makes a control system like that just for one game..........
Anyway Tenchu four as you put it is just a re-do of Tenchu Wrath of heaven for the ps2, so if you have the first 2 ps1 games then it will be worth picking it up.
On that note I heard Ninja Gaidan (sp) for the X-box is a good buy and it should be within reasonable price since it came out a while ago.
WarriorZoalord - December 31, 2004 06:13 AM (GMT)
I just got Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind and Star Wars KoTor, and still got some credit left at the store, so i can put it towards halo when they get it back in.
Oh yeah, i forgot to mention that Morrowind is the game of the year edition, and they added some stuff to it, like two built in expansions, so you can do even morestuff, 100+ hours, and with 200 difficulty settings, 10 races, 21 classes not including the fact you can customize your own, means it has a way to play through for just about everyone. oh, and you can even become a werewolf during the game.

Morrowind is an awesome game.. I havn't played the X-box version.. but I've got the pc version, it's pretty fun to fire up and slap critters around for awhile..
For an interesting trick, when you get your hands on a soulgem capable of having a "perminant" effect, put it in your sheild and bind a summon spell to the gem.. Instant perminant summon! If your "pet" dies.. simply un-equip the sheild and re-equip it.. and it'll be back..
Unfortunatly... SoulGems capable of doing this trick are pretty hard to find, and are generally highly expensive to boot... but it can be worth it in the long run, especially if you use a high level summon spell.. The extra target will help out in more situations than you can count.

This pretty much sums up what I think about Xbox :beers:

WarriorZoalord - January 1, 2005 03:22 AM (GMT)
Riv, ummm, the X-Box aint that bad :P. and Blood, as for the summon thing, you just gotta remember not to do it in towns, otherwise the guards will attempt to kick your butt, heh. it is a cool game, but the only problem i have with it is the leveling system.... i been playing for like 6 hours and im still friggin level 1.
BloodStorm - January 1, 2005 03:35 AM (GMT)
Riven.. That's direct linking to a file that's not yours, Not only does that use extra bandwidth for the person who owns the image, it can get us in legal trouble if you do it too much.. If you need to link to something like that, just link to it and don't post it in full like that.
As for the sommon thing, Warrior.. I'm not sure if it works the same on the X-box.. but aslong as you don't make any hostile moves towards the gaurds, they shouldn't attack you even if you have a summoned buddie in tow.
As for leveling.. Well, that's based off your skills. Each time you increase one of your skills to the next level, it adds so much to your EXP bar. You need 10 points to gain a new level, and various skills add various amounts of points.
Your Class's primary skills will add a full point, Secondary skills a half point, and minor skills give a 10th of a point... Yeah, it took me a month of realtime to figure that out, so don't feel bad if you missed it too.
WarriorZoalord - January 1, 2005 03:41 AM (GMT)
oh no, i knew that, but im just saying its taking me forever to get the 10 points, im like at 9 right now, and outta money for a trainer.... but two of my major skills are athletics and acrobatics so i just run jump wherever I go to level them up faster. and blood, the summon thing i was talking about what when you SUMMON one while in town, if you drag it in from out of town, i dont think they care.
Sparky - January 1, 2005 05:57 AM (GMT)
Riven try and be a bit more respectful of other consoles, this IS the gaming area so while you can say what your favourite console is you shouldn't be saying what systems you take to be crap, someone could take offence to that if they have the said console in question. I know I would...........
WarriorZoalord - January 1, 2005 06:00 AM (GMT)
well, i can say one thing, my X-box is more reliable than my PS2 right now.... it dosen't seem to want to read the discs right away, i think i broke the laser somehow.
Hey blood, i finally got my morrowind guy to level 2, and now im just roaming the country trying to find sidequests and stuff to better my skills and equipment.
Say, has anyone ever hear of the game for X-Box called Stake, i saw it in the gameshop when i got these games, but couldn't figure out wether it would be worth it or not.

Sorry, but I'll be more respectful of the Xbox (because I dont have a problem with any other consol but the Xbox) when its earns that respect, so far there's nothing about it that makes me even neutral about it, I'm sorry, but thats just how I feel about it.
WarriorZoalord - January 1, 2005 11:20 AM (GMT)
I played my first X-Box a year before I finally bought one, I don't see what's wrong with it. Question, was the one you'r friend had/has one of the first batches released in your area? cause generally the first one's out have all kinds of messed up things they dont catch in testing, heck, the first Ps2's had a lotta problems, i should know, mine was one of the first Ps2's ever released in the US, y'know the initial mad rush to get one and all that.

