I don't really have a name for it yet but I'd like to do some brainstorming with you guys. (wonders why) Any who. The basic concept is a world where monsters, demons, and the like exist in mass numbers and threaten to over run human kind. The World is a mix of fantasy and technology. So phones, guns, and computers exist side by side with magic bows and arrows and swordplay. In this world their are several ways for humans to fight against these monsters all have a price though.
The most common way is for humans to join the hunters league a group of humans who train to hunt monsters. (modern day rangers) and have the tech to pass out as well. They have connections to weapon suppliers armorers and the like.
The next way is to go in for argumentation using a mix of magic and science humans can be given the same abilites as or abilites on par with the monsters they so despise.
One of the most feared or misunderstood ways though is the forsaking of ones name. By fore swearing ones name and indeed their current life they gain amazing powers which let them fight monsters face to face without dangerous argumentation or expensive tech. But by fore swearing ones name they forsake the life they used to live no longer does their name apply to them. No one remembers them, it's like they never existed like they didn't start living till they gave their names. So they call them selves the Newborn.
Characters could be Human, Newborn, Augmented, Half-(whatever monster), or A monster (gnoll, Demon, or whatever our twisted minds can come up with) with his or her own agenda or who seeks to help humans.
Let me know what you think and any ideas for world building. And yes DnD and Exalted did influence my ideas a bit.
working on the setting and background information currently.
I've been working on this a bit heres what I have still can't think of a title though.
World:
The world is divided into several countries divided by ecological differences.
Desert: the nation of Nibham is the strongest military power in the desert country. Once a group of nomads but they settled down and built up a rather large settlement that became something of a city. The main city is really just a huge collection of cloth of animal hide tents all clustered around the largest oasis in the desert. Their military consists of Horse mounted Calvary and a lot of hidden trips such as, quicksand, large amounts of mines, or just leading the enemy army into a desert worm nest. Besides Nibham the desert consists of some small part time settlements and desert nomads. Monsters: Desert worms (think dune), Sand dragons, Giant scorpions, Lizard folk, And the few summoned Demons. To the north the sands give way to grassy plains.
Plains: Exactly what it sounds like grassy plains with patches of trees and plenty of villages and cities. The kingdom of Gun-brook is currently the strongest power in this parts. Gun-brook posses the best smithies and gun makers in the world. It also boasts the highest number of monster blooded. This may have to do with the high number of treaties it’s “king” has with the monster tribes. The main city is protected on all sides by a 50ft wall of stone, steel, and garuded at all times by watchmen armed with rifles and large crossbows. The city itself is a mix of modern day buildings, and dark ages style houses. Normally the poor live in the Dark age houses.
To the east lies the great forest of shadow.
Forest of shadow: No known kingdoms or nations exist in the forest. Densely packed mix of trees. The further in one goes the larger and more primordial the forest gets. The monster tribes that live here fear the forest spirits Large mangy dogs made of wood, moss and vine. The monster tribes are mainly demon snakes, and forest griffin who nest in the highest branches. As well as a plethora of oddly shaped plant men. In the center of the forest held in the air in a clearing is a huge orb of webbing attached to the nearby trees by long branches of wood and web. It is said that in that orb lies the children of an ancient spider demon. The orb has been there since anyone can remember. To the south of the forest lies the great ocean.
Ocean: Only on atolls and the sparse islands can any live other then fish and sea monsters exist. A few tribes banded together and are currently consolidating their power. They’ve called their fledgling nation The confederation. Obviously their army consists of primarily navy. They paid heed to the ocean spirits and give offerings to the sea so that their fishing boats won’t be attacked. Monsters: Leviathans, sea dragons, Fish men, giant sharks, etc..etc..
Organizations:
Hunters league: A group of humans who exterminate monsters for profit. They have a lot in common with Merc’s. Anyone joining is given weapons and money to pay for expenses.
(Any nation) Army: Pretty self explanatory. The standing army of the nations. Either Calvary, artillery, foot solider, etc..
The collective: A group formed by newborns. It reaches out and attempts to teach the newborns how to control their powers.
Character types:
Human: Yeah I don’t think this needs to be explained.
Monster: Pick any kind of monster, unless it’s way out their, you don’t have to run it by me. If it’s a little crazy please ask first. I mean in terms of power not looks.
Half-breed: You are part monster part human. Or the blend of any two monster species.
Newborn: You surrendered your name to an unknown power and in return received amazing abilities. Able to heal even the most grievous of wounds given time. Able to surpass human limitations. Given powers that rival those of the most legendary of monsters.
At character creation you pick two powers. Use your imagination but don’t go overboard every power has it’s limits. It’s not how strong it is it’s how they use it. The newborn start with two powers and are slightly above human standards. As they get more experienced they become stronger faster they gain more powers and their old ones grow. Generally after every hundred or so monsters they kill they grow in power. Either buffing up their old powers or gaining a new one. Some also wield magic weapons.
Some monster types
Undead: These come in a variety of shapes and sizes to the common zombie the hulking amagalm of reanamited flesh and bone. The most feared are deathknights the undead equal to Newborns.
Trolls, Goblions, orcs: What more need be said? Trolls are hulking constantly healing swamp monsters. Goblions are little pests and Orcs...well we all know about them.
Demons: As various and unquie as can be. Balors, Bebliths. Born from the cosmic forces of Evil and chaos. Ruled by the ancient Deamons. They play with humans as pawns of their everlasting game of chess against eachother.
Infernals: Humans who where fooled by the Deamons into selling their names they are as strong as the Newborn but better trained and equipped.
This is it for now if anyone has any comments suggestion’s feel free
