Title: Dream I had that would make a perfect rpg
BloodStorm - September 16, 2004 07:12 PM (GMT)
Ok, I had a dream last night.. normally I'ld spare you the details of my dreams, as they are a place demons fear to tread. But this one was pretty cool.
In less than 100 years from today, the world as we know it will end due do nuclear war, or some other huge disaster... so the game world will be one of those post apocolyptic things.. with a twist..
Its been long enough that the radiation in most parts of the world is pretty much livable.. with no long term effects worse than a mild sunburn. The world is accually recovered pretty well, and humanity with it. Humanity, finally learned the error of it's ways (as a whole.. although some bad seeds will ALWAYS fuck things up) and more or less lives at peace with itself. Technology is pretty much along the lines of the Midieval eral.. with swords and arrows being the primary weapons. Humanity has evolved another natural weapon.. a limited telipathic power that lets some people "mind bond" with animals and form a sort of mental partnership. This not only gives human intelligance to the animal, but it gives the human partner benafits of the animal's enhanced sences. This comes with a risk though. If the animal partner dies, the human partner looses all benafits, and most people can never manage to form another mindbond becuase of the mental trauma involved, allthough some strong willed individuals have managed to form a second bond.. and one person has accually bonded with three differant animals during his lifetime..
Most people live in large villages, both for comfort, and for protection from the wild, as some creatures thought long dead or even thought to have never really existed at all.. have shown up in odd places. Dinosaurs have been confermed, and dragon sightings are numerious, but no definable proof exists. The dragons might just be winged dinosaurs that happen to like the taste of human flesh, and are only called "Dragons" out of ignorance. No one really knows for sure.
However.. a new manace has been lurking in the shadows for years, unknown to humanity. However, In order to keep suspence alive, I'm not going to reveal to you quite what they are untill sometime after the story starts..
Ok, enough about the story.. now onto the rules.
1. ALL characters start out without a mind-bonded animal. Infact, I might not let everyone have the ability to mindbond in the first place, or maybe everyone can.. the exact processes behind mind bonding is unknown to most. Sometimes it just happens.. other times a concentrated effort must be made to link with the animal.. it really varies from person to person.
2. ALL characters are human. This means no guyvers, androids, cyborgs, half demons, or anything of the like. Also, no mutants.. I don't want anyone to have extra arms or be able to control the weather.. JUST A NORMAL HUMAN. Anyone who tries to play a non human character (unless they acheive a mindbond, and thus get the ability to play an animal as well) will find thier heads crushed in by a flowerpot fallen from space. For some reason, millions of flowerpots, compleat with perfectly healthy plants, (dispite lack of anything that makes life livable), exist in orbit just for the reason of crushing heads. Go figure.
3,a
This is the big one. I will controll most of the major events, and you will only be allowed to tell me how your character reacts to whats happening. This is to prevent ego battles where both players refuse to loose. Also.. each person will be given the oppertunity to act, or react ONCE during each turn..
Note, you just tell me what you wish to do, say, or anything like that, and I'll make it happen. Anyone using thier turn as if what they're writing is happening as they write it will find themselfs flowerpot'ed. This is to further emulate a tabletop rpg where the players are actors, but the gm is the one who makes everything work.
3.b "Character Development periods"
Note: There will be times when I will allow rule 3.a to be ignored.. especially during character building times, or when theres nothing at hand that would advance the plot. This, however, doesn't mean that the players can do something like "all of the sudden, a/an <insert animal here> emerges nearby and attacks, or does something" IF such an event occours, I'll handle it. Character Development times are mainly for dialog and light actions suggesing mannerisms and such.
This is ok: Player1 sighs and shakes his head, wondering why he has to put up with player3, who's being a total dickhead. "Just shut up, ok?"
This is NOT ok: Player3 takes offence and and picks up a treebranch and prepares to club player one, when suddenly a snake lunges from the branch and sinks it's fangs into player1's face.
3.c
Sometimes I'll have a small event during character development time. These events will be handled the same as bigger events, but will be more light hearted, and oftain will lead to good things happening to one of the characters. But keep in mind, the world IS still very dangerious.. so bad things could happen too.
3.d
If the assigned character building times turn into combat, or plotwork, then Rule 3.a will be enforced in it's entirty.
4. If you are flowerpotted for any reason, your out of the game. No asking to come back.
5. I reserve the right to flowepot you for any reason not mentioned allready if you are playing in a fasion I deemdisruptive to the flow of gameplay.
6. I resrve the right to flowerpot you for any reason I feel like, at any time.
7. All players WILL be given full dental insurance. Your health is important to us.
Ok.. If I havn't scared you off, tell me what you think. The rules are set in stone, so if you don't like them, don't play. But I can tell you that this will be an epic unlike anything seen before, except for the chronos rpg, and perhaps the original gathering. So if you don't want to play becuase of some tiny rules, then your going to miss out on the story of the century. I garentee that this will be an enjoyable experiance for all.
I'm open to questions now.. and I'll have the opening post up in a day or so.

Looks like fun to me B)
So do we have different traits and appearances from the animals we are bound to?
Also, are we able to become like werewolves and such, like say we were bound to a grizzly bear, could we become a werebear or a werefox or weredragon??

Nope, you just get increased sences.. No other physical attributes..
and of course you can play a were, as long as it's 100% human with no form of enhancements, up to and including, but not limited to... vampirsm, lychanthropy, cybernetics, alien hybrids, or talkshow hosts..

I think I might just be a spectator to this RPG just to see how it goes first.
I'd rather get back into BattleCube :bang:

Hey I like the sound of this, count me in. However I do have a problem with something:
6. I reserve the right to flowerpot you for any reason I feel like, at any time.
A bit biased wouldn't you say, I mean what if you went on a mental instability decrease (Well a really big one as you seem to have them alot) and decided to Flowerpot someone for no good reason ;)

Accually, rules five, six, and seven are spoofs of some employment manuals I've read. The really bad ones seems to be broken down into three halves...
One half focuses on how vital the employee is to the company, and how much the company will do for the employee in times of need.
Another half focuses on how they can and will fire you for any reason, or no reason at all..
and the THIRD half (mathematicly impossable, I know) focuses on how impossable it is to leave the company on your own terms..
EDIT: Due to timing issues ( Kaiser working his ass off to get the gathering up today) I'll be pushing back the release date of this idea for a couple days. Afterall.. Two rpg's starting at the exact same time will just confuse people.