I wouldn't have the faintest idea when he got it, he's more a friend of a friend, I don't reallylike socializing with him if I can handle it because he's moron, I've just found myself at his place with no easy way to get home.
But still, I have no idea what it is about the Xbox but just the mere sight of it makes want to take a sledge hammer. It doesn't impress me like it does other people, maybe its the way Microsoft made it. They rushed to the finish line to compete with Nintendo and Sony without really thinking about a convient design for it, they've made these big clunky controllers, and the fact that you have to save your games into the machine itself and hope the hard drive doesn't break down on yah or hope someone doesn't drop it and wreck the hard drive turns me off. Actually the hard drive thing turns me off more then anything else about it. At least Nintendo and Sony have took their customers into account and made memory cards in the event that the consol might get wrecked, where with the Xbox if the hard drive fucks up on you, you lose your save data and then you have to wait for a replacement and then you have to start from the beginning again, I mean come on! What num nuts at Microsoft thought that shit up!! The guy that brings them coffee would have been smarter then that guy that thought that stupid shit up.
As for the overall general design of the consol itself, no consol has ever been that heavy, at least none that I remember, and I've played all of them at one point of another except the virtual boy system.
I hope that Microsoft fire the people that designed most of the aspects of the Xbox, and hire a fresh new design team, that will actually take the time and improve the faults of the first one when they make the Xbox 2! I think the Xbox had potential that the designers wouldn't or couldn't even consider when they put the stupid thing together. If they can actually produce something worth paying an absurd amount of money for, then I might consider buying it, but right now I wouldn't buy an Xbox to save my life.
I'm sorry if my opinion annoys or even pisses some of you off, but I was raised to speak my mind and thats what I'm going to do, regardless of what people think of me.
WarriorZoalord - January 1, 2005 01:40 PM (GMT)
well riv, if you would have explained why you didnt like the X-Box instead of how you..... put it the first time, you probably wouldnt have gotten yelled at.
as for the hard drive thing, it aint just the x-box you gotta worry about, by comps hard drive croaked on me 2 weeks ago, plus microsoft did think up of that contingency, which is why the released the memory unit, so you could back-up your games incase of such an accident.
I think the fact that its so hevy makes it more durable then most systems, infact in a test of durability it surived longer than the ps2, but it had failed the final test, which the cube passed, barely..... and the test was done several times with the same results, the X-box always coming ahead of the ps2, but behind the cube, personally, i believe the x-box 2 will solve those problems as i think they started developing this shortly after they finished the first one. heck, the Xbox2 got announced before the official ps3 announcement.
Riven - January 1, 2005 01:50 PM (GMT)
Well like I said, I hope the Xbox two has overcome the problems of the 1st and if they do, I might just buy one, especially if its reverse compatible.
And I don't really care about getting yelled at to be honest, I'm use to it :beers:
Sparky - January 2, 2005 03:12 AM (GMT)
*Stands on WZ pushing him into the ground* why is it when i try and be serious someone asumes I'm becoming overbearing and shouting?

Gah *stands on Riven too for assuming the same thing*
Seriously though, Riven I get the fact thats your opinion and I ain't trying to be a pain in the ass, I'm just saying for the sake of peace as this is the gaming zone and everyone with a console on the site will be here try and not go around saying they use a duff console. Someone could and probaly will start to take offence, I mean if someone said the ps2 you were using sucked balls you wouldn't like that very much would you

WarriorZoalord - January 2, 2005 06:08 AM (GMT)
oh riv, remember that crack you made about taking a sledgehammer to an x-box..... you could probably hit the x-box with a sledgehammer a couple times and it would still work..... that was one of the durability tests that i was talking about before, x-box passed that one with flying colors. :P
Riven - January 2, 2005 06:10 AM (GMT)

Two reasons for that Warrior
1, the sledge hammer was probably weaker then hell
or
2, the person welding it couldn't use a Sledge hammer to its full potential
WarriorZoalord - January 2, 2005 06:34 AM (GMT)
i said a whack or two, I believe inside the outer casing is a layer of metal, so i think it would take a couple a few whacks to do serious damage.... and it was a pretty big sledgehammer they used, the test was shown on G4Techtv.... and UI'm not sith, pay attentiojn to the names :P

Just because its a big sledge hammer, does not mean it will do more damage
IF you're willing to give me your Xbox to prove that I can destroy an Xbox with a single hit, I'd be more then happy to demonstrate, we can find some old Sega Saturns and DreamCasts and smash them up too [666] :war: :bite:

i ment why dont i just send the money, it would probably be cheaper then sending you a system, hehehe, of course even if i had the money i probably wouldnt, oud probably go by anime or something. i know you wouldnt spend it on an x-box to test the sledgehammer vs. box theory.

At least I'd get more use out of more anime ^^
